Alone in the Dark PS3 "undergoing improvements"

Atari have announced that Alone in the Dark for PS3 will be undergoing improvements, rather than just being a direct port of the Xbox 360 version.

a lot of potential and I am happy to hear the PS3 version will probably be superior in terms of quality. I do hope that they solve the control problems and that(so as not to screw people who already bought the game)they release a patch for the 360 version too.

I guess this is one advantage when the game comes to a system last. It wasn't well received on the other platforms. So by all means take the time to work out the clumsy execution of controls. If it improves I will buy it.

I want to agree with you and also hoping for the same thing, I'm afraid it ain't going to happen! how much more can they improve for something that already have a version in the market? we can't aspect it to be that different from the 360 version! If you played the 360 version, that'll be exactly what the PS3 version will look like! but I hope that they will at least make the damn controls WORKS!! I can't see a surge in sales for PS3 but if they implement Trophies, I bet a lot more will pick it up for the sake of that!

i'm glad to hear this.

i hope they took the reviewers' opinions on what was bad and fixed it a bit. i know it can't be totally remade, but hopefully they fix some of the stuff.

i'm still iffy on whether or not this a buy or rent. most likely a rent since there's just tons of games coming after this month. way too many.

I wouldn't say gimped the other version, but I would expect him to push the PS3 somewhat. And just if he opens up channels to Sony for devs, which they might not have otherwise. He was head of SW for the PS3, so he might have some insights here and there.

There is no way that happened. It would make no sense for Harrison to do that. I mean how would he even accomplish it? Go to the developers and tell them they should gimp the other version, which will hurt sales, just so the PS3 version can look better in comparison?

And I'm pretty sure Harrison came in too late to really effect the game in any way (at least for the PC/xbox versions). His connections may help the PS3 version, but he had no reason to hurt the other versions. It's not like he's an undercover agent for Sony.

Would you jeopardize your position in a new company just because you worked at a different company before? No.

Hopefully it wont be as bad as the 360 version.The game had some potential but had some of the worst controls that i have ever seen in a survivor horror game.

I am happy that it would be improved because it would suck to actually wait a few extra months only to still have those crappy controls.No gamer deserves that.

The game sold over a million and is going to allow Atari to post a profit this year, they were in the red for the longest time, if they took a "turd" as you say, sold over a million turds and manage to make a profit they must be miracle workers.

Oh and btw Eden is developing the game, Atari is publishing.

its funny, the game is really cinematic, high production values, and leaves you wanting to play more, however the controls completely ruin it for the game, if only they added the ability to customise the controls it wouldnt be so bad..

Phil Harrison no doubt has a hand in this. I think he went to Atari for the soul purpose of strenghtening their ties with Sony, cause Noland hates Sony with a passion when you here him talk.

Ah come on. That's the real world. Even when he left he must have big ties back into Sonyland. I would expect a new employer wanting to use his contacts. That's just how business works. And even if he left Sony with some reason, I doubt he at that level takes this personal (given what either side is paying him).

I rented this game and really wanted to like it but the controls are just awful,so returned it the next day.But if they can give you guys the option to customize the controls, then it would be a much better experience.

The game has so many cool features that you would be asking questions like "why don't other games do this".

Well we will just have to wait and see on what approach they would use in improving the controls.

EDIT:In first person mode, you aim with the right analog stick and they still expect you to use that same right hand to pull the right triggers to shoot while aiming.Last time i checked, every FPS uses the left analog stick to aim.Better to play in 3rd person, but then it becomes really slow.

I only played the PS2 version, but it was a really good game. At least I thought it was. I also didn't have any problems with the controls, either.

And if the PS3 version is going to be even better than the PS2 version then It should be awesome! :D

But if you're going to buy it, wait for it to come down in price. It's just too damn short to be worth $60!

Now $40 on the PS2 might be okay. Let me just put it this way: If you rent it and stay at it, you'll probably beat it before you have to take it back.

Still an awesome game, though. :)

Flamethrowers are awesome, but I hope they don't use that gimmick as a crutch.

Yeah, the controls are kinda clunky but I enjoyed the game for the most part. My biggest problem was the over use of fire and combining items. They also could have reduced the evil weeds to half.

It comes just to show you that people should care less about release dates and more about the quality of the final product and if it had meet your standards... Not that this game TOTALLY sucks, but it feels more than unfinished, more than something you can patch later...

Not looking specially on the PS3 delay, but seriously, this game should not have come out on any platform. Now, while they'll work on PS3 stability, graphics and such, they'll also have time to figure out how to make the controls work and the PS3 version can indeed be much better than the 360 and Wii ones (but at the price of the time we'd wait).

Said that, even if get much better, I should say it'll probably not be enough. If you already played through it, you have that feel of not just an unfinished game (like many others have had this gen, thanks to more money hungry and overall, more money/time demanding developments), but a bad game, like some generic licensed game, aside of it having some really good ideas (but with really bad executions). They'll have to do more than polish the controls, they'll have to re-do it, ans some of other elements of the game too (Sound is specially annoying), if they really want it to be at least a 8+ out of 10 game.

As I said before, they really should have take their time to make it work. Just a example of how import is to test more, even with the game ready they should really test it, just so you can see if it worked like you want it to, if publishers would be a bit more patient, maybe this was the come back to the series I was waiting. Now, even with more time to go, I'm already giving up on it.

i think this is just a marketing ploy, look at some of the other games that came out later on ps3 and ended up worse. i know a lot of devs have got the hang of ps3 but i cant see this game being any better.
