3 Teens Arrested; Say 'Grand Theft Auto' Taught Them About Molotov Cocktails

WSBTV writes: "Fulton County officials said they have arrested three teens and charged them with 57 felony counts in connection with a recent series of car bombings with Molotov cocktails in the city of Milton, north of Atlanta.

The felony charges include arson, criminal damage to property and possession of explosive devices in six vehicle fires between 11 p.m. July 24 and 3 a.m. July 25. Each teen is charged with 19 counts.

Officials said the teens -- ages 15 and 16 -- told authorities they learned "how to do it" from playing the video game 'Grand Theft Auto.'"

Oh yeah GTA is becoming the scape goat for all these little bastards that don't have more than half a brain.

"GTA taught me about assault weapons and shotguns, nevermind the fact of me watching Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone action flicks all throughout my childhood. The videogames are controlling me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

These kids need to get their a**es beaten for being so irresponsible.

4 - GTA taught them how to do it? Really?
Cause last time I played any of the games it just let me use a molotov. Never once did the game "show" me how to make one.

@Aresnic13....you nailed that one on the head. This is the new insanity plea.

12 - Monkey see Monkey do!
Unfortunetely some people get effected by what they see, the whole "it isn't video games" is getting old. YES it isn't the actual cause, but unstable people get ideas and do them...how is that so hard to believe?

Human nature is too replicate what they see and think is COOL, especially younger people....if old, they are either mentally unstable or have some sort of illness.

Thats why they have ratings on gaming, Parent really need to be more strict. Just because it doesn't effect MOST, doesn't mean it doesn't at all.

I dont see how they are liable, its not illegal for a teens to play an M rated game, as long as an adult buys it for them. U guys act like buying M rated games for kids is a crim, its not. So next u guys are gonna say that when some teen makes a school shooting it was the parents falt for letting them get bullied.

14.1 - Parants are responible but not wholly responsible
Parents have the responsibility of raising their children to know the boundaries of our society. If their parents did not teach them these boundaries, we have every right to blame them. Now, if these are two basket cases then we are dealing with a different situation, but as it stands, the kids sound like they are trying to get out of it by said it GTA's fault. Everyone is responsible for their own action and I think its safe to say they knew what they were do was wrong and they need to be held accountable. When it comes to their parents, they also need to be held accountable because, in this country they are responsible until they're kids are 18 years old. We cannot send the message out that it is OK to let your kids go and do what they want as they please. Parents are the disciplinarians and it need to stay that way.

Depending on the child and his or her persona, Parents jobs are to keep an eye on there kids. Rules need to apply, like it or not. These guys aren't even adults yet...and if they've done something similar in the past (less intense) who in the hell is going to keep things at bay or teach them responsibilities? NO ONE!

while yes, it isn't just the parent, like i said, if the kids or kid has a history of some problems, its likely he or her might get idea's, from shows/games or what not. Common sense.

Parents are parents and until there adults, they have the responsibility to watch there kids and punish them if they are out of line, other they will continue the same crap again.

No one argued about school shootings, calm down. and don't ASSUME things.

School shooters obviously mean the kids in serious mental state and most likely suffers from an illness to pull off an act.

In that case early treatment, PARENT taking notice and actions to prevent them from doing anything stupid.

Parents play a role, but so does many other things. OBVIOUSLY a person with such action isn't going to make himself do the right thing now is he?

If GTA didnt exist wat would people blame everything on? Barbie Horse Adventure?

22 - Nervz i agree with u.
I wasent completely saying that parents should be off the hook, I was just saying that even with good parenting kids might still do something crazy. Many times a parent will try to help there kid, but even then the kid will continue to do wrong and I dont think a parent who was doing a good job should be responsible for that.

However I also agree that if parents dont take care and monitor their kid they should get blamed for that.

So guess it all depends on the situation, if the parents should get partiall blame.

23 - Why do people act like
GTA isn't a violent nor criminal game?

Theres no doubt that many underage and teens play the game, is it so hard to believe they tried to duplicate what shown in the game itself?

Just because the NORM is not to do the things, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

We all know how kids love to imitate others.

and ptmidos

Barbie horse adventure isn't a Violent criminal acting title now is it? don't be silly.

GTA is blamed for a reason....guess it! YEEESH!

Yep, your right...but thats why i said PARENTING isn't the only problem and noted that the individual himself might be suffering from some illness, disorder..etc.

But Parent still need to try and if things don't work, get a better influence involved (cops, doctors), otherwise that problem in the individual increases. If his left alone thats EVEN worse.

Point is, YES even with supervision, they can still act bad, but some help is better than NONE.

Yes but if a child is easily influenced or does not see the concept of reality or responsibility for his actions. Should his parents not be keeping a closer eye upon the child?

Most certainly they should be looking at the material these kids were playing and finding anything that is suspect remove it.

This is just another in a long line of excuses for why kids are committing crime. People are making excuses and giving them scape goats at every turn and they will use them every time.

This is funny. Blame a game for teaching them how to make bombs. Maybe they should blame Google and the Web too. I just did a search on how to make a Molotov co-cktail and found all kinds of links. Games aren't doing this. Should we start banning the Internet too? I can learn all kinds of bad things on the Web if I just do a search.

How come this board won't let me type co-cktail?

29 - Ridiculous
This is just ridiculous, they had to play GTA to know how to throw a Molotov Coc*tail, they've lived in a dark room all their lives or what the f***. And in the game you just pick the MC, you're not able to make it. Are just bored kids with a prefect target to blame: GTA, the game that invented violence, carjacking, prostitution and everything wrong in this world, the world was better before GTA, please destroy it (Irony).

Anyways that kind of things always happened, before videogames were gangsta rap, movies, TV. Maybe the videogames are different cause you are are taking a rol instead be an observer like in the movies, TV... But do things in a videogame is too different than do the same things in the real life, the videogame can give you the idea as a movie, a TV show or a friend can aswell, and some kind of persons can try to do that things in real life, but GTA can't teach you how to make a Molotov, or can't teach you how to rob a taxi, I mean if will be that, when that guys gonna throw the Molotov, had tried to press the button at the PAD, because that is the way which the game "teach you".
