Sony to launch fourth version of PS2 by Diwali

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will be launching the fourth version of PlayStation 2 (PS2) by Diwali this year. This will simultaneously be released in the European and Indian markets, said SCE country manager (PlayStation) Atindriya Bose to ET.

The higher-end version promises to be slimmer, sleeker and more suave in its looks. There will be no more external AC adapters, all of which will be in-built and the product price will also be the same as the earlier version (Rs 6,990).

SCE India will also be launching the playstation network for their PlayStation 33 in India, which will allow gamers to download free games and also buy them online. This portal is already available in the US and Europe.

They said that ps2 is still opening new game markets. PSone and ps2 shipped/ships in over 120 countries worldwide. Serious business.

10.1 - Put it this way

Supporting the PS2 is supporting the PS3. Here is why.

1. The PS2 is now a cashcow like the wii for Sony which is offsetting the loss the PS3 is being sold for and keeps the PS3 competitive price wise with competition.

2. The PS2 is still introducing the masses to PS nation and in the long run they will most likely migrate to the PS3 when it hits mass market price which ensures that the PS3 will have long legs and able to support the PS4 when it arrives. This is the exact same scenario happened with the PS1 and PS2 when the PS2 started. Remeber those really small size PS1?.

lol i got my ps2 in 2002 and i dropped the bugger so many times and the only thing that was ever wrong with it was the disc tray so i got lucky with that one,my friend went thru 3 ps2's but then again he is a messy dude. i handed my then recently modified ps2 down to my little cousin when i got my ps3 in dec 2006 and to this day it still work like new.

Thats great to know, i know a lot of my friends in India are waiting for this really badly. I just wish Sony India and other console makers would just advertise it more widely in India, i mean if you look at the people who have newer consoles in India, its mostly toward the north. What I'm saying is advertise it in Kerala and other states too, that way you can get more users out of India. Geez i remember when i used to live in India(south, Kerala) and my cousins from US came and gave us SNES when prob PS1 was out everywhere else except India, no one even knew about SNES, everyone was like WOW, OMG, this is awesome. Another thing is in India its damn hard to find any games, especially in the south, god, in the south i know to get games i had to travel like 3-4 hours.

Man so SONY's next console is coming out so soon and it's not even coming to america WOW! So much for 10 years! I bet it plays no PS3 game either! They dumped the cell for the EE since it truly was more powerful! Free games WOW they put the PSP in there too!. This is going to be a beast! Man they beat the xbox to the punch and used a Wii approach! The king is back!

/sarcastic remark aside this is pretty cool if only the PS3 was $300 from the start it's almost like they needed to wait a year later. Imagine if the PS3 came out this year with metal gear 4 as a pack in! Can wait till next gen.
