1 - Ok genius
Then why don't you send Sony and Microsoft each a few billion so they can recover some of the losses they've suffered on their next gen consoles so they can afford to make pricecuts.

1.1 - So you are happy with prices?
As consumers we should always be pushing for lower prices and for greatest "bang for our buck". We should never settle for prices as they are because without consumer and competitor pressure companies would never innovate.

How companies do this innovation to make the same product for less is their problem not ours.

Never let up the pressure though.

1.3 - This is like Idaho...
...saying to all fast food restaurants lower the price of your burgers our potatoes are cheap so shouldn't the burgers be as well.

Not everyone can afford a console, just like not everyone can afford food. If anything he should mention lowering the cost of fuel or food BUT a device for entertainment. Not likely to happen. Capitalism at work.

Maybe Activision should make some more good games first and lower the cost of those.

You guys have hardcore gamer's tunnel vision. I am not quite a HC gamer and I am not a casual gamer. My interests are some where inbetween. I haven't bought a console yet. It's not that I can't afford it, its because I budget finances and have made a limit for 'entertainment'. This is why I have savings and no debt, period. You can't say that for 90 percent of Americans drowning in debt. So everyone has their reason on why they can not 'afford' to purchase consoles. The Activision spokesman was speaking about attracting NEW customers, but I expect you assfaced nerds to overlook that.

Maybe Activision could drop the price of their games to $39.99. That would help as much as dropping the price of the consoles. There have been several games I didn't buy when they came out at $59.99 but when I saw them on sale for $39.99 I bought them. I think the price of the console is less important than the price of games. You buy the console once hopefully. You buy a lot of games. If the games are $20 cheaper that means you can buy three games for the cost of two. What an idea, cheaper games.

Heres some idea's Activision
1. reduce all of your game prices to $30 then even in slow times people would be able to buy your games.
2. How about not releasing a rehash of your most popular games every 6 months to a year. Seriously GH: Aerosmith not neccisary.
3. Like post 1 stated send some money off to Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, to help with the cost of production of there consoles.

Ya I would like to see hardware prices cheaper, and no sh!t they would all sell more if they were cheaper. But I understand development costs prohibit the reduction of price in such a early stage in there life. All and all it seems to me that the gaming market is doing great. What somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 million next gen consols sold in under 2 years doesn't sound that bad to me.

4 - price cuts???
I agree with wolfehound22
except for average gamers waiting on that magic 299 -199.00 price tag for ps3 I dont hate sony but its their fault starting off with a high price console 600.00 you would think they learned that from neo-geo and 3DO console's now if the ps4 come out with price tag above 400.00 sony can forget it. basicly all a gamer want is to be able to PLAY!!!! games!!! not convert there console into a hi-fi surround sound system, or into a Ipod,mp3 player,wi-fi player or a movie entertainment center. hell all I want is a gaming console with movie like graphics with b/c to play my ps1,ps2,ps3 games when ps4 comes out in 2012 thats another issue sony need to deal with and reason why more gamers not buying now. no b/c on the current sku's mainly 40gb ps3's I found out yesterday at gamestop retail store salesperson told me sony stop production on 60gb and 80gb ps3's dont know how true that is??? so dont quote me on that.

4.1 - Well...
I'm pretty sure they stopped production on the 60GBs a while ago, but they have recently been sending out 80GB units in the MGS4 bundle with a DS3 and Sixaxis (at least here in the States). The 80GB is sells too well for them to totally ditch the idea. People want their PS2 backwards compatibility.

BS! Developers need to cut software prices because that's what's prohibitive to new audiences. Look at Wii hardware sales vs. Wii software sales. $249.99 obviously isn't discouraging anyone from buying a Wii which means the price of the crapware they're offering Wii owners is too expensive. Case in point, I would have picked up a copy of Wall-E had it been $39.99, but $49.99? Not a chance in hell when I know it will be down to $29.99 long before the movie hits DVD in 6 months. Same goes for PS3, I would have been tempted to pick up a copy of Hellboy at $39.99, but at $59.99 it doesn't interest me enough to even flip the case over to read the back.

hardware prices may be "prohibitive" to new audiences, but prices of rehashed versions of essentially the same game every 6 months are prohibitive to me. Thank God for Rock Band, because without it, we would be getting Guitar Hero 4: Different Songs, Same Game.

Now I ask you why are 8 month old games like Assassins Creed which sold over 6 million copies still 60 bucks? Now I'm no rocket scientist, but I'd say that game has sold just about all it's going to sell at that price point, and it's about time to cut it in half or even lower than that.

MS can afford to drop their price, the consoles are now making a profit, Sony on the other hand will be in sh1t city if they dropped their price, already making a loss, ps2 and psp sales getting lower, i cant see Sony putting a price drop this year until they severly reduce manufacturing costs

Agreed as far as MS go since they were smart enough not to jump in on the new storage format which till almost 3 years of its life dint create any hurdles in AAA gaming. Now sony needs to come up with new SKU with DVD Rom and price it $100 less than current price. 90% of devs will be glad to hv faster medium and will not need to fill the BD will redundent data to compensate for slow speed. It will be win win for consumers and devs although huge slap on sony's face for hyping BD.

10.2 - It is already...
known that Sony has been able to greatly reduce the cost of manufacturing the PS3, and they have been doing very well this year. The 360 price drop isn't going to hurt sales of the PS3 as much as it will Sony's wallets, because they will be forced to drop the price of the PS3 to contend if the 360 should see a huge sales spike for more than a week or two. Regardless of the companies' situations, price drops are a win-win for consumers whether you want a PS3 or a 360. I, for one, am interested to see if, or how much, MS will drop the price of the Elite. If I can get an Elite for $400 or less, I would be very tempted to pick one up.

The big software companies amuse me. The console games here in Europe are 70-75€. I don't care if the game is brilhant, but 75€ for a damm game, that's way to much. We have the Xbox360 arcade console for sale at 210€... that's the price of 3 games... DAMMM ... CONSOLE GAMES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE.

the 20, 60, and 80GB models are all backwards compatible, but the 20 and 60GB models were both discontinued. From what I recall, the 60GB had the most backwards compatible titles, but I have yet to find a PS2 game that won't play on my 80Gb (upped it to 250GB) PS3. I believe all PS3's can play PS1 games, though.

14 - This is why people hate hardcore gamers
Microsoft and Sony do not need defenders. To them all of you supergeeks are just a number. Are your real life relationships so worthless you attach such loyalty for companies that don't even know you exist?

I couldn't careless about these companies and how much they are losing on consoles. BOOO F-N HOOO! I'm playing this violin for them. I am a gamer, not a stockholder. Hey stuck up corp-suckup nerds, if you are so hard on for corperations why don't you send them your entire check from Mc Donalds every month, god knows your mom doesn't need it to pay the rent or gas.

Gamers shouldn't speak up for companies, they should speak up for each other.

15 - By the way...
No gamer made Sony or Microsoft dump millions of dollars in developing NEW unproven tech.

Sony wasted millions developing the Cell when they could have just used a PC-centric multi-core processor.

Microsoft also wasted millions, creating their 3 core processor. Why? There were quad-core processors being developed at the time, and MS blows a budget making some untested chip, BAH! Atleast the Cell is 8 core.

No one asked Sony to FORCE Blu-ray down gamers throats! ONLY 15 PERCENT OF CONSUMERS OWN AN HDTV! Morons.

200 dollars for a HD upgrade for the 360????? Oh give me a break.

These companies make one million dollar mistake after another and we gamers are expected to pay for their stupidity. F--k that.

15.1 - @anti-fanboy
Dude. Conversely no one is forcing people to buy their console. If you don't like the price, then don't buy it! Very simple. You can't blame companies for trying to be innovative. How many failed pc centric multicore processors you think tanked before they figured it out? How much money did the pc companys lost due to research? It is part of the business! It is called R&D and every company has one and does it!

BTW you should care about how much money they are losing. If you are a real gamer like you claim then you would be concern for the industry. If the big companies don't make money then in the end who do you think will lose out, the gamers!

If you think it is so easy to do what they Sony and Microsoft do then why don't you start your own company and see how far you go?

As far as your attack on hardcore gamers, don't forget if it wasn't for hardcore gamers the industry wouldn't be where it is today so please just tone it down a little. not long ago gamers were considered the black sheeps of society, don't forget that.

You are still being a knight for the gaming corperation huh? Hell, were did they put your plug?

No one said anything about 'forcing' us to buy anything. You just grabbed that idea from your arse. Why are you so hard up on defending these compaines? You don't think they make money? Send them a check for charity then. If they didn't make money from this, they wouldn't be in the market. Sony and Microsoft can easly stop paying their executives the 50 million dollar salaries. Ohhhh no what will the execs to if they only 20 million a year!?!?! There are all types of ways they can cut costs besides passing the buck on to the consumer. I can't convince a person who WASTES 400 dollars at a club (hookers I guess).

16 - Price cuts? Come on!
As far as we know both companies has loss tremendous amounts of money selling the hardware. Why would they cut the prices again, to lose more money?

IMO I think the price is actually not bad in relation to what you are getting! I mean let's take the Ps3 for example, you get a next gen console that can do all kinds of things (e.g. upscale dvd, plays bluray, plays music, media stream from pc, etc.), it has a built in wifi and hdmi, and because of it's firmware upgrade it has a industry life of 5-10 years. Right now you can get the MGS4 bundle for $499!!! That means you get the console for less than $400!!!

I am not that great at math but if you use it for let's say 6-7 years that is only $57 a year, which is slightly more than what xbox live users pay a year!

This fool sits in his corner office and talks about a price cut and I agree, but it is the games these days that i think are too expensive! I mean there are too many subpar, lackluster, and extremely short games these days that don't justify their price!

Where I am from (NYC)one fun night on the town and at a club will easily set you back $400 to $500 (a bottle at a club is $350 to $500)!!

Just me 2 cents.

Edit: @anti-fanboy I don't own stock in either company and I work in NYC, get paid a decent salary. With that salary I choose to buy what I want to compensate myself for the hard work I do. I appreciate what the companies do to make things better for gamers. How does that make me a brown nose?

BTW let me ask you what purpose do you serve? I mean what is with the hate? Did sony or Microsoft rape your dog or take food of your plate? Are you even a gamer? Or are you just a hater in need of a hug? BTW where is the hate for Activision in all this? Last I check they were also a big company.

17 - Well it's easy for activision to say that
But for SONY and MS it a different story.
Reducing the price by $100 could mean:
- making less profit (in the case of the 360)
http://www.joystiq.com/2008...
- losing another $3 billion (in the Case of the PS3)
http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

In the short term, I think MS needs to drop the price to stay ahead.

I already have a Xbox 360 and my dad has a PS3.I think the PS3 is already at a fair price I mean for $400 you get a game system,Blu Ray player, wifi, wireless controller and a Blu Ray movie. The cheapest standalone Blu Ray player out is $400.I think the Xbox 360 is at the right price too.The arcade gives you the system ($250)controller($50) and composite cables($30.Pro has a 20GB HDD($100) and the Elite gives you a 120GB HDD($180).Your already saving.

Everybody wants what they want now. Activision knew what they were getting into when they decided to become a developer. Do you hear Capcom complaining, or Konami or Epic. Activision needs to make better games. Consistently better games if they want to make a bigger profit. Corporations need to stop with the bulls#@% belief that all the games they make are great. Video games are simple make a game with good game play mechanics and good graphics and people will buy it make crap and people won't. Cheaper consoles won't sell crappy video games.
