What's new in Madden NFL 09?

So what's new in Madden NFL 09 that would make you want to buy it over the previous iteration? The 20th anniversary of the franchise brings lots of new features and Madden moments.

1 - By putting Brett Favre on the cover...
EA has ensured that every man, woman and child in the state of Wisconsin will have a copy of Madden 09 where Brett Favre only takes a backseat to drinking and God (sometimes overtaking God, but never drinking).

On a more related note, they really need to fix the gameplay in the next-gen versions of Madden. It's sad that the last-gen versions play better than the current-gen. Here's a couple pointers EA:

- fix defensive A.I. (specifically heat-seeking missile idiotic D)
- fix responsiveness issues (when I press triangle to intercept the ball, I don't want a half second/second delay between when I press the button and when the player starts the animation. Same with coming in and out of strafing)
- fix/balance everything that people cheesed with online

1.1 - 20 years of drawing jagged Field Goal Posts
Please someone besides EA develop a NFL game! PLEASE! Madden 09 looks like the usual bunch of garbage.

Heres to another horrible year of playing the only football game out! Whooo Hooo..

Id suggest things to improve upon but screw that im keeping my ideas to myself just incase I actually do get the chance to be part of a dev team.

Its sad they seriously have not had one year where the field goal posts are actually straight. Pathetic..

Madden 09 will change alot of peoples opinion with EA. I know you guys don't want to ear it but they have changed a lot. I think Peter Moore has stepped in and is running a tighter ship.

1) People complaina bout cheesing online. You can't stop it. EA can't fix it. People cheat online in all games. It's impossible to stop. No matter how good your mousetrap is...the mice get smarter.

The fact that they have moved from canned animations to tackles that can be broken mid animation is a huge leap. Wait till you see this game, it will blow you away.

I'll actually agree with Kevin on this one. By looking at the improvements I will say that this Madden has the Potential to be fantastic and avoid all the hate that the series has recieved as of late.

Thats a weird year to give up on the franchise. madden 05 was a high point in the series thats when they took the defensive ai to the next level. Anyway the second poster is right, the first two next gen maddens were really bad, but 08 is good.

Only thing new is 7 rounds of college players now in the game. Not much other than that!

I live and breathe NFL, but Madden doesn't do it for me. Bring back NFL Blitz!

After playing all the past iterations of this game, I really hope EA has added a commit suicide option.......god these are getting old.

Actually the very first next gen Madden was bad...but 08 TO ME was good enough for multiple seasons and about 300+ games online. The only thing I hate in Madden is the offensive line blocking...its terrible. I love the vision cone, the defense, and the offense actually. Its still just subject to cheaters finding out what works and exploiting it. Just gimmie a better presentation and some blocking and you got yourself a winner.

6.1 - I'll agree with you...
that the next-gen Maddens have gotten better with each new iteration, but they still aren't on par with the last-gen versions yet. The creator themselves said this last year! As I pointed out in my first post, there are still some glaring problems with the game that are not present on the PS2/XBOX.

What do you guys consider cheating? I found that cheating wasn't really that common in 08. I've played about 150 online games this year and out of that I've run into cheating maybe 10 to 15 times. Thats a pretty good ratio imo. Do you mean guys who like to run the same plays over and over to exploit certain defenses? I don't consider that cheating b/c the beauty of madden is that there is always a defense that can counter just about ever play, even the nano blitzing everyone complains about. There are also a few people who find ways to disconnect and end the game when they start losing and not receive a loss, but those were pretty uncommon too. So overall I think ea has dealt with the cheating issue pretty well already.

Yeah. I wrote my Offseason FAQ for 08 on the PS2 and got numerous emails about stuff I mentioned not being in the next gen versions. That should be one of the first tings they fix.

i gave up on madden when I bought 08 I cant believe I wasted my money on that for the ps3 I have since boycotted alllllll EA titles as I see what they truley are. I will not buy another EA game anytime soon and this years madden is no different I guess I wont be playing football games until 2011 when that stupid contract those idiots in the NFL signed away. We should boycott the NFL.

Not to start a flamewar here (i own and love both consoles) but the 360 version of 08 was pretty good. Actually the 360 getting the superior version of madden was one of the reasons I got a 360 last summer. So maybe ea will straighten its stuff out this year and both versions will be equal and 09 will be worth a purchase for the ps3.

8 - I believe the PS3 is the lead platform this year.
I thought I read something that said the PS3 is the lead platform and at all press events only the PS3 would be shown.
