LucasArts: 'We're not shutting the door on PC'

LucasArts is "not shutting the door on PC", despite the lack of a PC version of upcoming Star Wars game The Force Unleashed.

Speaking in an interview with VideoGamer.com last week, Cameron Suey, producer of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of The Force Unleashed, said that LucasArts wasn't doing a PC version of one of the most anticipated Star Wars games in years because of the vast differences in power of PCs in people's homes.

He said: "The PC being the gaming platform that it is, someone with a $4,000 high-end system would definitely be able to play the Euphoria, the DMM and really technical elements of the game. But someone with a low-end PC would have a watered down experience, they would have to turn all the settings down and it wouldn't be the same game.

"That said we're definitely not out of the PC market. It's just with our choice for this game, with the known quantity for the consoles, and every console is the same with the same processing power, it made sense for us to develop for those consoles."

while he does make some sense with his comments about low vs high end pc's. lucas arts could quite happily set a minimum spec for the game, as all pc games currently do. (the minimum system requirements on back of gamebox.)

if they dont want the experience to be that much different just set the bar for minimum specs at mid-high end pc's. how is this an issue?

still, cant wait to pick this game up on my ps3. its looking awesome, and the physics engine being used is nothing short of revolutionary.

What you're saying makes sense from a consumer standpoint, but not necessarily the business end. They may just not see enough demand in the PC gaming world to warrant an additional SKU going out, who knows? Even though there are millions of PC's in the world, it doesn't necessarily mean that there are enough people with capable computer who would be interested in this game but don't have a console to play it on. Not that i know any numbers to back anything up, just saying that there might be more to consider.

I personally wouldn't want this on my PC when i can play it on a PS3 or 360. This type of gameplay would work so much better with a gamepad than with a mouse and keyboard. I remember the days of Jedi Knight II and just how inaccurate the lightsaber combat was. Cool and kickass... but inaccurate and sometimes random compared to other platforming action titles.

Plus we have to look at the fact at just how many consoles this game is coming out on already. 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP, and DS. Lucasarts themselves are handling the PS3/360 SKU's and had to hand off the rest to Krome Studios and N-Space. Maybe they just didn't have the manpower without delaying the game even more??

BTW, have you ever tried playing games with minimum spec computers? Half the time they will just barely run, and even then look like a curled up dog turd in comparison.

Hm interesting interview, it just goes to show that there are morons at every level of business really. You do have to wonder how this guy actually got the job with him being so out of touch technology wise. I mean come on a $4000 PC please give me a break. Actually I am quite over the moon at that comment because I got a bargain then, my $1,000 PC plays all console ports at higher resolutions and better framerates. The only game that pushes it slightly is Crysis but that is still playable on high settings at 1440 x 900. I would like to see the next gen consoles manage Crysis on high settings at 1440 x 900.

I think Mr Suey needs to have a word with Bioware and tell them that current PC's can't handle console ports. Last time I looked they were bringing Mass Effect to the PC with UPGRADED graphics..... hmm someone is BSing here. I will concede Bioware has had to make sacrifices to bring the game to the PC. The main sacrifice being Max res is restricted to 1920 x 1200, oh well PC gamers don't mind slumming it (that was sarcasm for those that can't detect it).

At the end of the day it is all about Money. I am sure Lucasarts have done the sums and come to the conclusion the PC isn't profitable ENOUGH to warrant bringing the game out. So they just bring it out for every format and their dog and don't bother with the PC format. Which is fine they are after all a business, but at least be HONEST and say that, instead of all this BS they are spreading. Lucasarts with this statement and that pathetic "April fools" joke has quite clearly shown they have no respect for PC gamers and I like to hope that PC gamers will reply in kind if this company ever bothers producing another title on the PC, I know I will leave it on the shelf and take my money eslewhere.
