Substance and Subsistence USED go for $25 each at Gamestop.

All three MGS games in essential collection costs you $30 total..

pretty cheap..

People thought Orange Box was a bargain box deal.. this is a great one too

You don't need the original ps memory card to be able to save on the ps3 when playing ps games on ps3. Just create a virtual memory card on the ps3 & viola. I already have saves from einhander and tekken on my ps3. Plus to transfer the data from your ps memory card to ps3 you have to pony $15 for the memory card adaptor. But i recommend just playing the game over again & saving it on the ps3.

I thought it was confirmed that the original MGS in this collection comes on a PS2 disc, but with no upgrades to graphics or gameplay over the PS1 version.

That's going to depend on which PS3 you have. I believe MGS(1) should work on all PS3s, The other 2 shouldn't work on the 40gig at all - and I don't have confirmation on if MGS2 & 3 work on the 80 or the 60, but those are the only two versions that it should be possible on.

All PS2 games work on the 60, but not all work on the 80. I have the former, so I can't confirm what works on the latter.

Maybe wait for a friend to buy it, and then try their copy?

The North American branch of Konami really pushed hard to get this out for the NA people before MGS4 came out.. It was a personal push by them... I have heard nothing similar or anything on a EU version.

Dont forget that you also get the nes version game of metal gear also. This is def. a bargain for your buck its essentially 4 games in one package on all brand new disks might i add hmmmm no scratched disks here.

Yeah i agree but you still get the original metal gear games that were released for the msx computer system, which prob is hard to find. I never played the two but i def. want to check it out just for the story.

Iam not to sure if you have to unlock it or not, i havn't played subsistence yet and i couldn't find how to unlock it so iam guessing that you don't have to unlock it. Its on Mgs3:subsistence copy, i have mgs3:snake eater but i always wanted to get subsistence. Subsistence packs in English-translated versions of the original Metal Gear game and its sequel, each one originally released for MSX computer systems in Japan. Iam def. going to play those 2 games although they might be hard haha. Theres a dual mode where you fight the bosses without having to go through the story. Subsistence also features a "Secret Theater" mode, containing a number of bizarre, often hilarious parody videos poking fun at different aspects of the game. Oh another thing, on mgs3:subsistence you can move the camera around which wasn't available on snake eater and you can watch all the cutscenes in the demo theatre w/out beating the game, plus it has online play but there are currently no servers to be able to play online which sucks.

To be honest, most of the charm from the PS1 version is missing on Twin Snakes. It's not that good actually. Even the Encounter music (you know that classic song when you get spotted) has been removed...that just sucks.

i've played metal gear 1,2 and 3. they were'nt great but that's just my opinion! if you like great cut scenes, and not much else, then you will love the series!

blind fanboy, 1st i'm a gamer, 2nd i'm a gamer and 3rd i'm a gamer. just have'nt got my ps3 yet....but that will be sitting under my tv in time for resistance2!
