The Weekly Japan Preview: 12/30 Edition (Star Ocean, big Wii sales)

VG Chartz - 12/31/07:

Weekly preliminary Japanese data for the week ending December 30th, 2007 has arrived, showing boosts for PSP and Wii, but a general decline otherwise.

Rather than saying x game for y platform sold between 20,000 and 28,000 units as in the past, from this point forward, the preliminary data will be broken down into charts by platform. Within these charts, there will two additional categories besides the rounded sales figure under 'sales'. On the left will be 'low end' depicting the lowest amount the title likely sold for the week, while to the right will be 'high end' depicting the highest amount the title likely sold for the week.

As always, this data is preliminary, and therefore, not final, but it is based on a sample. Sales for this report are for the week ending December 30th 2007.

Additonal Notes:

• Wii hardware and software sales in Japan have seen incredible boost since Christmas. That means now that the Christmas shopping season is over, Nintendo has shifted Wii supplies from the West back to Japan to meet holiday demand there.

• Early reports confirm Wii sales in the West have dropped significantly during the same post-Christmas period. (i.e., Western markets are now receiving less Wii supplies, which have been allocated back to Japan.)

• Now that Japan has been receiving larger allocations of Wiis to alleviate the supply constraint, the Wii has gradually gone back up to outselling the PS3 by 3 to 1, 4 to 1, and now over 6 to 1.
