Chris Taylor on why Supreme C. is not coming to PS3, Dungeon Siege

IGN managed to talk with Gas Powered Games boss Chris Taylor about Space Siege, Supreme Commander, Demigod, the Dungeon Siege movie and more.

IGN: Why is it coming to 360 and not PS3?
Chris Taylor: Because the 360's got a bigger install base, so the economics work. It's a business decision.

IGN: Are we ever going to see a console version of Space Siege?
Chris Taylor: I would love to see a console version and we've been talking about it and I think we could very well see a console version. Yeah, that's not out of the question at all. I think it'd be a great console game.

IGN: Are we going to see another Supreme Commander expansion, are we going to see another Dungeon Siege?
Chris Taylor: Absolutely. There are all kinds of talks going on. Dungeon Siege 3 is being talked about, nothing's final. We're talking about working on an expansion pack called The Experimentals, where it's an experimental unit only expansion pack for Supreme Commander. Just massive experimental units for all factions.

Right now the 360 has a larger install base but it isn't that big and the PS3 is going to have a huge year this year just like the 360 did last year. If anything the 360's installed base is rather small since it had such a big second year. The PS3 won't really need to do that much to catch it. Games like MGS4 and GT5 will sell a lot of PS3's. Anyone using this excuse now isn't looking long term. They see today but not tomorrow. Companies that do that usually end up dying.

I have no idea where you are getting your numbers from but I guess good for you that you like RTS since Supreme Commander was a really good one. I finished playing it earlier this winter on my PC desktop. I still have trouble understanding while you always call the "Xbox 360" so formally as if you were personifying it as royalty.

The PS2 also had a continuous stream of so-called 'AAA' games each and every year, games available on no other console.

The 360... not so much. Take a look at the 2008's line-up for example (i'm not gonna post the whole list, I have a life). The 360 blew it's load too early, and just isn't built to last, future's looking bleak, and this is only supported by the "but, but, but... it SELLS more!" attitude of the die-hard Microsoft fans nowadays. No "it's better" arguments, just "it SELLS more".

HD-DVD's A$$ and the PS3 has a pretty impressive line up for 08. Not to mention sales are starting to pick up as a result of that. as of right now it's a no brainer with xbox having the larger install base but by summer of 08 This wont be so much of a issue.

when i bought a 360 and it broke on me twice, i didn't have three xboxs. just one, but the sales would show three units moved.

but now seriously you want to have a good rts experience, get a pc, this genre is for the pc in first place, you can have some ports and spin-offs on the console but it is not gonna reach the quality of pc rts imo, i played supreme commander on my mid-end pc and it was amazing...

You don't really expect this to stay like this do you? Do you really think the 360 will stay way ahead of the PS3? THe 360 has peaked. The hardware has a serious flaw that has been a disaster for Microsoft. The big games have all come and gone so there isn't much left. Now the PS3 is almost as cheap as the 360 and the big games will soon start coming out. Games like MGS4 and GT5. I know a lot of car nuts who love GT and will buy a PS3 for that game alone. And MGS4 will NEVER be out on the 360 no matter how much people cry for it. Why dumb down a great game? If you want it buy a PS3.

By this time next year the Wii will be about dead, the 360 will be showing its age and the PS3 will be on top where it belongs.

Since I only own a PC, I will give my opinion on this game since it's been out awhile.

This game did alright on the PC, however I was dissapointed by it. This game is about large scale battles but the way the game is set up, you spend a majority of your time looking at the global map moving dots around. I guess what im trying to say is the game isn't very immersive or tactical, no individual unit that you build makes a difference.

Honestly if you want to play a RTS with more depth and immersion pick up anything by "relic" they made
""Company of Heroes"" which won GOTY of 06 and it kicks f#@king a$$.

This is just for you people who are serious RTS fans or those of you in the market for a new rts to play, pick up "Company of Heroes" for the PC instead if you can

Relic ruined every other RTS for me, Dawn of War killed all and then CoH came out and did the same thing. I played a few hours of Supreme Commander and it really was nothing to write home about, just like Dungeon Siege. Except in DS's case I spent a while in that game before I realized it was really derivative. So it's funny to see people arguing about a game that's been out for a while that they never have played or don't intend to purchase.

If I were to choose between CoH and SupCom, I would choose SupCom. The epic scale, the deep economy system, the awesome units, and the complex gameplay make SupCom one of the most satisfying RTS games I've ever played. To be able to penetrate through the base of a turtler and take out his commander using scouts and interceptors as distraction to the AA then bringing in the strategic bombers from behind is such an awesome feeling.

Yes it is. I don't know when PC fanbase started caring about what happens with consoles cause in regards to consoles, PCs don't matter. They are of a totally different market and mind-set and thus the reason games like halo ARE exclusive because it's only found on one console.

PCs have never mattered in the console race and I don't know why it's fanbase all of a sudden this gen are trying to compare platforms. Maybe a little insecure perhaps.

Actually I hate to burst your bubble mate but the Xbox 360 is more like a PC software wise, given the fact most of the Xbox 3's AAA titles are PC ports. without the PC Microsofts Xbox would be in a shi+y situation.

I have said this is many posts, if you have a PC there is no point in having a Xbox 360. The line up is very much the same, anything decent that comes out for the PC usually goes to the Xbox 360 and vice versa. this is because Microsoft has something called a monopoly on the computer gaming market. The PC is the most useful tool Microsoft has going for it in the console war. However I also think those that are turned off and intimidated by PC gaming (I know I'm starting to get tired of all the money I have been dumping into my PC) but like the titles are picking up a Xbox 360. Those that are very much into PC gaming are going for the PS3 because it's technical capabilities and unique line up, not a weaker rehash of what they have already bought ported over to the xbox 360

Complain all you want about making the RTS genre more accessible, it doesn't make your PS3 look any better, or the Xbox 360 look any worse.

You simply don't understand the market, and don't seem to understand the majority of console owners have consoles either as an extra toy next to their awesome PC, or (the majority) have a console because they simply cannot afford PC gaming.

Do PS3 players really care? It's not like we're getting screwed out of a great game. I've played it on the PC and not at all impressed. It's the game developer that's screwed - he might want to look at the increase of PS3 sales and consider the potential under it's hood...no matter, even if it's a port..that's what bargain bins are for.

14.1 - Fan boys of all sorts out number gamers here about 12/1.

The problem is SONY is in last place so SONY/PS3 fans feel that give them a license to be the biggest @sses they can be.

What is even sadder is some of the more intelligent individuals can see the effect of garbage they pedal is having on the site but yet they still cannot get enough. They seem to get more enjoyment out of trying to bother XBOX fan than the PS3 all together.

Also the Internet is the only place tools like this get any breathing room. 2008 just started and just because they did not get 2006, or 2007 they seem to want to force things along. Try as they may the truth will still prevail. I will soon own a PS3 myself and I’m really looking forward to it. But if this stuff keeps up I just may not.

Take a look at what BFME II did with a controller and it's not hard to seeing using a controll is not 'teh death" like the PC fanbase love to act like.

Plus, it also seems PC gamers love to ignore the fact that the PS3 has K/M support too.

Besides, I love using the controll pad that's why I'm a console gamer. The K/M maybe more precise but the controll pad does a great enough job for me.

When RTSs come to consoles they aren't targeted towards PC gamers, they're targeted towards console gamers as it seems PC gamers now think that every console gamer also PC games which is far from the truth.

I've read about how RTSs shouldn;t come to consoles and I jsut think that's very selfish of a group to think an entire genre should be platform exclusive. That's immensely shallow and closed minded.

I purposely didn't bring up the fact that the PS3 had KB/M support so as not to add another log into the flame fires. But you're right, and this game in it's current state would benefit from that greatly on the PS3 but it won't be going. BFME II did have awesome controls, but it was built with the 360 in mind wasn't it? Supreme Commander doesn't appear as such considering the amount of micro involved with the game, they might pull it off but I'm not holding my breath on that.
