Rumor - Atari's The Witcher Coming to Xbox 360

CD Projekt, have publicly said in multiple interviews that The Witcher would not be brought to consoles. It looks like that's all about to change as the company now has job openings for console programmers on its website. More specifically, the company is looking for programmers and producers familiar with the Xbox 360 hardware.

That's not what has people thinking the job is for The Witcher though. The job requires the Xbox 360 programmer to be skilled in "parallel programming". This basically means "porting" a program that's designed to work in one environment into a near identical product that can perform in a different environment (or architecture). This is on top of the fact that they posted the ad on The Witcher website.

1 - Hopefully a PS3 version is around the corner

They just said last week it's not coming out on consoles. And now they're hiring people to port a game to 360. Why even lie? These companies treat us like we're stupid. If they lied about that, I bet we get it on PS3 too.

The programmings for PC and Xbox 360 are very similar. Developers can basically reuse most of the codes from PC for the Xbox 360 port, and that saves time and money.

On the other hand, the programming for the PS3 is very different from PC/Xbox 360. If a developer wants to port something from PC/360 to PS3, they have to redo most of everything, and that's very costly.

ON THE OTHER HAND, I don't think Atari will be around next year to publish the 360 port... it'll most likely be a different publisher.

Well it could be potentially super good news since The Witcher and CD Projekt deserve EVERY single good thing they can get and more exposure the master piece that The Witcher is wont be bad (this one will probably be PC RPG game of the Year)

BUT I don't think people should get their hopes up...just yet since this job posting could potentially mean anything and if we use other examples (Crytek ,GSC) is not really a confirmation for anything

but hey if it really happens be sure to pick the game up :)

Run2Gun@ like I said with my examples: similar job offering, similar rumors about their project being ported to the consoles...nothing really happened or has been remotely announced

The job posting is for someone familiar with 360 and porting. And it's posted on the Witcher site. How is that almost guaranteed? That sounds like a sure thing to me.

hmm it has sold more than 200,000 copies in russia alone.....so global sales must easily be arnd 600-700k or even more so i dont think they really need to make a console port

haha if ur talking bout that article on n4g then it was me who made that article and i made a small mistake it dint sell 1 million it premiered with 1 million copies.....not sold....but still it has sold arnd 600-700k copies that is for sure

Who honestly thought The Witcher was going to be PC exclusive? The game has console written all over it. Unfortunately, it'll be based off the American version instead of the dirty original.

I know this might sound like a long shot, but we will see a Crysis port, but probably of the same quality as Far Cry

I have the European version....trust me guys this game while you could easily play it on a controller it WILL suck on the 360. We are better off hopping for a port of Crysis which I think will happen since no one can actually play that game on pc the way it was meant to be seen.

I generally abhor western/euro fantasy with the most burning of passions but this game captured my interest, at least for about 3 hours until I started playing something else. I'll go back to it though, the combat system is pretty sweet. It's beaten the hell out of Oblivion for me so far.

This game rocked on the PC but it was an epic resource hog so making levels fit on 512 RAM will be pretty damn hard. I also don't see how you can play this game without a hard drive.

Holy moly uber awesome cool news and found. I know it's rumor but I pray that it happens. The Witcher is among my fave PC games and I couldn't play it much (And didn't even try it on my system because my computer is 5 years old ).
I've been praying for such news, Witcher going to console(s) and now if it happens, I can enjoy this uber awesome RPG on my 360.

one of the devs on the official witcher site had this to say
"As for now we treat PC gamers as a first-class citizens (The Witcher is "exclusive" on PC) so there's really no point in worrying about second part of our game since it's not even announced I think we clearly proved that we can develop games that are huge, deep and full of great RPG features. There's no reason why should we forget about our fanbase and start to make crappy games with bugged controls etc. No such thing will ever happen. Our dev team worked too hard to do such things... So, have a little more faith in us - The Witcher proved we're keeping our promises when it comes to good RPG game."

I like how they claim the controls on consoles are bugged but thier own game wouldn't even run because the copy protection was borked. Its also interesting to note that the important controls of this game can be easily mapped to a controller. Quite frankly many of the controls in the game are just keyboard spam.

But yes The Witcher is better than the pos known as Oblivion.
