New Screenshots of "Aion: Tower of Eternity" - New MMO for PS3 and PC

Using the latest version of the CryEngine, Aion: Tower of Eternity is an expansive new MMORPG by NCsoft's Seoul development studios. In Aion, players are divided between those that are "The Chosen" and those that are "The Fallen." The Tower of Eternity exists as a gateway into the Abyss, and acts as a portal between dimensions.

This new MMO is set to release on both the PC and PlayStation 3. Check out all the latest screenshots by clicking the jump.

Aion is one of the first of a couple new MMO's that will be coming to the PS3 from NCsoft. It was part of the new deal, when Sony acquired them.

I don't think sony aquired them, BUT i do think by the end of 2008, when sony sees how the NCsoft games are doing they will. Sony has a History with partnering up, with a dev before they buy them. Like before they bought the Motorstorm devs or the Killzone 2 devs. I heard a rumor from sufergurl that Sony will aquire Quantic Dreams (Heavy rain dev) Ready at dawn and maybe NCsoft next year. Which from sony's past History won't be much of a surprise.

Oh crap, I've been able to resist all the MMOs on PC so far, but these ones on the PS3 may be a little more difficult. If the subscription is free for the game as it is for PSN, then I might just give it a try...

My girlfriend and I have been long time players of EQ and EQII, Or Evercrack as it's usually known. (Although not been playing since I bought my PS3). If you're a big RPG fan they can be dangerous! LOL.

This is looking really nice and I imagine it will bring a lot of console players into the world of MMORPG's. This has completely come out of the blue for me and my girlfriend is currently trying to track down more info lol.

If you're a fan of rpg's then give it a go but be careful when you do heheheh.

Sony's "The Agency" looks a bit more appealing to me than this one... and I'm not a huge MMO fan and or pc gamer, so I don't think it'll appeal to me. I just couldn't be bothered with spending 50+ hours of my life on a game. I don't see how people do it with WOW. I really don't.

I don't think its been confirmed. More speculation...however NCsoft did say they have 4 MMO titles in the works for the PS3, and since this game uses the CryEngine...and engine known for being multiplatform...it could easily be one of the four upcoming titles.

Also, NCsoft made a deal with Sony to exclusively develop for the PC and PS3...so you won't see any of their games on the Xbox anytime soon.

I read in one of the latest interview with them they should announce a game for Late 2008. But they really have not said what game it will be [old or new].

But NCSoft is working on a little MMO called Dragonica. :o

The CryEngine was not ported to the PS3 so this game won't work.

The CryEngine is actaully already being used to make PlayStation 3 games. Here is an article about it:

17 - NcSoft has some work to do

after the lack in content in city of heroes im kinda scared. CoH was way more enjoyable than WoW to me because the a-hole to cool ppl ratio was skewed so far in CoH's favor. the graphics, powers, concept was great. lacked content and unbalanced pvp. gimme a demo. and gametrialers has a movie of this but the quality is kinda blah.

NCSoft had said they were bringing their future PC projects to the PS3, and Aion: The Tower of Eternity had already been on the table for possible console port so this is great news if 100% confirmable.

As for people pushing Aion away as if it was a small rate game? I urge you to reconsider. This game IS the next-gen MMO and it aims to be the most beautiful MMO ever created. I've seen the korean closed beta videos...and OH MY GOD it's just so beautiful in motion.

As for the whole "cryengine not being ported to PS3" that's actually incorrect. The Far Cry port for PS3 and the Cry2Engine has already been approved for the PS3 if anyone wants to use it. It's like the Unreal Engine....a developer just has to buy the engine and then make a game based on it. Not like Far Cry devs could say "We want to make our engine useful but not to anyone else but MS and PC".

As for Aion? It only runs on the first generation Crytek engine which is available for purchase and use for whatever developer and publisher wants.

NC Soft hasn't 100% confirmed this but either way....PC or PS3 this game is going to be amazing. Still, PS3 would be more than enough graphical and CPU power to handle the game so why the heck not right?

After playing a few MMO's in my time I really do think this looks stunning. This blows away pretty much any MMO I've played in terms of graphics.

I very much doubt it will be free but I hope they manage to get the cost to a minimum. After playing EQ and seeing it go from Verant to Sony I've seen how Sony very much like to charge you. If it's good enough though, I don't mind paying.

graphics arent everyone thing on an mmo. and NcSoft isnt that great at making them run smooth with a lot of ppl. even with bare minimum settings in CoH you get 50-75 ppl all using powers....lag central.

Highly unlikley that this will be free to play. Guildwars was free because it's not a traditional MMO since everything was instanced and expansions came out for like crazy. Expansions that would of been just free upgrades on a traditional MMO.

Very true, the games aren't all about the graphics, I've loved my time playing a Berserker in EQ2 because of the gameply and also the wonderful people I've met. I've played others and found a bunch of angry children and gameply which was severly lacking.

Hopefully this will bring a wonderful community and great gameplay with the oh so pretty graphics =)

i have a lot of respect for NCsoft cause they don't charge for some of their MMO's. i'm a particularly large fan of guild wars, and this game is looking very much like it. (and i seriously mean, looking).

and to the comment that GW isn't a traditional mmorpg, i agree with that. but GW2 is supposed to be persistent world and free as well
