BioShock PC install limit increased from 2 to 5 per copy
14
2K Games has loosened the DRM copy protection on the PC version of BioShock by raising the activation limit from 2 to 5 installations per copy. The move is a response to complaints that the copy protection was too restrictive.
If players still have issues, 2K says they should contact SecuROM, the company who created the copy protection software, to request re-activation and other fixes.

1.1 - because torrent is killing PC gaming
When did PC gaming start dying? At about the same time torrent and file sharing started since late 1990s and early 2000s.
The ease and widespread of piracy have been killing PC gaming. Game developers have turned to MMO, subscriptions, and pay-to-play as workaround solutions to fight rampant piracy. At least they know they'd always get the money from players when everyone has to pay-to-play.
So single-player games just slowly but surely fade away on PC. The money is just not in unprotected single-player games anymore. Why would anyone want to pay for the games when they could so easily and freely download it from the Internet without paying a dime?
Now game developers are fighting back... with copy protection and DRM. If this is the way to encourage developers to get back into making single-player games for PC, then I'm all for it.

Lol, PC gaming is the best. PC gaming pirates are the problem.
Apparently this game has already been cracked and is available for download. I rented it for the 360 myself simply because I had no intention of buying a game for $60 when it has ZERO replay value. Single player only is fine, just don't charge me $60 for a game that only lasts about 10-12 hours.
Yes, that is how long it took me. I rented it Wed. and I beat it yesterday. It was a good game, but it doesn't deserve the over the top reviews it has recieved either. Lol, oh yeah, that 10-12 hours included getting both endings.

2.1 - Agreed
PC gaming is becoming such a hassle. The games are looking even better but the problem is, like the first commenter said, that you must upgrade your graphics card to the latest to truly enjoy the visuals that the devs put so much effort into. Only 5 installs is pure sh*t when you have to pay full price for this game. I'm sure hackers are working on this issue right now although I don't promote stealing games that are worth your money.
I hope this game makes its way to the PS3.

3.1 - A pirated copy is NOT playable at all
unless you went through the trouble to crack it yourself, or you use a cracked copy -- which is always risky because it could be infected with virus.
In BioShock's case, you'd have to activate it ONLINE to be able to play it. Otherwise, the game wouldn't even work.

As far as I know, online activation hasn't stopped crackers from success.
But this whole deal just sucks. Not being able to install a f*cking game how many times it may take through a lifetime is just plain idiotic!

i thought with the new vista operating system...it made pc gaming like console gaming...where you don't have to load a game any more...just pop it in and play.
is that completely wrong?

The only game i've seen that could do that was Halo 2, and I thought that was a completely worthless idea. You were given the option to start playing it while it was installing.
