GC 2007: FIFA Interactive World Cup Exclusive to PS3

Sony has signed a deal with Electronic Arts and FIFA to be the official partner for the FIFA Interactive World Cup, which kicks off this October. The announcement means that players from 25 countries from around the world can compete to be the world's number one player over PlayStation Network, as well as real-world FIWC 08 qualifying events scheduled to take place in the coming months.

most people in US think that MADDEN is the most popular sport game in the WORLD .. just lol ..

in my country, ppl dont know what the F*** is MADDEN .. or Football has another meaning than soccer..

FIFA and PRO Evolution are the most popular games here.. and most people have at least one version of them .. ( me : FIFA 98&2000&2005,Pro 5 & 6 )

I personally don't believe Volleyball is the most popular.

Football (Soccer) fills stadiums with up to 120 000 spectators. And all over the world people watch football (soccer). No way volleyball is more popular.

A volleyball player will never earn 200 000 US$, or more even, a week either like some soccer players do.

Edit:

Soccer is by far the largest sport in the world.

Volleyball could be nr. 2 maybe.

It made perfect sense that MS focused on promoting madden since it's a big hit in the U.S. the xbox doesn't do too well in international terrritory (just a very few)...only in the US...FIFA was a great move...Im surprised MS didn't just to make a bid for $60 million of extra content...THATS FUNNY how much MS has spent !

18 - You want to know why they did this?

because I'm starting to see xbox360 pop up on billboards around the football pitch where ps2, and even a few ps3's used to be. It's also over the tunnel that the players enter and exit the field from. One of the reasons i still like Sony is because they are, as ESPN put it, "the official sponsors of the UEFA Champions league."

Soccer (or Football round here in Brazil) is not for US. It's for Europe, Japan, some other parts of Asia, Latin America and parts of Africa (those that knows what a videogame is).

You have to face it, PS3 launched in March on Europe, and from there 'till now, it's most like to be outselling 360 every week, when you sum the numbers of all countries... 360 just sell more consoles world-wide cause it's real popular in US.

So, if you come to a game that it's not popular in the US, you have to think twice about what platforms you will choose to develop for. A Would Cup version of FIFA, even if limited to world cup teams and mode, is popular enough to move some consoles worldwide, but most like will just get dust on the shelves US. So it's just like making even a port to 360 would not be profitable, since about 70% of the X360 are on US, and these guys don't care about soccer.
