BioShock length revealed
45
Some minor spoilers ahead: It's been recently revealed that BioShock is around twenty hours long. Speaking at a BioShock screening at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, Take Two Interactive Europe PR Manager Adrian Lawton stated that "We've being doing a lot of review sessions recently with press guys. Most people are coming in around twenty hours," Lawton stated. He also revealed that there will be two alternate endings to the game.

Thats funny because Bioshock is a FPS and has been getting perfect and just under perfect scores.
@Ri0tSquad
Its already been said that Bioshock is unique in every area you go to but every game reuses textures for floors to walls and even tables, books, and etc. Also UT3 multiplayer maps will most likely reuse the textures it will use in its singleplayer so your arguement is void. Not to mention singleplayer levels are usually alot bigger and use alot more textures, coding, and AI which all take up space on the medium.

There using the same textures or same areas for the game probaly and plus in bioshock you have to remember its all single player no multiplayer. In UT3 theres a single player campaign and a multiplayer mode.

Not another dumb DVD9 comment. Understand this. Blu-ray's benefits will become more clear as time goes on. It's not just dumbed down to game length. It also effects unique texture, audio (some compressed and some not).

What surprises me is that no two textures look alike. Incredible that it's 20 hours long, I would have guessed 12-15.

I just hope it's not like Condemned's "alternate" endings (for those who played the game, you'll know what I'm talking about). No disrespect to Condemned though, it was an awesome game and is one of my favorites.

All that matters to me is that this is a nice, long (for an FPS), game. I hate paying 60 dollars for a game that I can beat in 2 days.

Yeah, 20 hours is way too short. It may be a pretty game, but $60 is a lot for only two days of gameplay. I guess it's as long or longer than Gears (on the first run), but Gears' co-op and just the way the campaign is makes for lots of replay for me. I've been trying to decide between Two Worlds and Bioshock, and I might just go for Two Worlds because of this.

I don't think it will take 40 hours to finish the game twice. The second time through, the player will be much better and know what's coming (in some cases) and therefore, be better prepared. Maybe 35 hours for both?

but seeing as how in a bioshock story no one cares about R+C (Seeing as how it is like a camel dung compared to this) or PS3 fanboys (Like the guy talking about UT3 as if it's a gift from god, even when the previous games werent exactly life changing)...

Single player only, and a corridor crawler too! This is a wait for it to drop to $20 for me, or a rental if I decide I can't wait that long. I played the demo and it didn't do much for "ME".

Odd but I with you Guitarded...
I played the demo and it has excellent graphics and I like the innovation of the gamplay. I like scary games but I don't like this one. To me it's like a scary movie trying to hard.
I don't take anything away from the scores that it's received because it's not my flavor. It deserves a 9 or 10 for what it does right but I just don't personally like the game.
Don't worry, they won't miss my $60. This game will sell well.

No. It's just that multi-player games need to be bought close to release so you don't get owned, and their is a strong community to play with b4 they move on to the next big title. In most cases anyway. I hope dev's read this and get my point. Basically all single player only games are a wait for a price drop for me, since the experience will not change with the wait unlike multiplayer games.

i'm getting this game for PC. so anyone bashing the crashbox can go troll elsewhere. the demo got me hooked but lack of multiplayer (not all games need MP) and passion for PC FPS titles will fill that void i've been missing for some time. this one won't hit the 360 unfortunately

16 - It's goin' down
I knew from the jump Bioshock was going to be a standout game, but I never planned on purchasing it. However, that was before GTA4 was delayed. My plan was to purchase Halo 3 n' GTA4 n' have a good 'ol fourth quarter, rent Bioshock eventually. Like someone mentioned before, it sucks to drop 60 or even 50 on a FPS that I know I can simply rent n' beat within the alloted time. But with this game being a lengthy (by FPS standards) 20 hours and having multiple endings, I'll be grabbing this for certain.

The game is 20 hrs long and u lot are putting it down. Its much longer than Gears of War and many other fps titles. i think only Half Life 1 was longer than Bioshock and with 2 different endings that puts it way over 30hrs of gameplay!
Stop complaining. I don't think any xbox or ps3 game is 20 hrs long for the single player apart from a few sandbox games.

Seafort I'm not sure if you read Angryhippo's comments correctly or what but he wasn't putting the game down. 20 hrs is plenty and knowing me it will be even longer since I like to explore every corner and then when you add the replay value its definitely going to be many many long hrs of good fun. Irrational did a great job, I'm impressed.

20 hours is plenty of time for a game like this. Its like gourmet food, when you get a value meal you get a ton of food because its fast food its bland nothing really went into making it, but gourmet food comes in smaller portions because it rich, with lots of flavor or atleast it should be. People say gears was short I loved the size of Gears. I hate those games that will have you doing some tedious task over and over just so the feature doesnt seem to go to waste, like fishing mini games. In Gears you drove the car thing once, they could have had you drive it more but once was enough I understood the intesity of the drive from that one. I had to fight on the train against those flying things one time. Its like a movie now, all because you got this great special effect you dont make the movie 15minutes longer just so you can add it again. Bioshock seemed really rich in the demo, very intense so 20 hours seems plenty.

You re a FPS competetive player. You probably have been playing fps for awhile if you wernt floored by Bioshock. The first fps were seriuosly story based because multiplayer wasnt available yet. But its strange you wouldnt be excited for a return to what made the genre a staple in the industry.

22 - Why
Why are people puting a 20 hour game down? I mean heavenly sword is only around 15 there was a thread not long ago about it and some of the people commenting on here about how short the game was was ok with that being 15. I mean im not bashing any system or game I think games like heavenly sword, bioshock, lair, too human cod4 all should be around the 12-20 hour long I think that is a good time frame. Rpg should be longer more like 40 plus. Maybe Im old school I dont know all I know is Im going to have loads of fun with the games I just named along with mass effect and ratchet and clank...........wow its so cool to be a gamer this gen just look at them lol.
