Crytek: "Crysis could be on the 360 or PS3"

With him using the word "Or" rather than "And" makes me think that only one console would get it. He could've said "Could be on the 360 and PS3" but he didn't. The way I see it, 360 and PS3 have both advantages on their side if, and only if, one console gets it.

PS3 advantage: Well, if you go to Crytek's homepage they were looking for PS3 programmers. I know they denied it already but denials nowadays are just form of damage control. We heard tons of denials already that apparently became true, from the 360's Elite to the PS3's pricecuts, so denials doesn't mean rumors are false.

360 advantage: It has the same architecture as PC so its easier to port the game for the 360 than the PS3.

Imo, I do believe that Crysis will be ported, just not sure what console or maybe both but the use of "OR" just made me wonder. I just hope they port as soon as they can before it gets buried by great games coming in the future.

Some time ago that both consoles would be getting a 'Different' version of the game Crysis as there is no way it could look that good on the consoles, you need loads of ram, really high end CPU speeds and also a top end graphics card.

All in all to get Crysis look at its top level you need a monster of a PC.

I really hope it comes to the ps3, but i have my doubts about a 360 version, not to sound fanboyish or anything but a game like crysis looks like it would take up more than 9 gigs of space and the 360 discs might not be able to store all that, unless crysis takes up less gigs than i think it does, but fingers crossed that it comes to a console, cause im not buying the pc version

After realizing only 5 pc in world can run this thing at max setting. It's good to see these guys jump the bandwagon like Epic Games is doing right now. PC is getting too far ahead of itself, nobody can afford these upgrades anymore. Remember what happened to DOOM 3?

you can run most pc games even on GF6800 today, but at which quality.. that is a question. =)

anyway, get so realistic foliage on console, i don`t think that it is possible, maybe like in uncharted, they could get, but it will look more CG and less realistic. =]

PC gaming is too expensive at the moment, I decided against upgrading recently because I was sick to death of the cash I was spending, and I plumped for a 360 instead (which I got with 4 games and an extra controller for cheaper than the 8800 GFX card!).

It was only a matter of time before they considered porting this to the consoles, and I do hope Crytek are doing the ports themselves this time, as the Far Cry ports Ubisoft did were ghastly.

Crytek ported their last blockbuster, Far Cry, to Xbox (but not Playstation), so it's possible that they'll do it again for 360.

PC and 360 are similar architectures and can reuse a lot of the codes. So making a port between two platforms (PC and 360) is easy.

On the other hand, PS3 has a completely different architecture than PC/360. So developers would have to rewrite everything from ground-up if they want to port anything over from PC/360.

They will want to probably publish it on both consoles.

What amazes me is how a game like Crysis can just fit nicely on a normal DVD9 but even with installation on a PC when uncompressed still is around the size of the capacity of the DVD9 itself.

So what gets me is why we need HD based discs for games when a game like Crysis can just fit on a DVD!!

It would be cheaper and easier to make the game on the 360 given the fact that the 360 GPU has all the necessary technology without having to spend the time and money getting the CPU to do all the work which is in the case of the PS3 since the RSX is very old.

Well its not surprising that it sounds like he may be having a change of heart, consoles are where the big money is especially for this type of game. I have no doubt this game will end up on consoles eventually.

Iam by no means a developer and obviously they have much more intimate knowledge of the PC's and console archetecture, but I also have been around long enough to know that when a dev says a particular game can't be done on a particular platform then its most likely more hype than substance, unless he's specifically referring to hardware thats 3 or 4 generations older than what they are currently designing the game on.

If dev's were being completely straight up I think a more accurate statement is that we would have to do some things differently to port this game over to ____ platform. -In some cases that means downgrading certain aspects and in some cases that just means making minor changes, but its still the same game. In other words I think its foolish to believe that Crysis CAN NOT be ported to consoles, however I think its also foolish to believe that it would look just as visually stunning as what high end PC's can deliver, although it should be noted that dev's always find ways of getting some really amazing results out of consoles over their life cycle while PC's unfortunately always seem to need more upgrades to run next yrs best PC games.

Well I just got these EXCLUSIVE leaked pics from Crytek, showing an early build of the ps3/360 version of crysis. Apparantly they are having problems streaming the textures onto only 512 ram as opposed to 2-4 gigs on the pc version. Take a look.

Because not all 360 has a harddrive they cant make it so it will have to be installed. Wich a i have no doubt it will be on pc.

Yes of course you are gonna be able to play mass effect and bioshock without the hdd. But Crysis are above those games in graffic and the pc version will without a doubt have installment to be able to handle this game, wich the 360 version can´t have. But youre right on the ps3 part, i doubt they will make a port to that either. So expect this game to be pc only..

i'm not really concerned about the graphical quality because while it wont look as good as a top of the line PC chances are it'll still look damn good, my issue with a 'port' of it is that they'll outsource it to some lame-arse developer who'll totally butcher the franchise aka far cry

Its one EA game and we all know EA wont miss a single chance to make more money. They brought their every single PC game including the Sims to every platform including DS, PSP, PS2, Xbox and more...
Crysis is a expensive game and one tha6t EA wont just let vanish in the PC market ruled by WoW and its own Sims.

"Could" is not the same as "will". We all know Crytek has designed CryEngine2 to work on both the PS3 and X-box360. Even though it is possible Crysis could come to consoles in some form, this rumor was debunked by the CEO of Crytek earlier this year when he stated that Crysis was currently not in development for console by any studio. Also Crytek is not owned by EA, they are an independent third party developer and EA simply will publish their game, so while they may be enticed by EA to muliplatform Crysis, they cannot force them. Also to those saying it will require a "monster computer" to run Crysis, the estimated minimum requirements for Crysis are Windows XP or Vista(Standard, Vista not Required), Dual-Core Processor(Now Standard), 1 gig Ram(Standard), 256mb DX9 or DX10 compatible video card. This is far from being a monster machine, and the cost of upgrading a slightly older machine could be comparable to the cost of purchasing a next-gen video game system.

Why would they port to a less powerful machine in the 360? Everyone agrees of the processing power of the ps3 and the available blu-ray. Surely they would factor in for the decision. I would love to have crysis because it looks amazing.

Most likely because of the fact that a very strong pc is needed and not many people will be willing to spend all that money on upgrading. Why not sell to the millions of console owners instead?

So there are no plans to bring Crysis to consoles in future?

The only way I can see Crysis on consoles right now is as a variation of it. And I don't have any plans right now for a variation of Crysis.

You have a PlayStation 3 R&D room here, but there doesn't seem to be an Xbox 360 room. Why is that?

Actually we have one, but it's separate. PC and 360 are in one room. The PS3 room is separate because we have some secret technologies being developed there which are not related to CryEngine 2. Our PS3 development is going deeper than many people assume right now.

There are competitors right now who have PS3 technologies up and running. We had our initial version up and running, but we said there are too many compromises.

Yes, we could have commercialised the engine business et cetera, but we felt that if you want to make console games one day - if you want to get groundbreaking results and do things people think are impossible, you need technologies and solutions for that.

The platform itself has a lot of power, but the technology has to provide a framework for the developer so we can unleash that kind of gameplay.

Do you have a room for Wii R&D?

We have Wii development but it's very small, it's more like testing ideas. We don't have a project at this stage.

We have a console game in development right now which won't be announced for a while. It's a complete departure from Crysis and Far Cry, it's not a first-person shooter. For that, we're optimising technology, but for another reason, the future in general, there is a dedicated PS3 team.

Nintendo Wii is certainly on the radar. We will do something for Nintendo Wii - the question is when. I think some time maybe in three or four years, but nobody knows when.
