What "Grand Theft Auto 5" Needs To Do

With the recent release of Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony for the Xbox 360, there has been a picture in the manual teasing the next GTA. While the teaser only shows seagulls and little else, people have been speculating the next iteration will take place in Vice City. Nonetheless, people still aren't too satisfied with the GTA4 saga and still believe San Andreas was the peak if the series. So with that, this article will hopefully list all the things people are still clamoring for in a current generation Grand Theft Auto title.

I doubt the game is exclusive to the PS3, thus not being able to fully use the blu-ray. Why would they advertise GTA V with the "Episodes of Liberty City" game then? Why would you advertise a upcoming PS3 exclusive on a 360 exclusive?

Maybe it will happen, but I doubt they go exclusive again.

With all these new GTA rumors, there must be something it. When there's these many rumors, it normally turns out true or at least partially true.

Needs to improve on San Andreas, not go backwards.

More non-mission activities besides taxing people around, hell why does this even need to be said. GTA5 needs to actually be like the GTA series.

1.7 - I want the cars to drive like they used to
I don't want to feel like it's a chore to drive in the game. I did it because I'm a gamer but I'd at least like an option ala Killzone 2's high precision control.

I know the game won't be exclusive but all that blu-ray space and standard HDD should not go to waste.

If you do exclusive DLC for 360 again I will not buy the game at all. As is I didn't sell GTA4 when it was still going for a decent price because I just knew that DLC was timed exclusive. Looks like I'm wrong.

More options in terms of relationships and real consequences if caught out there cheating.

Option to pick a friend up or meet them at the arranged spot to hang out.

That's all I got for now.

it needs destructible environments. you should be able to bring the buildings and bridges down like in red faction.

and the world needs to be more influenced by your actions. if you go on a rampage in a certain area, people shouldn't goto that area as much for a while, and you should be able to hear about your actions on the radio, like "15 people were gunned down today by an unknown assailant in <something> park. Police are advising citizens of liberty city to avoid the park til the perp is captured." or something like that.

and co-op would be nice too

MGS4 has been the biggest game on bluray and it's no where near the size and scope of GTA IV. Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed prove that games with massive expansive worlds are more than capable on DVD9.

It's not the disc space that matters, it's how they use it. But there are examples of games that needed to be on more than one disc. Still, the only limitation DVD9 has is if you want the game to be on only one disc. The two nearly identical console versions of GTA IV proved that it's not about the disc.

1.12 - GTA mixed with Burnout paradise
GTA's online should work as well and smooth as burnout.
quick and easy.
Gay tony is the most awsome of the two DLC's. the guns rock!
It has so much more to do. or at least more things to do that I find fun.
Gta needs a better lobby system.
it needs more activities when online. like the club from gay tony. it needs girls too.
There's always a girl!

But yeah you are right the next GTA won't be exclusive but
it may not even be GTA V guys.

They may carry on with GTA IV: (New Town) like San Andreas and Vice City carried on with GTA3

Decent gameplay and good controls would be a good start.
Sub-standard controls in GTA were understandable last gen as the size of the game was pushing the system, but now the main thing they need to do is give the game genuinely good controls.

For anyone who disagrees just think of it this way...
How crap does GTA4 feel played online compared to other games?
The shooting, fighting, running and driving just don't feel good enough. If you take the story, ect, out of it and just left the multiplayer to mess about with it would be considered to be a laughably bad game. I know GTA isn't all about the multiplayer but I'm just using that to illustrate the bad gameplay.

Better controls, and toned done physics. Driving helicopters, cars, and boats were just a chore.
More set pieces in the single player campaign that really take advantage of the fact that the game is open world (like the Bank robbery in GTA4, the last mission, etc...)
Have the mutliplayer run perfect, no lag and framerate up at all times. Multiplayer in GTA4 was awesome so just expand on that.

Thats pretty much it, GTA4 was an amazing game and I look forward to buying another THIS GENERATION PLEASE ROCKSTAR!

He seems careful not to include it should be bigger like San Andreas, and include back country like San andreas did.

Because he doesn't want the game going PS3 only, which would be the only way for rockstar to pull off a bigger game.

Rockstar's operating budget would be severely undercut by their decision to keep the game exclusive to a single platform. The amount of money they get back from launching their games would sharply drop. So, as much as I would love to see Rockstar make a GTA game using the full blu-ray disc, it seems non-sensical, and fiscally irresponsible for the heads of the company to say to their employees:

"Hey, this year you may not earn as much money because we've decided to listen to the demands of half our gaming audience and make the next GTA a PS3 exclusive. Though you won't have as much money to spend on your necessities, you can take comfort in the fact that PS3 owners will be playing a much larger game. Yay."

Get it? They're in the business of providing a service for money. Why would they try and increase the quality of their service knowing full well that their returns would be roughly half compared to the returns of their previous product?

@11.1

Right, as we all know, the more money you pour into a game in development, the better they are when they come out? That logic is obviously what got R* into this mess in the first place with an underachieving GTA (not to mentioned flawed). Who said that you have to pour obscene amt of money to get quality games? From what I understand, before GTA4 became multiplat, R* was doing quite well with their GTA series before they sold out to that "alleged" 50 mils that MS poured into "game development." Look, R* need to focus on 1 console to maximize that consoles strengths instead of making something half-assed (whether it's on the 360, PS3 or the Wii).

Right because the one open world game exclusive to the PS3 using Blu-ray is sooooo much bigger than GTA IV.. /sarc

InFamous is exclusive and on Blu-ray yet the City is no more bigger than GTA IV. Not to mention the ton of recycled streets and buildings in Infamous.

There are a lot more obstacles to creating a large world than just the space on the disc.

Detail: This was sucker punches 1st go at an open-world game, which is very hard to handle. ROCK* have what...over 5 open world games.

Sukcer Punch did an outstanding job for a 1st try and its even comparable to GTAIV (thats a big compliment)

Rock* have no excuse not to make a bigger world with more space, because they have something that Sucker Punch DIDN'T have, no not SPACE (its important) but more importantly = experience.

^^ Just to be clear that I am in no way saying inFamous is a bad game. It's a great game and I highly recommend it.

But again, experience or not there are many factors in making a huge world. If anyone can do it I believe R* can but this person stating that DVD9 is the big reason for not having the game larger is BS. I just look at a game like Fallout 3 which is bigger than Infamous and GTA combined running just fine on the 360 and wonder how they did that with the tiny little 'ol DVD9.

11.7 - kaveti6616: i dont think gta will or should become a console exclusive,
but your argument is kind of flawed. their making agent a ps3 exclusive. plus the fact that made episodes from liberty stories. their splitting the fanbase in almost half in both cases. like i said i dont think it will happen, but its a crazy world. final fantasy is on the 360.

what hurt gta 4 for me was the lack of exportation san andreas had. i mean i was still finding things to do weeks after i beat the game.

14 - GTAIV just felt tired...
...as the missions had not evolved from GTAIII.

I would love to see more business opportunities in the game like being able to buy up real estate and businesses to take over parts of the city. You pay for police corruption to support your cause. The entire game should be about building your empire and then having to protect it. Imagine then taking that on-line to take out other crime bosses who have done exactly what you have done.

I want to be able to walk into any building and if the door is locked, be able to pick or shoot the lock to gain entry. I would love to be able to pick where my hideouts and safe houses should be and then kit them out to be real bad ass fortresses with multiple escape routes.

Be nice to be able to custom fit out your favorite vehicles which would make them more attractive targets for those trying to take you down.

Better weather effects and natural disasters that might make you change the way you play a mission or series of missions.

17.2 - sorry to offend you but
people who have been here a year or two will know how it used to be....constant unrelenting and overwhelming PS3 bashing on every news item. I always kept the faith in sony and now the tables have turned many of us can't resist gloating.

however i wasn't 360 bashing in my comment above just stating what i consider to be fundamental flaws with what used to be a playstation exclusive. i think GTAiV has many flaws but the main things IMO are uneccessary multiplayer and developing for a weaker console (storage and processing power), also all the M$ exclusive content is bound to piss off loyal playstation owners. IMO this used to be the best game IP out there and it's ruined now. The 360 is a great console in its own right and i sincerely hope you enjoy your experience of it, don't take stuff to heart or assume everyone is the same. just enjoy your 360 while it works lol after all it is the second best console this gen , at least you haven't got stuck with a wii. x

18 - kaveti6616:
They would make almost equally as much as they would had it been multi as they would spend less on multi platform development as they would only have to pay one team and create 1 eengine platform.Plus there would be a much greater amount who would purchase it if it was exclusive, knowing that it would be superior.

Anyone who thinks GTA V won't be in Liberty City has never played GTA 1 GTA 2 GTA 3 GTA 4 enough to acknowledge title location in the GTA series.

Only chance of a new location is if you see a ":" next to "GTA"

GTA: San Andreas
GTA: Vice City

20 - An amazing game
But its the little things that make it great for me, like cars getting out of your way, if your a cop car, having random fights on the street, finding hidden packages {knowing youll have more weapons for you, waiting at your base} more fun items should await those that find the hidden packages, ive had whole game sessions just looking for them,

what im getting at is make some of the more annoying aspects of the game more fun, id start with the whole star rating system, fighting of cops can be annoying, and not a lot of fun, i want to be able to take a rocket launcher out the sun roof and waste them {great in multiplayer} maybe the option to surrender, and then at the last minute un-surrender,or maybe an option to escape from the back of the police car on the way to the station, trying to out run cop dogs would be fun

just give me a fun game rockstar

what besides not existing? How many time can people play this game anyway, because to me the series died with the ps2.

"He seems careful not to include it should be bigger like San Andreas, and include back country like San andreas did."

unfortunately that's not going to happen, but that's what you get with bluray better graphics while taking up more storage space for the same game.

I enjoyed GTAiv I loved the driving physics, I know some found it hard to drive. So maybe have a option from the start game of the game for low physical effect, BUT that would mean that everything else would have to have that change applied physics as well, so I dont think that would be possible?

But keep the driving physics please and maybe speed up the main character, as he was very sluggish to react.

28 - what gta4 needs
it needs everything from sanadreas/vice city and it needs everything from The Warriros game. they need to merge those to games together to make perfection and they also need to add animals and for when you beat the game they should have little easter eggs like if you go into the moutains at a certain time or something you will see big foot, or aliens or just little things like that you can discovere for when you beat the game. It would be epic to be swimming in the water and then a giant whale comes up and smash your boat or something.
