Demigod peak players slips below 1000

Gamer Limit writes "Demigod, the first in the recent wave of DotA inspirations, looks doomed to spiral down the path of extinction. Recent server population statistics show that there rarely are more than a 1000 players online at any given time, and to make matters worse… it's averaging less then 40 games being played at its peak times."

That's a shame. Well, League of Legends is free anyways, so I don't see Demigod competing.

Looks like most of them went to Heroes of Newerth as well.

Battle Forge fell to this sort of thing too. It free now... but still no one is playing it. Also, those that are playing it will murder you without hesitation.

Yea that's the recipe for a failing MMO, in a market full of MMO's it's hard to be in the game.

I think they need to pull a World of Goo promotion if they stand any chance of salvaging this game.

Sometimes a game fails, that's the nature of the business

There are several reasons why this one failed.
1.No easy way for anyone to try it out for the longest time unlike League of Legends or Heroes of Newerth.
2.League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth
3.It didn't have as strong of a launch as it needed to get attention.

5.1 - Not that much of a great game IMO
I had the opportunity to play it a couple of times. Didn't enjoy it very much. Too much confusion and not that much complexity. I would rather play DotA :\

Whether having free competition or not, if it were good, it would be succeeding, but bad games fail. Such is life.

Reasons why it failed:

Number one reason: DotA Elitists constantly bashed the game, pirated it to hell and back.

2. Because of the pirates and Gamestop's early release, the online got screwed over, and then poor reviews came out and they never fixed it when it got patched.

Seriously though, this is just as good as a game as Sins of a Solar Empire. The only difference is that Sins wasn't competing with the worst community in gaming.

Oh ya and another reason.

Lazy Steam users. I'm sorry but it is true. So many people who use Steam don't buy Stardock games like Sins and Demigod because they don't want to download another program. Why would anyone miss IGN's 2008 PC Game of the Year because it wasn't on Steam?

And anyways, Impulse is way better than Steam. It doesn't screw you over when you don't have a connection or if your network won't let Steam use the internet. Impulse doesn't need to be open to play the game. It is the easiest thing to play games on

Seriously though.

I want to congratulate all those idiot pirates who pirated this game.

Here is a PC dev who is trying so hard for PC consumers by condemning DRM and SecuROM and making a bill of rights.

And what do they do? Pirate it so badly, like a 5:1 ratio

Wonderful example for other devs to see. I guess devs will start to think DRM and stuff like that works since this got destroyed

didnt this game have a huge snafu at launch?

and i disagree with you about Steam users not playing games that arent on other DD platforms. unless you have facts to back up your claim, i dont believe that for a second.

I didn't say all Steam users.

I said a lot of them. I always see them asking when Sins is coming out for Steam because they don't want Impulse.

You can get 20% off every single game on Impulse by using the code SURVEY-2009, and a few users said they don't really care because they want all their games on Steam.

Once again, not all users, just some.

I also wish Steam was more like Impulse. I hate Steam whenever I play a game. I love it when I buy one for a good price, but it is just so annoying. Forced updates drive me insane. Needing an internet connection and for Steam needing to be on make me want to break my computer

I wouldn't call myself a "lazy steam user", but I must say that when a game isn't on either D2D, Steam or the Blizzard Store (Blizzard fan), I usually skip the game. I do own a few other games, but I give priority to those available on either 3 of these services. Really, it's more about not forgetting about some games and websites when I buy a new computer or stuff like that.

At a moment, I only had WAR on D2D, completely forgot I even had it, and only found it when I went back for the 5th year anniversary sale. That's pretty much why I try to only use a handful of places to buy my digital copies. But then again, I didn'T know about Impulse, will try it out, as I truly wish to play Sins, but don'T feel like pirating it...

You can't seriously believe that. Every game that is released gets cracked in a few days. DRM in no way helps to solve the problem. The reason this got pirated so badly was because it really wasn't worth the money. People then told their friends this but they still wanted to try it out, so bam, a pirate is born.

I never play these sort of games but always end up kicking myself when their EoL comes early.
