28
200 bucks for home users, 300 bucks just for XP mode and a whopping 319 dollars just for BitLocker drive encryption. Isn't it high time Microsoft dropped the price on Windows 7?

If you are a student and have a .edu email address, you can get Windows 7 (32 bit Home Premium) for $29.99.

Not the stand alone OS, just an upgrade, still frustrating. It should allow you to upgrade your windows vista for less than $10 knowing that windows 7 is what windows Vista "which you already paid for" should have been...

If you order over the phone, you can get Windows 7 Professional Full (32/64 bit) for the same price. It's what I did. Just call the number on the Microsoft Store page (the customer service number), and ask if you can order by phone.

Hey frag, any way you know if they are selling the 64 bit as well for a discounted price?
Edit: Oh wait, just read they both are available when you buy.

"4. Bad economy: In times like these it’s wise to keep prices down. Cash strapped consumers (read: most gamers like us) will be glad of the discount." ... Ever considered Microsoft need a lot of money in the recession? Stupid article I'm sure if they were head of company they'd want as much cash as possible. Every dog and his bone knows that if you want Windows 7 you can get it as cheap as chips if you go through the right channels.

2.2 - Why should they give it to you free?
You got what you paid for, Vista. You still have Vista. Vista still works.
I don't see they should give away their products because everyone whines about a perfectly acceptable OS. When people have problems with Vista, it's usually because their computer sucks...not Vista.

Vista is actually very stable at this point. I use Vista Home Premium and after the service packs started coming the OS really did a turnaround. The initial version was crazy with all of the security crap, but Microsoft did a good job getting that all under control.

XP still running fine here. I've been using the same SP1 OEM disc for going on 7 years or so.
If Windows 7 ever hits a reasonable price, I'll jump on it. But I'm not gonna waste 5 new video games on it.

I always go back to me old love windows xp when In doubt of the new os to come. good 4 u man hanging on to one of the best os ever made.
But windows 7 is like no other to me. its smart, its quick has almost every driver without hassles. the layout takes some times especially from xp to win 7.
For all those on the fence i gotta say windows 7 is very nice. But definitely try it before u install it or use a spare hd and do a clean install.

That was the pre-order offer. So i am not very concerned by complaints about the prices...
i dont wanna see vista or XP anymore. I hope i am right and that all my machines will run better with seven.

Until Microsoft starts refusing to certify drivers for new video cards and other gaming peripherals, causing dodgy performance and lack of hardware support for your games. That day is coming.

Should I get 32-bit or 64-bit? What are the advantages of 64-bit? BTW I have a Asus P6T motherboard (only have 3GB RAM installed on it) and a i7 920. Thanks.

11.1 - Depends
If you're sticking with 3gb of ram, I would stay 32 bit.
If you will be upgrading your ram to 4gb or more I would go 64.
Unless you're obsessed with security then 64 is a must.
But 64 bit uses much more ram than 32 bit, as do all the drivers that run on it.
