Aion headstart event is off to a disastrous start in the eyes of consumers

Gamer Limit writes: "Well, Aion is technically here, and it's not looking good so far. The official forums are flooded with complaints over insanely large queues for an event that was supposed to allow people that pre-ordered the game to play two days early with a pre-registered character.

While this is fairly typical of MMOs (and this isn't even technically a true launch), it seems like NCSoft wasn't able to meet the initial demand despite pre-order and pre-registration statistics. Whether this problem will carry over to launch day come this Tuesday is yet to be seen."

Nar, I'd say it's a case of them not wanting to dump a heap of servers towards it at the start when people leave after a month and everything evens out anyway and then have to remove servers due to people left.

That's what happened to WarHammer, it's not dead just went from 60+ server to around 20 to 25 servers as the demand for 60+ servers just wasn't there.

I have a pre order but havn't used the beta or anything as it won't start up keeps saying a 2nd cleint can't be started.

I'd say the whole game will be a screw up really.

its not an epic fail, WoW has problems all the time due to patches being released i wont go into detail but they happen all the time and WoW is VERY successfull (obviously)

I guess I'm the only one who thought, based on the screens and trailers that this game looks stupid.

1) It's a head start.
2) It's a launch
3.) Once you get past the queue, the game works fine.

exactly. People seem to have forgotten the horrific experience that was WoW's launch, hell even TBC had some issues

Reports said that the 400,000 people preordered this, thus having access to the head start.

Why would anyone expect that the queues wouldn't be massive with the majority of 400,000 people trying to log in at the same time?

They have fewer servers than some games (to prevent server merges after the initial population surge) too.

The queues are bad but I don't think I've ever seen more stable and smooth running servers for a MMO launch.

Just like when the Quake Live beta started, it wasn't uncommon to wait an hour to start playing, then you never wanted to leave. It's on computer! Surf the internet or something for an hour. It'll be okay.
