Football (Soccer) Management Games: What's Their Appeal?

DualShockers writes:
'Probably not the best title for this editorial, I'm actually a fairly big fan of football management games (Because football is football, and American Football really should be called 'Handegg') but I don't know why. You see, in reality I've not little to no interest in football at all, even at a national level, I feel like I'm committing treason if I don't watch the England football team lose for the fiftieth successive time (okay, that's an exaggeration but the point remains)'

I am sort of addicted to CM2010 and I don't really know why. I'm not a huge football fan but there is something about it that brings me back again and again.

Handegg...haha. I always wondered why American Football is even called football at all... *shrug* I'm not that into the sport myself, unless its a Super Bowl party with my friends. Although, I do keep up on LSU wins/losses as far as college football goes, but that's about it.

Maybe because it is the biggest sport and half the world loves it!! Don't play those online games, but Football Manager sure is addicting if you love football.

Actually I might try CM 2010, although since CM4 that I have changed to FM. Is the new CM any good?

What i never understand is how easy it would be to feature the same manager features into fifa and pes , and yet it doesnt truly happens .

Football manager games always try adding a 3d engine that wouldnt be too ugly compared to the usual football games , and so players would look at more than just graphics and number charts .

And of course PES/fifa always add more manager features , but never go as far . What's the hold up ? They already got the better 3d engine and got the licenses as well , it would be very easy to fuse both genre .

Call it biast for playing them on PC for years but a full-out sim on a console just wouldn't feel the same (i'm fully aware the FM series has been out on the PSP ans 360)

It's a little like RTS on consoles it may be done well and with the best intentions and common sense but doesn't feel the same.
