Gabe Newell: Yes, We're Still Working on Half-Life 2: Episode 3

Last night's episode of Gametrailers TV had plenty of information and goodies for Left 4 Dead fans, but what about people who are interested in Valve's other stuff?

GTTV host Geoff Keighley asked fans to send him question for Valve CEO Gabe Newell via Twitter, and one disgruntled fan called the developer out on the long development cycle of the final Half-Life 2 episode: "Are you still even working on Half-Life 2: Episode 3? When can we micro-invest in it through Steam so it will actually come out?"

Laughing, Newell deflected the question, saying that he had nothing to say at the moment about Episode 3, but that Valve would let people know when it did. When Keighley pressed to see if it was still under development, though, Newell (sort of) caved: "Yes, of course we're still doing it."

Please don't mention me. You might get some of your stupid on me.

And I didn't rush to see anything, I was just wondering how many fvcking stories are going to be made out of 1 interview. And the point remains that they are not working on it. If this is all it takes to convince you of something then I have oceanfront property in Nevada I'd like to sell you. It's true, I swear.

And what the hell does even mean, "Jmare stay taking L's lately."?

Really, at this point, you can't say whether or not it will be on 360.

If it's a standalone title, I bet any money that it won't be on 360.

Unless it's part of an Orange-er Box or another compilation of games in a year or two.

Half-Life is a touchy issue.

This final installation of Half-Life 2 has HUGE expectations to live up to. Valve aren't going to show it off til it's good and ready.

Hopefully EA will handle the port again.

I guess it's possible. While an EA port may concern some, based on their Orange Box efforts, they've shown they've improved greatly with PS3 development. A ports going to be better than nothing if you only have a PS3 to play on.

I wonder how they distribute the console version, whether it'll be a £20 disc or a download. Maybe both....

It will likely be in a orange box like edition for consoles. So HL2: Ep 3 alone won't be coming to X360 anytime soon. In a Orange Box pack maybe a year later. Unless the plan for HL EP 3 is to throw alot of stuff in it in the first place to make more sales. They mention do you wanna see Counter Strike 2 or Portal 2. Its very likely one of those two will be in a pack with HL2: Ep 3. I hope for new Counter-Strike. Its been 5 years. Nothing wrong with CS: Source, but it would be nice for something new to come along.

Its possible HL2: Ep 3 could be on a new game engine. Not sure, but definitely a possibility. DirectX 11 is coming by end of 2009 and Source doesn't have DirectX 11 compatibility yet and HL2: EP 3 is coming in 2010 or later so its very possible DirectX 11 will be supported. Maybe Source 2 engine supports it. :) Many claim Source engine is getting old as well. Its about time for new engine.

It's been two years since episode 2. You probably aren't even a fan of Half-Life and you're still impatient.

Surely the whole point of episodic gaming is to have the games released more frequently?

Valve (in my opinion) have missed the point of tbh, yes they've done it right length and price right but not for the releasing of them, there's too much time.

He is right though with what he said about episodic gaming, Siren on PS3 got it sort of right with the releasing of content, just a pity the game wasn't all that great.

Good news I guess as I would rather play HL2: Episode 3 than L4D2.

5 - yay just got a decent new gpu yesterday after my old one broke
Just DL episode 2 yesterday and played through a little bit. Its more half life 2 so I love it. They added some things to the engine taht I can tell, and its still really fun. Its good playing it with 8x AA and 70 FPS.

I dont see why people complain about valve not supporting the PS3. For 60$ I upgraded my 2.4 GHZ single core PC that has only a gig of ram to play Episode 2 with high settings and 8x AA.

I really like the half life games and valve always delivers. Im looking forward to episode 3 and HL3 even more.
