IncGamers: WoW's Faction Change Service

IncGamers takes a look at the proposed upcoming service for World of Warcraft, that will allow players to change faction.

Just how popular is the idea? Will players hand over cash to change sides, or will the service be shunned by people who prefer the role-playing side of the game? WoW player Semiiramiis gives her thoughts on the subject, and why she's got no plans to change.

Still, I kind of think there SHOULD have been a massive quest line, and you just get YOUR char part of the Horde. I think this is silly... :P

Wow (sorry for the pun), I expected to read something really whiny, but it was very good.

I've certainly wished for this in the past, especially when we lose in a BG time and time again.

But could I give up the golden paved streets of Stormwind for the dusty tracks of Orgrimmar, or the dank sewers of the Undercity? I don't think so. Especially if I had to change my actual character.

I assume this change service will be somewhat controlled to prevent everyone from going over to the other side? And how does this work if you have 5 characters on a server?

Interesting thoughts. I suspect a fair few players will mirror them, but many more will just tell them to "lol stfu qq more."

I don't see it as that much of a problem, but I imagine I will if my friends and guildmates start changing faction and I'll suddenly have to if I want to continue playing with them.

"The facet of this game which is supposed to make it more than just a movie, that act of identification with your online self, makes this a difficult idea for me to swallow."

This.

I think that's a good service for those who feel their faction is too underpopulated. Might help even out things, but it represents also an issue if everyone starts siding the other faction, and underpopulates as consequence the other faction.

So I don't quitely have a settled decision whether it is good or bad. I guess all I have to do is wait and watch what happens over time.

However, I wonder if they keep a copy of your former faction in case you decide your decision wasn't a good idea after all.

I hate all these changes. WoW has been destroyed. It's no longer an MMORPG just an MMOQG(Quest Game)

Why role-play when everyone you know could be a different race/faction the next day?

WoW has hardly been destroyed...

People have been saying this every time Blizzard make changes. It was the same with the gender swap ability. Some people will use it, others won't. No biggie.

World of warcraft, is the casual gamer's mmo of choice in the western world. I played from launch until the first expansion was released. It was a hard nut to swallow but I accepted the direction they were taking. Quit for a while and only activated my account once wotlk was released, played the expansion for 9 days and had cleared the current raid content. That for me is not a game I want to play. Blizzard is going to places where I will not follow.

On topic, this is yet another change that will appeal to their casual audience. I personally think it's both stupid and unnecessary but I guess blizzard feels the need to appease the masses in light of their horrible work on the expansions.

10 - Hmmm
Yeah...

I just dunno what to do with you, WoW. Casual players can go suck a peeny, I want to have to put effort into the game. I don't want a free ride, if I want a class that bad, I should be prepared to level it up, instead of just transfer it over from my horde servers.

Sigh.

I know what you mean but i didn't know i was going to get screwed over when i picked Alliance i've been waiting for this after BC came out i started a blood elf i didn't want to start another Warlock because i wanted to try something new, so once i got my hunter blood elf to 70 i kinda stopped playing my Alliance i met a lot more people that play Horde and we all moved to one realm, i kept playing my Horde character after Wotlk came out i leveled my hunter to 80, after i wanted to try a deathknight so i started one and they are both on Horde, than i came back to my Warlock and got him to 80 because i missed my favorite class and they were in opposite factions and i was too lazy to start a new warlock in the other side and i couldn't say bye to my first character so i just kept him there and waited and waited until Blizzard announce faction change.
