zConnection's 100 Games To Play Before You Die: Pt. 10

Connor Beaton writes: "Well this is a surprise for sure: we're only on our tenth article, yet this is the third game developed by Valve Corporation we've featured so far, which stands testament to the great innovation in its games that Valve continues to display in every single release. Portal was initially only released as part of Valve's The Orange Box compilation, which also included Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2, but was released stand-alone on the hugely successful Steam digital delivery service (which Valve also developed). While short, Portal's fantastic puzzles, atmosphere and humour make it a brilliant game regardless."

Is it still against gaming law to say that while you thought Portal was a good enough idea you actually found the game a bit boring and were quite relieved it was short? So you could stop having to watch your other half play the game while Glados made you want to scrape you ears out through the roof of your mouth?

Thought so! In that case-fabulous game, full of ingenuity, who doesn't love the WCC? I loved it too!

I kid, I kid... it's a good game but I don't get why it's achieving almost quasi religious status among both gamers and (esp) games journalists. There have been other puzzlers with as much wit and invention(World of Goo etc)but somehow everyone just loves Portal sooo much. Well, as long as it's something decent they've gone mad for I guess I can't moan.
