id Software's Rage not coming in 2009.

Ve3tro writes: "At the recent DICE event held last month Geoff Keighley asked CEO Todd Hollenshead if id's latest development Rage would release this year. "We will be probably looking at this for next year at least right, not this year?" it was obvious that Todd replied with "No, won't be out this year." while he shook his head.

Some site's are confirming that Todd actually said "No, we'll be out this year.", so with the confusion I gave Geoff a quick message asking which is correct with a response of "It's not coming this year he said."

So there you have it, a 2009 release is false at this time."

3rd party dev/publishers profits more with the PS3 version. I wonder why?

"3rd party dev/publishers profits more with the PS3 version. I wonder why? "

They don't profit more of the PS3, they make more revenue, which is not the same. Maybe it translates to more profit, maybe not, but I heard it was more expensive to develop for on PS3 than on 360, and that's probably true since it requires more skilled programmers and more time to get the same results if not better. But then again, maybe that doesn't apply anymore as the finalized PS3 dev kits have been out there for 2 years if not a little more, so it could mean more profit.

Anyway if you want to know why devs and publishers get more revenue from PS3 titles, then it's simple:

1. Developers can include all SKUs in a single disc (i.e. all languages, and PAL/NTSC) so their costs are significantly reduced.
2. PS3 sells more software in Japan and Continental Europe. Considering that the dollar is weak, a game sale in those territories is worth a lot more than in the USA right now.
3. Perhaps the royalties for PS3 games are cheaper than those for 360 games.

If I wanted to say revenue, I'd say it but I read that publishers have been "profiting" more on the PS3 side. No spin here.

It's an ID game it will be a pretty little tech demo that will run like crap and have absolutely no substance to it whatsoever. I really don't know why people get hyped for ID games. Doesn't anyone learn from history any more ?

Perhaps he is reffrencing the news awhile back that the game had to be changed to accomodate the 360 (thus my earlier comment about not being maximized for PS3)...you can extrapolate from this news that these changes have delayed the game. It really isn't fanboyish to point out a likely reason for the delay is it?

Developers said the game had to be compromised on 360 thanks to DVD9 so I'd blame 360. But then again PS3 is hard to develop for according to them so perhaps both platforms are guilty, or rather, the platform makers made mistakes when making each console.

Not surprised. Takes forever to make games on the ps3. Killzone 2 or GT anyone??? Or how about the GTA4 delay? Confirmed to be because of the ps3. Sucks that us 360 owners need to wait for great multiplatform games because of the mess that is the ps3.

What about Alan Wake? The game to push the 360? lol. You always forget this fact FirstKnight.

Killzone 2 and Alan Wake were both announced E3 2005 and only K2 is out with its promised graphics. Alan Wake seems to take forever to release because it over-promised on graphics it can't deliver IMO.

7.4 - Alan Wake didn't promise much anyway
If you look at the character models of the few screenshots we've seen you'd realize that they don't look better than Uncharted's character models even though Uncharted came out 18 months ago and we saw the PC version of Alan Wake.

I think Xbox 360 fanboys don't have much to look forward to and that's why they have to lash out against PS3 if a multiplatform game gets delayed (even though it was already stated by ID software themselves that DVD9 was destroying the original vision that developers had about 'Rage') because apparently first party games are almost non-existent in their platform, since Microsoft thinks it's a genius idea to dismantle or sell their teams of expert devs.

Correct me if im wrong.
But didn't Microsoft force developers to only use 1 disc for multiplatform games?? Is that why we havent seen any multiplatform games on the 360 with more than one disc?
It seems strange not to add another disc, while paying a small amount of royalty fees, and making the game they want to make.

pixelsword - 284 days 15 hours ago
8 - Probably because they had to reduce it to fit on two discs
which makes Carmacks' remarks the more truthful remarks against Willits remarks to try and cover-up what Carmack said about Id cutting-out stuff to make the game fit on two discs. If they already made that decision, trimming the game should've been a snap, because they would've had a plan in motion because Willits said they already made those plans although Carmack stated otherwise.

I love id games...2010 release worries me a bit because I want Doom 4, and my guess is this means Doom 4 will also take a while. My computer right now is pretty beast, but the longer it takes for a game to release, the less likely my computer will be able to run it.

John Carmack, game programmer and co-founder of id Software, has brought this up many times relating to his upcoming title, Rage. He has stated thatin order to put the game onto the Xbox 360 and have it look identical to the PlayStation 3 version, they would need to put it on about four discs which would cost them a lot in production costs. He also stated thatif Microsoft does not allow for them to put this game on four discs without charging them extra, he will have to compress the game massively to have it fit on two discs degrading the visuals of the game.Developers will adopt Blu-ray because of advantages in size, as well as price. Who would not want to make a larger, cheaper game?
