Numbers support players returning to World of Warcraft

From Massively:

With the recent launch of World of Warcraft's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, industry watchers have been poring over the numbers, trying to see what can be gleaned from the data. With 2.8 million copies sold in the first 24 hours, Blizzard's 800-pound-gorilla continues to break records. Following the flood of numbers, our friends over at GamerDNA have just come out with their own Wrath reports, based on their member data from anywhere between a few days to a few months before Wrath's launch.

As expected, there was an increase in the number of returning players, out to experience all that Wrath has to offer. We admit we're curious about potential skewing of the numbers, though. On the surface, it would be largely what one would expect - Wrath launches, the numbers went up. However, we'd note that they started running a World of Warcraft-themed contest for Razer gear on the 12th, and a SwagDog guild promotion on the 19th that may account for at least a small portion of the metric increase; how much of a difference remains to be seen. Also noted is the number of WoW pages created on their service after the launch of Warhammer Online, which is by itself, a fairly interesting point.

I used to play WoW. I haven't come back yet. Thank god. That life stealing game needs to be put down forever.

I didn't buy wrath for the simple fact that end-game content was completed by the 2nd day it came out. Where's the fun in that?

I returned to WoW after a year long leave, I seriously felt bored of the game and even upon my return it feels slightly boring still (Though I haven't got any of the expansions as of yet either though.) I merely returned only to give me some type of MMO to play, currently waiting for Warhammer to expand, Afraid to go back to FFXI and then not log on for a while only to find my account has been deleted because of Square-Enix's rules.

Overall it's not THAT bad of a game, but I'm glad I only play it at least a few minutes every hour or so unless I really don't have anything to do glad I have that balance and perspective backing up my choice to return.

PS. I also need to hit 60 I never hit it before I left and felt I should at least do that to say I accomplished something, plus I got the prepaid card as a gift might as well use it.

Honestly, Burning Crusade completely redefined WoW in terms of interesting quests and diverse zones. Then Wrath of the Lich King took everything Burning Crusade did and made it feel completely different.

The original WoW was fun four years ago, but now there is really no point in playing if you don't own one or both expansions.

That's what I'm starting to see right now, tried to get my friend to come back to WoW, but he stated he hated it so basically stuck with my two month pre-paid time. I figured I'd might as well use it and get to 30 then stop for the time being. Perhaps it was the Burning Crusade that made him stop and all the time he invested in it, as it seems he has jumped right back to FFXI which is what I am planning to do now. Only thing I dislike is having to pay for the discs all over again. That is essentially why I went back to WoW I found all my discs and was able to get back on since I remembered my account.

Actually it is. When your playing under a time constrait and not playing constantly every day for at least a few days and only logging on in a few intervals. Completing at most just a few quests in a given day while studying and such it is. Sorry to say, but your sarcasm just doesn't match up. Especially on the fact that the other 'pacts' can raid the other side and ambush you while in the middle of trying to level so yes in a sense it is. As your going against the current while playing the game not with it.
