Aliens Game Isn't Cancelled

Late Friday, reports came out of Gearbox Software that several employees had been laid off and their upcoming shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines had been cancelled. Well, it seems the layoffs did happen but the game is still alive.

Agreed, Gearbox makes good stuff. Looking forward to their other 2009 game, Borderlands. That game seems like it'd be more likely to get axed before Aliens, though, seeing as Aliens has the brand name.

Brothers in Arms was garbage. I did see footage of the Aliens game though, and it actually looked next gen. I dont know how they messed up so bad with BIA? Its sad really.

I think the basic strategy core of the game was decent. The lackluster solo and tank missions and the lack of variety in units did hold it back, though.

I'm still concerned for the health of this game. It seems like it's been at the same stage of development for an age-I remember reading way back that it was meant to be released by hallowe'en this year for a start and we don't get anything like an estimated release date now. I'm interested to see whether or not this has moved on any since the showing of stills at E3(when, IIRC, lots of reporters had expected to see a playable build and not stuff they'd seen before)and even then the Gearbox rep was unable to say much about the game. With these job cuts and Borderlands on the list as well it could be a while before we see this even if they do finish it. It would be sad to lose it, mind, as the franchise really deserves a great game and the second film with the Colonial Marines is obviously the best opportunity to do this. I even like the idea of you playing as one of a second squad sent to the Nostromo to investigate the place so fingers crossed. As I say though-big concerns for me.
