7 Reasons Why Crysis Should Come To Consoles

Crysis, that last bastion of PC gaming one might say, a technical tour de force and a brilliant FPS. In these rough times, it definitely occupies a spot of pride on PC gaming's mantelpiece.

PC purists might not think bringing Crysis over to the consoles is the best of ideas. Crysis however needs a much bigger audience to pull it out of the uber PC owning circle of gamers and introduced to a whole new legion of gamers.

Here are 7 reasons why GameGuru.in feels Crysis should come to consoles:

1 - Crysis on the Xbox 360??!!!
Xbox Live is one reason Crysis should be developed for the consoles, that is the Xbox 360... multiplayer would be great.

The PS3 dose not need crysis because it has KILLZONE2.
IMO i think killzone2 graphics are better than crysis.I know i sound crazy but im in the beta and what im seeing is amazing.

But if it dose comes to consoles i will buy both killzone2 and crysis.

If you like LAG, sure...why not put it on Live.

Otherwise, bring that sucker to the PS3!

I've played and beaten it on the PC. I LOVE IT! If the sandbox editor is included on the PS3...we'll have ourselves a second LBP!

Killzone does look crazy good, but there is no comparing it to the PC version of Crysis.

However, the console version of Crysis if it ever comes to pass would probably be trumped by Killzone easy.

1.5 - Crysis? Killzone? NO COMPARISON
You cant compare Crysis and Killzone 2... Killzone 2 will have to be bought to the PC to look half as good as Crysis does! :)

lol you guys are nuts who don't believe Crysis is the most amazing looking game ever...that's the true benchmark of gaming right now. Console only owners really need to see Crysis in person because there's alot that just don't have a clue. And the gameplay was amazing, super-speed, strength, cloaking...it was like being a Predator. You can't really can't hate on the game...I'm in the Killzone beta and I own and beat Crysis and Warhead. I even have saved screenshots of my own gameplay of Crysis on my computer...console wise Killzone owns, but in gaming in general, nothing touches Crysis. Killzone might be breathing on Crysis, but it's not there yet

2 - well not worth the time n money
Crysis might be the benchmark for visual quality at the time of release on PC. But it doesnt have the right gameplay that accommodate with the visual. It may have great visual on PC but gameplay wise is a pretty boring game. I dont feel that its worth coming to console. I rahther spend that $60 else where.

Just buy a cheap PC set Crysis to Low settings and hey presto you are playing the console version (now lets just wait and see all the disagrees mount up).

Didn't Crytek themselves state that the CryEngine 2.0 can run at around High settings on "consoles?"

Source: http://pc.ign.com/articles/...

Granted, that's referencing the engine itself, not necessarily any game in particular, but one can reasonably take it mean that Crysis is thought of as the hypothetical benchmark in mind for how the engine would perform on consoles in an actual in-game situation (being on the sole released game that's ever used that engine, and all). I think that's a fair assumption to make.

The engine can certainly run at high settings on consoles, IF they limit the content to a single 6 sided room and maybe a few triangles for the enemies.
Otherwise, forget it. It's also not worth it, the game is rather dull.

Personally, the PC can keep it. I don't think there's much interest in seeing this (year-old) FPS ported over.

6 - It doesnt need to come to console
it was simply a fun FPS with great graphics, if it didn't have great graphics I wouldn't even remember it.

I own both Crysis games, but I really see no need for this game to come to consoles. Other then pretty graphics it's a pretty standard FPS. Now, an original game in the Crysis series brought over to the Xbox 360 and PS3, that I wouldn't mind too much. The suit powers are kind of neat.

But really, it's just not worth it in my opinion. Graphically, it would loose too much being ported. If you really want achievements, go beg EA to make a patch to turn it into a Games for Windows Live game, see how that works.

If you want to sound like an expert, google some expert terms to throw around. Lens flares are extremely resource-unintensive, and could easily be reproduced on any console in the same quality. Lens blur doesn't even exist, you probably meant motion blur. This is also not THAT demanding on the GPU, though. What really sucks GPU-cycles in Crysis is the lighting and the resulting shadows.

10 - 1 Reason why Crysis should come to consoles
It's Crysis for cryin out loud! Just port it to already! I know porting a game form one format to another has it's risks, but as long as it maintains an acceptable visual quality and the awesomenes of the gameplay, it should work out just fine:D I played through Crysis on my laptop with pretty low settings, and I still think it looked great! I would love to see this one on consoles.

I think the real big hurdle to get this game running on the consoles is their RAM limitations. Both consoles have less the 512 megs available for the game to run (yes, each has 512 megs I know, but some is not available to games due to it being used by the OS of the console. I think both are down quite a bit now thought. 360 uses about 20-30 megs and the PS3 a bit more, but it used to be up to like 70-90 megs while games were running, less now though).

You need memory to store all those textures and other niceties. The PC has room for that, with most users (who have Crysis anyway) have at least 2 gigs of RAM and 256 or more for the video card (more like 512 megs now. Hell, there's 2 gigs in a 4870 X2 and 1 gig in a 280 GTX or some regular 4870s now). This is the big hurdle for this game I think. I'm sure the PS3 has the processing power to handle the physics, and the 360 probably as well, but it's just too limited to be honest without the RAM. And the video chips are pretty weak too on both compared to what is out there in the PC world now.

IF this game does come out and it IS multi-plat.....

If it turns out that it looks better on one console, that console is going to have some major braggin rights, for sure! Because it is in fact the best looking game to date.

13 - are they sure it isn't just for one reason
they want to play it and don't have $800 dollars to spend on a new pc?

Here is a reason that they shouldn't port Crysis. Have you played Farcry 2 yet? It was built with the same Engine, but optimized, so it should run and look better?

I hate to say this, but the game looked like crap compared to Crysis. Yes it is open world, and built to be more of a sandbox, but come on, I was upset when i saw Farcry 2 in action on my machine.

Now hear me out, I think Farcry 2 looks beautiful, and I do own both Xbox 360 and a PS3. But after seeing all 3 machines in action, my pc is more capable, and struggles with Crysis.

Optimizing it for console would be great, but don't expect the same thing.

Uhh, just to point out that Farcry 2 has it's own proprietary engine (Dunia I believe it's called), while Crysis uses the Cryengine2. Both very different (Crytek sold the rights to Ubisoft for FarCry, since they originally designed it be went to EA).

The Dunia engine is similarly demanding, though.

I also think that Dunia has some code from the Farcry 1 engine but not much of it. The only problem I have with Crysis is that the engine was not optimized enough even if you do have a decent computer.
