Blizzard: WoW 2 could kill off franchise

There is "no requirement" to make a sequel to MMORPG phenomenon World of Warcraft, Blizzard has claimed.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com hours before the midnight launch of expansion Wrath of the Lich King at HMV Oxford Street earlier this week, Blizzard executive Paul Sams said the developer will continue to improve World of Warcraft, which currently enjoys a whopping 11 million subscribers, with content updates and expansions "for so long as there's a meaningful number of players that are interested in playing it".

Sams added: "As it relates to other MMOs, time will tell what we're going to do but doing a sequel can help kill off the franchise and so I think we want people to be able to focus on this and again I think that we're going to be able to provide compelling content that's going to definitely feed the needs of players."

Instead of grinding, they could offer a monthly supply of drugs with WOW2 to keept their users addicted.

As long as they keep making patches and expansion packs I see no reason to make a sequel.

This game will probably be played for years to come, and as long as the people playing it are satisfied, there is no reason to make a sequel.

EQ2 really isn't a bad game it's just SOE kind of screwed up in the beginning of the game's life and didn't listen to their customers.

Anyways, WoW will never need a sequel. Just keep releasing expansion packs and graphic updates and it should last well over a decade.

indeed if you just update graphics every few years the life cycle of this thing will be very vast

Who needs a WoW sequel? I say when WoW finally dies off Blizzard should make a Starcraft MMO.

That's when I'll be getting back to paying blizz 15 bucks a month.
