Ah good ole systemrequirementslab doing a good job of getting everything wrong lol. I thought I would give it a whirl and apparently my GPU has 1.5gbs of video ram (it doesn't it only has 320mbs). Still at least they have stopped adding the frequency of cores together to give you a megahertz rating now.
As expected my Q6600 + 8800GTS (320mb version I know it's old but it suffices) passed even the recommended requirements. All I can say about the requirements is this better be one hell of a port. I mean I want to see a hell of a difference between the console version and PC version to justify these requirements.

With my Core 2 Duo e6850 clocked to 3.5GHz, my RAM 4GB clocked to 933MHz, combined with my 9800GTX clocked to 9800GTX+ standard, I can run it easily. No worries here.

1.3 - actually it could be right
but then its usually shared ram, systemrequirementslab checks for the shared ram and the dedicated ram, in my case it says 1.5GB, my laptops specs say 'up to 1.5GB vram with 256 dedicated' so it sounds just about right ;)
AND YAY!!! mine can run it on minimum specs 8)

Can you PC run it better than PS3 and X360?
For me the answer is yes! And my PC cost under $400. Got it on craigslist.

I'm assuming that I'll run it maximum with a SSC eVGA GTX 280 and a E8400 Oc'ed to 3.6ghz on 1920x1200. I hope :|. But it will run like a dream compared to the console versions, that's all that matters. It felt to blurry and clunky on them.

I have a PC so I will be able to run GTA 4 with better graphics and features than your "wonderful" PS3. Let me leave you with this quote from one of the PC previews :-
"After spending a fair bit of time with GTA IV for the PC, we can say there's no doubt it looks absolutely incredible. But it was only just now, going back to the Xbox 360 version for comparison, that we realised how superior it actually is. It's not just sharper and higher resolution textures - it's a more solid, more tangible and vast Liberty City. We're talking leaves on detailed trees that are individually visible, and it's only just now when I turned on the console version for the first time in months that I said to myself: "Wow. This looks dated by comparison".
See where it says "the console version looks dated by comparison.

What's the point of asking a question like that? Most people that have 4GB of RAM know beforehand that they can make use of it. And I'd hardly say it's unfair you can't use the full 4GB of RAM it's a limitation that's been well known for quite some time.

Why splash out on what I am going to assume is a high end PC if you don't know how it works. Also you should be able to recognise 3.5 GB ram, and even if it doesn't show whats left over, I read somewhere that it still helps and 4gb is still better than 3.5gb in a 32bit system

the architecture can't handle over 3GB (probably little more than that) .. so there is no way you can 'make use of the rest' unless you use an architecture that can handle it.. and no it doesn't help, it may see it.. but if it can't handle it, it can't use it.. it's like saying my stomach is 100% full, but it'll help if i had a bit more..

Some people consider PC building a hobby. Those of us that do like to mod things, overclock, and tweak things on our PCs. Don't knock PC gaming or builders because you're not into it. I have an Xbox 360 and a PS3, but I spend the most time on my PC because I find it to be fun to see how far I can push it.
You can easily go buy a prebuilt PC that can run all the games that come out at or near max for a good while (there will always be the random game like Crysis which isn't meant to be played at max upon release). So you would NOT have to get anything in bits or mess about for hours.

Excellent post Ricdeau and sums it up very nicely. I get incredibly annoyed when I see people come in here going "ha ha my console can run this". This is the PC section if you have nothing constructive to say like Ricdeau then go back to your relevant 360/PS3 sections and beat your chests there we don't care for it much in the PC section.
But you definitely deserve to be bubbled up for that comment Ricdeau.

15 - I fail? No you
:) my 4870 e8400 and 2gb ddr3 simply can't handle this game sadly. What a bunch of crap. Although admittedly my RAM is low it should definetely suffice. besides I am adding two more gig soon.
My 4870 apparently has 1.2GB memory *shrug*
Also donnie MOST pc's run better than consoles. You know...the PC's that can be built for £500 and then can do a whole bunch of other functions. While the PS3 is like £400 pounds after you buy half the accessories and a decent controller (which by the way the mouse and keyboard is still vastly superior to for most games)
Enjoy your consoles struggling to run many games at 720p while most PC's can hit 1200p for most games.

it can be done...but the issues is not so much that its impossible, and more as to what will 'fit' in the laptops case...
the general rule of thumb is that it can only be upgraded to whatever other card options ship with your specific laptop...if you have an integrated graphics chip (like an Intel GMA XXX or something), its probably hopeless to try for any dedicated sets...however if you have an Nvidia go card of some sort, and didn't opt for the most powerful gpu available when you purchased the system (or one came available after purchase, yet is for the exact same laptop), chances are you can upgrade to that...
the other shatty part though is that most of the time these cards are built on a proprietary basis for the laptop maker, as they are designed to fit in very tight conditions for that laptop only...they can be based on the normal PCI card's architecture (like a G70, 80, etc.), but are one of a kind for your specific notebook..making them extremely overpriced to replace or upgrade to...
the real rule of thumb...don't buy laptops for gaming...unless of course you go for a seriously overweight alienware or voodoo that uses standard desktop GPUs...

2.4 - Very Nooby Question.
You can scrap EVERYTHING in your laptop and build up from scratch. Anyone who says otherwise just wants you to PAY them to do so----unless its a MAC. Other than RAM and HDD, those arent really upgradable---not easily anyways.
