EA Forcing Good Behavior: Get Banned on their Forum and You're Banned from their Games

Ripten: "A recent post by an EA Community Staff member on the company's Command and Conquer message board outlines changes to their policy, stating their intent to link a gamers forum account to their EA gaming account. Why does this matter? Because EA is planning on banning those who get banned on their forum from their games as well.

The post by the EA Community Staff member can be seen below:"

What a TERRIBLE idea . . . You can get banned from forums all the time for dumb stuff. It's all subjective.

Couldn't agree with you more. I have had my account banned so many times on a sports team forum that I don't even remember what account is active anymore.

Indeed, I can't count the amount of times I've been banned from forums for flaming final fantasy, but I've since learned to control my anonymity. This world is full of people without morals so what EA is doing is a good idea.

I agree. A corporate-owned forum is not exactly unbiased. I've seen forums wherein the poster can face a ban for simply saying something 'anti-(company name here)'. I don't know if this is the way EA does business, but I'm also not willing to chance it. I'd rather be able to post my honest opinions than face a constant fear that they could kill my gaming experience.

Stuff like this makes me think it's a bad idea gaming ever came out of the basement.

As a regular member of the EA command and conquer forums I can tell you that you really have to do/say stupid stuff (repeatedly) to get banned. I think they are doing this as a way to get rid of hackers IMO.

And if they banned everyone that trashed EA on their forums NO ONE would be playing online.

what a nice way to say you know all that cash you pay us to play our games? we dont want it thats really how to run a business.... I really cannot see this happening it would be business suicide there online side of gaming is becoming a huge part of their profits and to ban their members would kill their sales!

Yes! Exactly! If we cant express ourselves and cant complain about the problems in their game, then we dont bother with them.

Yeah, that's what happens when they (EA) become an all out demonizing bastard, corporate, monopoly of a company. They make so much revenue that they have their heads so up their arses they come out and make these pathetic policies!...

Sounds draconian, but whatever.

If people act like idiots on forums they are probably the same squealing pre-pubescent racist homophobic idiots encountered in online games! Kills two birds with one stone.

If they balance it right and people get banned from their forums for behaviour that if taken into an online game would irritate other players, then I'm all for it. I'm impressed with EA as of late, lots of great new IP's and a desire to improve people's playing experience by getting rid of idiots. Its too early to assume they'd ban people for silly reasons, I'm sure they'll get it right.

PS. I don't work for EA and even if I did, I doubt I'd be passionate enough about working there to go post pro EA propaganda on the net :P

I don't know what is more idoitic ea stooping to this new even lower level, or the gamers that actually are in favor of this heavy handed dictatorial mentality.

Once they ban you from their forums, your master account is banned and any games on that account will, permanetly no longer be functional online, until you rebuy those games again.

Okay your wanting human to balance it, right good luck with that all it takes ia a bad at work, fight with the spouse ect, and any sense of balance goes out the window.

Say if you and one of your buddies starts talking politics every game for a while and this has irritated me and others from the get go.

Is it fair then, that since it annoys me and several others you and you buddies accounts are banned and the online portion of any game tied to said account is rendered useless.

What is to keep ea from expanding it past their own forums or even to psn or live? Do the people who have agreed with this action, even have point to which they, i refuse to tolerate this behavoir any further?

Ea was doing alot better this year one the ps3 side, but their killing any goodwill they have left with pc gaming crowd with spores drm/red alerts 3's botched launch and now this bs.

Good. If an EA moderator catches you abusing their TOS, and Bans you great. If that same EA moderator decides to kick you from their games.. great, let them. It's their revenue loss. Besides all you have to do is change your profile I'm sure.

I doubt it will be a perma-ban at the start anyway. More like a suspension. Hell I think Blizz should do this with WoW also. Do something on the forums get suspended/banned depending on what you may or may have not done in the past. They then push that into the game(or vice versa) If you can harass someone in game/forums, whats stops you from going to the other and continuing on? A Ban, that's what.

EA, just make sure that picture up there pops up on the players screen. Humor makes everything better.

You support it now but when you accidentally say or do something that you thought was ok (but was hidden away in the fine print of the TOS) and get banned from your games you'll be screaming lawsuit.

Actually, no I wont be screaming lawsuit. I don't go to EA's forums first of all. And I don't play EA games online very often. And when I do, they are PC games, and I rarely.... rarely "chat". I go to play, not talk.

Hell I played WoW for over 2 years. Started my fair share of drama both in game, and forums. Being suspended or even banned, would have been good. For both the WoW community and myself. I've also heard Xbox Live chatter. If EA could help lessen the kind of senseless, ignorant jerk offs who speak through their ass in some of their games. More power to them. More companies should do things like this. Especially those supporting Xbox Live.

You guys just do not get it. You think it only applies to people who say something really bad and deserve it... That's not the case at all. Maybe you didn't hear about a month or two back people went to their website to complain about the DRM in Spore. EA threatened to ban those people over their legitimate complaints. I cannot believe that any gamer would agree with them on a policy that basically says that you have to love their games while on their site because if you voice your unhappiness about any of the products you PAID for they will just take them away from you. I don't play EA games online. I do not go to their forums either. I just know that it isn't right, even if it doesnt affect me personally. That is one of the biggest problems with the world today. People have no problem watching someone else suffer as long as it isn't them, but then when it is them look around and wonder why nobody is backing them up..

@7.4 Thank you it's nice to see the gaming community isn't entirely stupid, i rarly play pc games anymore, regardless this is not acceptable by any means.

This is no different if activision blocked players from online access because of people complaining about cod4 or guitar hero 3.

Maybe if they(ea) or other corporations start expanding it to live or psn the people around here will open their eyes.

Now EA is the chinese government of video gaming. Say anything against us or something we don't like and you go to prison. Bad policy.

Terrible. I mean how can they ban you from a game that you bought and then not give you your money or anything. I guess this really is only a rental.

10 - This is good news for third party forums....
Once the policy is active everyone will avoid the EA forums like the plague...leaving them to be snapped up by non corporate controlled communities.

I highly doubt you will be banned completely. Maybe from online play, temporarily maybe? I see their current standpoint changing soon. Although, I support EA's decision on this even the way it sits now.
