Alan Wake discussions

Alanwake.com writes

"What platform was used?

The PC. The shots were taken in 1080p resolution (using 4xMSAA) and scaled down to 720p for web release. We are only releasing a few shots, and we wanted these to be usable for print purposes as well, therefore the higher resolution. The game looks very good on Xbox360 too but only runs in 720p.

There's cool Depth-of-Field in the Cabin shot, is this real time?

That shot is from the Cinematic Trailer. We intend to use DOF effects to enhance storytelling in the in-game cinematics, but (at least at the moment) it is done as an offline post process. Otherwise that image is fully rendered by the game engine."

Ok well, link was down and I saw 360 is DX10 ready. That is BS and I would think everyone knows it. I think the submitter should fix it... FUD4G.com

It depends on what they were talking about because the 360 is capable of some DX10 features.

1.5 - POG is right
cause according to ATI the 360 runs an advanced version of DX9.

"Xbox360 cannot run DX10," an ATI spokesperson told 1up. Currently, Microsoft's console runs an advanced version of DirectX 9, which, according to ATI, features "memory export that can enable DX10-class functionality such as stream-out."

Looks good. I wonder how it's going to look on the 360. Far Cry 2 looks way better on the PC than on consoles.

2 - Here some stuff thats in the post
"I was talking to the heads of Krome Studios and the Creative Assembly last night, discussing all sorts of gaming related things. One topic we discussed was the development of products on consoles and PC. From what they said, developing a game for the 360 usually involves development on a PC platform and due to the nature of the 360, a 360 game is naturally suited to DX10 Vista. It's when you attempt to port it over to older versions of Windows, that the problems start and the budget of the game blows out."

From the sounds of it, the only differences between the two versions are that of the initial internet trailer release versions on the Alan Wake site(720p vs 1080p native) which *ANA* will do a dam good gob upconverting anyways, most console games are 720p native, at least the more graphically complex/advanced ones are.

4.1 - Microsoft game studios thanks you.
Thank you for helping them to bring more awesome games to the 360 and PC. Also, have you bought Mass Effect for the PC yet? I would highly recommend it. My favorite RPG in years...of course, I'm on my way to buy Fable 2 so that might change.

6 - DX10/GPU/RAM
I could imagine a platfrom that is not able to use any DX10's features and has poor memory use would not be able to run the game period, 720p native or or not.

8.1 - it's good to see all you PS3 fanboys giving your computer a work out
thank you for supporting Microsoft game studios and helping them provide us with more AAA titles for the 360 and PC.

Too bad Fable 2 isn't coming out on PC. Of course, I have a 360 so it doesn't matter to me.

9 - So its clear the PC version will be the version to get if you dont have a dell that is
I got a high end PC, i worked hard for it, it costs 750.00 ill for sure be playing it at highest resolution available. Generally its 1080, hopefully 2500 x 1600 ! Although I probably need to add another card for that rez!

Cant wait!

Also I wonder if PC version will be compatible with the 360 wireless connector?

9.1 - i don't have a high end gaming PC
I have a laptop like most people in the city. I will be buying this for the 360 but thank you for supporting Microsoft game studios. I can still run WOW and Counterstrike 1.6 as far as PC gaming goes though so that is all that matters to me.

/off to buy Fable 2

10 - Pumpkinpunker ,lol so when PS3 owners want a game on the xbox360 that is on the PC and they say they want it on the PC
you say " thanks for helping MS" ? I don't care about helping any company as long as I play the game. Kinda makes you look like a hypocrite obviously.

ALAN WAKE will be awesome, but these graphics are enhanced, still it will look probaby as good as Gears.

And this is the PC version so now it makes you look worse.

yeh pumpkin punker. I like microsoft, but lay off the thanks for supporting microsoft stuff. Why do you care? If fricken sega all of a sudden (I know it couldnt happen), bought out all the good franchises for sony and microsoft, and made a dreamcast 2. I would buy a dreamcast 2. I dont care about the companies but only the games. In my opinion sony will be having a great fall and early spring with games like resistance, little big planet, fallout 3, god of war 3, killzone 2 etc. So thats where ill be at. If microsoft shows me good games ill be there. Thanks for supporting microsoft? get a life dude. If they arent paying you to say Sh*t like that, then dont.

12 - on topic
this game looks great and they still have plenty of time to make it look sharper. I doubt it'll be anything jaw-dropping on the 360, but from the sounds of its story, it'll still be amazing. Only thing is, it reminds me a bit of alone in the dark. I hope the gameplay steers away from that.

You can get a good gaming rig for under a 1000$ these days. This whole super expensive deal has been spun way out of proportion by console fanboys. You can purchase that, for not only gaming but your basic internet and writing needs as well. These can be easily hooked up to your huge 70inch plasma if you want, and I know a couple friends who have done so. The simple thing is, that the pc version is far more advanced, allowing you to run the game at resolutions and fps, that your xbox 360 cant. Also who said you cant have 5.1 on your comp?. Im not a super big pc fan. But I like being fair to everyones interests, and what you just said was a bunch of pro-console bull.

360 or not, I think this game will look great on all platforms that it's released on. I haven't had a high end gaming PC since 2002 (lmao) so this will do just fine on my 360
