Dead Space: A 15-Hour "Roller Coaster" Ride

"Sometimes, it's all about the pacing. Whether its romance, comedy or horror, the way certain elements are presented can change the entire package. For instance, if you try to pack all of the genre-dependent content into the first hour or final few of a product, it's going to be disappointing.

That's why Dead Space has been created with the intent of being "[...] a roller coaster ride, where you have those horror moments, but you also have those spaces in between to let down your guard. In fact, stopping to take a breath makes it even more impactful the next time we throw an encounter at you, or use a false scare to put you on edge," according to Rich Briggs, producer. He speaks the truth-getting that sense of false security has been my downfall in such recent games as Silent Hill: Homecoming, or even Alone in the Dark. Thinking that things are really okay when they're not, can sometimes be the most horrifying frame of mind."

15 hours with no multiplayer?

This will need to be a very solid game to deserve a purcahse from many people.

I have it preordered, but sounds like this may turn out to be a good rental title...

Um, what else were you expecting from Dead Space? Does every game need a multiplayer mode now? Is 15 hours of gameplay not good enough for a horror game? Why preorder Dead Space if you know nothing about it? Why expect multiplayer when it was never announced? Seriously.

I didn't say that I didn't feel it was worth a purchase for me. Obviously you can't read. I have it preordered. I'm just know that most the people I know will not agree with me on that.

I never expected multiplayer. I was just hoping they might find a way to pump that expected time up with something to add to the replayability. Normally PR people already up the time from what it will take most people. So 15 is probably already an exaggeration.

Bioshock was my Game of the Year last year...

Clearly you like to jump on people with out thinking

If it were too long, rather than being scary it'd get monotonous.

That's probably the best argument for why it should stay on the short end...

I played the E3 version and it is scary, if you do not kill 1 creature, it will follow you relentlessly and pop out at you when you least expect it.
