UK charts (week 40,2008) . FIFA 09 kickstarts Q4

PS3 and X360 fifa sales were neck and neck in last week's UK charts. The wii version howver flopped in sales.

Charttrack reports:-

"42% of sales were on Xbox 360, making it the 3rd fastest selling game on Microsoft's format (behind GTA IV and Halo 3), while 40% of sales were on PS3 where it is the 2nd fastest selling game (behind GTA IV). The PS2 version accounted for 11% of sales and PSP 3%, while Nintendo's formats and PC made up the remainder. "

distribution of Fifa sales were as follows:-
360 - 42%
PS3 - 40%
PS2 - 11%
PSP - 3%
WII/NDS/PC - 4%

Considering the 360 has like a million lead on the PS3 in the UK, that's pretty impressive on the PS3s part.

PS3 version of Fifa 09 will outsell the x360 version 2;1 in europe.

UK is the only region where ps3 hasnt overtaken x360 in LTD sales and the margin is 42:40 OO

Fifa 09 must have sold over 300k in UK since it has become the 2nd most sold game on PS3 there

But imagine Fifa 09 ps3 sales in other parts of europe. I expect the PS2 version to outsell the x360 version in most parts of europe too/PAL region

Considering Konami is making a lot of advertising of PES'09(i.e. just watch any La Liga spanish football match to know what I mean), I foresee many more sales for PES than FIFA.

I'm a HUGE Fifa fan but to be honest, PES is better this season.

Fifa averages 7 million copies sold on all platforms and is pretty much the biggest annual seller in the industry. 09 is also one of the best football game ever made.

40% vs 42% despite having 1m less consoles in UK

Fifa 09 becomes the 2nd biggest selling game on ps3 and 3rd biggest selling on x360 in UK

Now imagine Fifa 09 ps3 sales in Spain/France /italy and germany --regions where ps3 has 1.5x/2x the base as x360 or other parts of europe

I expect Fifa 09 ps3 version to outsell x360 version 2:1 in europe.

i expect PS3 HW sales to jump 2005 for the week

I expect PS2 version of fifa 09 to outsell x360 version in most parts of europe too

I hope you get paid well by Sony. Your viral marketing is pathetic. I used to be a 360 fanboy due to Sony royally pissing me off in the past.

But I grew up and realized it's better to be a gamer than a hater. So I bought all 3 consoles this generation. Just like last generation where I owned all 4 consoles. That way I dont have to choose sides and can have access to all the games I could ever want.

I happen to think the fact that the 360 version of this game sold so well is a good indicator that Microsoft is having success in Europe. The fact that the PS3 version sold so well is an indicator that Sony still has a lot of loyal people to thier brand.

So it's a win win situation for both the 360 and PS3. Not to mention EA.

How come Sonys defense force is always centered around Europe outside of the UK? You know the only places on earth WITH ZERO accurate sales tracking.... oh yea because everywhere that sales are accurately tracked 360 is destroying the ps3. Keep pretending your winning somewhere.

Actually, the sales are accurately tracked (ChartTrack in the UK and Gfk in Europe), but numbers are only periodically released (maybe twice a year). Last time they came out, earlier this year, in most countries, PS3 had exceeded the 360s LTD. Charts always show alot more sales for PS3 games, even multiplatforms.

I said UK can be tracked, it's Europe outside of the UK that can't. Those twice a year "updates" are completely guess work like VGCharts and usually pretty incorrect.

The only accurate sales data we get is Chart Track, Media Create, and NPD.

I thought XBOX 360 UK installed base is greater than PS3. While XBOX 360 get 42% and PS3 get 40%, I don't know how you came to the conclusion XBOX 360 has higher attach rate on FIFA 09.

TBH all this talk about PS3 having a larger base outside of the Uk maybe true but the 360 is the strongest of the two in the top EU market. The UK on its own is the 3rd largest gaming sales nation in the world behind Japan and the US.

For those interested, here are some recent sales in Germany and Spain, which = UK for money spent on video games last year:

Basically, the 360 is trailing easily in Spain and Germany....

And we all know what France is like. So yeah. Basically, the PS3 is still outselling the 360 in Europe as a whole it seems.
