Dead Space Wants Silence to Terrify You

"As we've seen in terrible American remakes of Japanese horror film classics (The Grudge, anyone?), it's obvious that filmmakers always want to use music and sound effects to their advantage when attempting to scare the pants off its audience. However, after such banal usage in 99% of the horror films released throughout the years, it tends to become familiar. When the music swells in a horrifying tidal wave of strings and accompanying instrument, we're all ready to jump in our seats, expecting to be afraid of whatever's coming out onscreen.

The creators of Dead Space are looking to put these tactics to good use, once and for all, throwing in the spice of actual silence to instill fear and to get our blood pumping, rather than forcing music to do the job through the entirety of the game. Ominous music has become an extremely overplayed option and a cop-out when certain games' content isn't chilling enough to carry the fear factor."

I'm not into survival horror most of the time but I think this game has a lot to recommend itself. Offering 140 for the game is quite crazy though, yes, but it's not like their forcing people to pay that.

No way am I paying $150 for a limited edition version, but I'm looking forward to closing myself in a dark room to play through this game nonetheless.

How could you pay 150$ for a game you have never played and an IP you haven't really seen much of yet...

SIREN Blood Curse is the best survival horror game of the year so far, old school and scary as hell, it doesn't rely on sudden sounds like most of today's games...the enemies (shibitos) are there, they are creepy and you are not always carrying a shotgun and shooting the hell out of them or doing finishing combo moves like in other games...in SIREN BC you are just human hence vulnerable...great game!

by the way, the creator of the first Silent Hill is the one behind SIREN BC, he really teaches a couple of lessons to condemned 2, alone in the Dark and the new silen hill game... don't know about dead space but after playing SIREN BC I'll pass on that one

8 - Sounds clever, which makes me nervous.
Every time I hear about some really clever new feature or execution in a game it makes me nervous. Not because I don't think it's an incredible idea, but because I think incredible ideas frequently result in incredible failures. These guys sound like they're going to try and present players with Kubric/Hitchcock quality suspense and horror. That's a really high water mark, and a really long way to fall. Here's hoping for the best in their success.

It's pretty true.

I'd rather watch an incredible failure than a mediocre success...

THIS is a survival horror game. It isn't a shooter disguised as a horror game with a cover system and various amounts of ammo supplied throughout the level. It's actually scary and makes you use your supplies wisely.

Love the sound of that. I pre-ordered from Bestbuy and got The Art of Dead Space book. It was a nice reason to pre-order. I am very excited to get my hands on this title. I don't think that it will disappoint. I am glad to hear that the developers went the the right path with regards to the music as well.
