EA threatens to cancel Spore accounts
47
Eurogamer reports: "EA has threatened to ban the Spore accounts of members discussing DRM issues on the official game forum.
"SecuROM has been discussed and discussed so much and it causes arguments in threads," barked a moderator. "If you want to talk about DRM SecuROM then please use another fan site forum.
"Please do not continue to post these threads or you account may be at risk of banning, which in some cases would mean you would need to buy a new copy to play Spore."

1 - So let me get this straight
the people running a forum are getting annoyed that a topic is getting out of hand, bringing down the overall quality of the forum and leaving no room for discussion, so they decide to threaten anyone that brings such issues up again with a possible ban?
wow...sounds like EVERY FORUM EVER!

Far as i am concerned ban them all, and also make every game carry drm. Far as i can tell it is too early for the so called people buying the game to be whining about 3 installs. Surely they haven't had to reformat 3 times since the game has been released last month. It is either a) They are trying to install it on multiple machines or b) or people are stealing the game.

6.4 - How about slwoing down your computer...
The current class action lawsuit against EA claims the SecuROM remains on the computer, even after uninstalling the game. The claims also state the Spore DRM is impacting the computers performance, even when the game is not being played.
I'm guessing the tools in favor of DRM also like having things like SmitFraud and Virtumonde running on their machines.

pc games are the #1 most pirated form of video game entertainment on the market. they give you 3 attempts at installing the game.
install #1- woot it works(3 hours later pc crashes )
install #2- reinstall game and now works fine
install #3- hey man this game is cool can i try it out.
sure here you go
wow that was cool im going to let my friend try this out
install#4- hey wait why wont you install a 4th time F7CK YOU EA i cant install it more then 3 times f7ck this f7ck you and your games BUT I WILL STILL PLAY THEM EVEN THOUGH I JUST WANT TO COMPLAIN SO I CAN GET MORE FREE INSTALLS AND FEEL SPECIAL BECAUSE I HATE THE GOVERNMENT!!!
ok the deal is get over yourself.
first off if you fail to install it 3 times on your pc your just a f7cking moron and you should go give you pc/mac to a 5 year old because now a days they probably know more about the scary technology box then you do.
secondly if you are willing to take the time to take a picture of the box with receipt and explain in an email to customer service, (that you are a moron, that cant even wipe there own butt let alone install a game on a pc) im 80% sure that they will try and get you another install
GET OVER YOURSELF LEARN TO USE THE TOOLS GIVEN TO YOU AND STOP F7CKING COMPLAINING

I don't think you realise that DRM limits number of machines you can install the game onto, no how many times on one PC. If you read comments for about... three weeks, you probably could read test how this works.
And... I don't think you realise that you're making an idiot of yourself. No offense mate.

7.4 - CRUISE CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike console gamers, PC Gamers update parts of their systems all the time. Sometimes doing so requires you to install part of or all of some software. Now should they be punished because they like to keep their systems up to date? Plus from what i read SecuROM doesn't play nice with some antivirus programs, causes problems with some graphics card drivers and even messes with some peoples ability to do something as simple as burn a CD. If sponsoring something that is essentially an official corporate made virus and giving a big middle finger to PC gamers is what a company considers good business practices then they won't be getting any of my gaming dollars.

The DRM is bad, but not as bad as is being spread by people who have not bought the game, if you read articles of people messing with the DRM, you find it being mucho morte lenient that thought, not good, but not as bad.
And a moderator being fed up with people discussing a topic over and over and over and over and over again, is just normal human reaction.

right here perfect example of miss leading a discussion on a forum
my spelling sucks i know that.
does it make me sound less smart? probably
do i care.
No.
The topic is not English and grammar and who and correctly spell its about the topic of initial discussion
It is people like you thecremeegg that are making the guy at ea and all forum moderators around the world hate there lives.
stick to the topics at hand and shove you proper grammar up your own pirate blowhole.

10.1 - Yeah, your spelling makes you look dumb.
Also has me pretty sure you don't quite grasp the entire situation. Dumb people are like that though--only have a tiny bit of knowledge and proud to show the world how little they really know.
My advice for you--stop playing games and stay in school. But it is most likely too late for you... Oh well, the world needs ditch diggers too!

There should be some sort of legal action they could take if EA cancels their game account. Especially if they didn't violate anything. If you payed for the game they can't just do that without justification. What's funny in all this is that it took me only 2 minutes to find places where I can get the pirated version. So what's the point in putting the people who bought the game through all this?

11.2 - Like an article a while ago said
Why should he pay for an inferior version of the game? If he knows he can get the same game without software that messes with your computer, why the hell shouldn't he?
It's not people like him that make DRM necessary. It's DRM and an abundance of crappy games that makes wide spread pirating necessary.

11.3 - @11.1
I never said that I download or play pirated games. I only rarely play PC games. Sacred was the last game I played on PC and I paid for it. Diablo 3 will be the next I play and I will pay for that. I gave the statement as an example of how ineffective the DRM is yet it causes so much trouble for the people who paid for the game.

IF you have to update your system via hardware installs, and thus you only can download a limited amount of times..... doesn't this create a lawsuit?
Why doesn't anyone try suing when there's actually some sensible concrete stuff there.

17 - After reading all this
I have to sincerely say that IF I actually wanted to play Spore (and I may in the future) I really would go for a pirated version, just because of the fact that as a consumer I can not accept additional content(DRM) interfering with overall performance, if in fact this is a legitimate issue. That and EA are pricks.

18 - Request to EA
Please stop making and selling PC games. I'm tired of hearing gamers whine about DRM and publishers/developers whine about Piracy. Stick to consoles, and if you really feel like publishing for PC, release a couple years after you've made your money on consoles.
