A black hole is created when stars implode, which they can't, and are not trying to simulate.

but a star can implode under the pull of its on gravitational pull which is only strong enough to do this when the star reaches a certain size. At this size (called the Chandrasekhar limit) a number of things can happen but one of which is it can implode. I read about in Stephen Hawkins "A breif history of time".

Check just the intro on supernovae on wikipedia.
