Pure Looking Better than MotorStorm 2

remember seeing the same comments regarding dirt vs motorstorm 1.. and we all know how that turned out..

pure does not have split screen and as much interaction with gaming objects.. how many vehicles and how big the tracks are in pure? in motorstorm one the tracks were massive - not just length but breadth also..

i will reserve all judgement until i get a closer look at motorstorm. I played the original the other day and it still looks fantastic. I have a hard time believing that MS2 wont be a great improvement upon the first.

Pure is a "pure" arcade racer on ATV's while pulling off tricks to build your meter to pull off more tricks. There is no depth to it. I would never pay full price for a game that shallow. I might pick it up when it drops in price or from an online auction if the price is right.

I will enjoy Pure but I really wonder if it will be better than Motorstorm... and just a suggestion please quit using MS for Motorstorm... MS (Microsoft) has been using that a whole lot longer than Motorstorm could ever.

I persoanlly believe the depth of Motorstorm 2 will definitely be a better all around game than Pure will be but the old ATV off road Fury in me says I need to get this game. :P

yeah people...this was written when the only shown version of Motorstorm 2 was from Sony's Gamer Day...in which people were pretty underwhelmed, and a lot questioned if it would even release this fall...

Then E3...which was July...it clearly illustrated that its the off road racing game to beat visually...Pure looks good, don't get me wrong...but watch up to date videos of both...and you'll see how far Motorstrom 2 has come since June...

I agree. Motorstorm is just a different game. I have Dirt and Sega Ralley. But as soon as you fire up Motorstorm you feel something else. No game gets even close. Its not just another off road game. Physics and destruction are major points in Motorstorm, so are vehicles, and the balance between those e.g. light vehicles ride high up tracks, heavy vehicles drive on muddy roads low down. If a truck hits your bike (or ATV) you can start praying. Adds a complete new level of challenge to the game when you try to win a mixed race with an ATV against a truck. I don't see how Pure can be even compared, except the ATVs might look pretty.

Because Motorstorm 1 was actually a good and very polished game. Though missing some features like Splitscreen and other issues like needing more track variety.

Now MS2 brings the best of MS1, and more. More tracks, 4 player splitscreen, more environment interactions, different strategies with boosting, more vibrant and polished graphics, and MONSTER TRUCKS that could oblierate anything in it's path.

Even if this game was multiplatform, it would still be good. But being a PS3 exclusive just means it's polished to a mirror shine.

If you weren't so biased, you would see that.

To me Motorstorm was a 7/10. It was enjoyable but the steering was too sluggish and your vehicle exploded too easily.

How can you know that Pure isn't as polished as Motorstorm 2 when you haven't played any of them? If anyone is biased it is you. I'm just saying we'll have to wait and see. Until then it's just meaningless speculation.

yeah Motorstorm 1 was not perfect...but sluggish steering jenzo?...maybe the mud and dirt had something to do with that...

the gameplay of motorstorm is still way ahead of the pack...it was the delivery of the content that pulled the game down to a merely acceptable level...no split screen...a very weak single player layout (not gameplay wise, but the ticket system instead of a real 'campaign' was pretty broken)...

but the track where great...some say it didn't have enough of them, which is arguable...but the tracks were MASSIVE, each with at least 4 entirely independent routes depending on your vehicle type, some with significantly more...not to mention the game shipped with some of the best online racing in the industry...

and that is aside from the visuals...motorstorm 1 is still unmatched in terms of graphics...the physics based explosions with hundreds of parts on screen...the layer manipulation for crusted mud, that had actual geometry (you could feel the car pulling differently through ruts made in real time)...on a technical scale, the game was nearly flawless...the lighting, the physics, and the textures were all top tier...and Pacific Rift looks to be the first title to bump it off the throne...

I should just stick the word "opinion" in my comments from this time onwards. I'm a PS3-only owner and yes, I prefer Motorstorm2 over PURE and I will never ever buy PURE! the reason is simple; even in Motorstorm, I hate the ATV and PURE only has ATV! see? even in terms of contents being offered by both, I think Motorstorm wins hands down! PURE has a lot more tracks but probably will be a single route per track! Motorstorm2 will have 12 tracks if I'm not mistaken but this is motorstorm, where there is no exclusive route for a single tracks! your vehicle determined your best/safest/fastest route and that is what I love about Motorstorm!

What we've seen for pure are only acrobatic screenshot and that gorgeous background! so, what good is a gorgeous background to a game if it will remains as a background? but Motorstorm is different because your vehicles will actually 'interract' with the environment in various ways like you can use the water ways to cool down your booster faster and if you're driving close to larva pools, your booster will heat up fast! not to mention the terrains which will effect your driving based on what vehicles are you on! these kinds of 'interractivity' is what made Motorstorm so great and Motorstorm2 will enhance them and bring the off-road racing to a new level - not just bumpy rides and jumping cliffs!

Motorstorm2 is offering the diversity never before seen in any racing game to date! Motorstorm2 FTW!!

@jenzo: Motorstorm control is spot-on! hell I even enjoyed the SIXAXIS steering very much and I LOVE IT!

Anyways, getting back to the topic at hand, I'm not sold at all on Pure. The vehicle models look a little rough around the edges if you ask me. The one thing that is so awesome about Motorstorm is the way there are 100 parts that come flying off your vehicle.

Motorstorm 2 also has a lot more settings, snowy, desert, tropical, volcano, etc. Your just not d!ckin around in a forest.

Blue Ray can only improve gameplay time. Not GFX.

GFX depends ONLY from GPU and CPU. PS3 has last gen GPU. Cell to complex to help GPU in every game. we will see only 3 or 4 games on PS3 which will use full PS3 potential.

PS3 has less GPU RAM available and weaker GPU. And cost 5 times more money to develop.

The RSX has access to 512mb of memory; half of which is a 3.2ghz XDR memory.
The RSX is more powerful than Xenos but less flexible and efficient. Blu-Ray CAN affect graphics because you can store lots of high-res textures without worrying about space.

- RSX is custom-built for the PS3, there is no "last-gen" in terms of it's existence, you would have to look at it's performance, which would be difficult because...

- The Cell Processor works in tandem with RSX, which give it graphical capabilities beyond what the 360 can do, plus improves it's overall rendering quality because not everything has to be rendered on the RSX, which frees-up memory and resources on the RSX

- BD, in it's own way, can improve graphical quality. BD's can hold more High-Resolution textures, which *wait for it* allows the console to display them because they can actually fit on the disc. So yeah, if the textures can't fit because of size restrictions, then it doesn't matter what the console can or can't do (ask John Carmack, who said the PS3 version or RAGE will look better if MS doesn't fork over the cash to put it on another disc).

The Devs who made CoD4, Lair, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, and other games didn't seem to have a problem. Also, with more experience of people who had troubles making games their experience will allow them to improve games far beyond what the 360 can do.

RSX is custom built for ps3. Sony were hyping cell so much and thought that they woudn't need a dedicated gpu as cell would do the rendering as well. Turns out 6months before the launch they coudn't render $hit so went to nvidia as MS had already ATI for 360, and asked them to give them a gpu. SO nvidia at that time having 7xxx series hastly made a 7800 kind of gpu and gave them to sony. Since cell is totaly different than the x86 architecture so that gpu has lot of issues with the cell. And here we are having 3 generations ahead in pc cards from nvidia. END OF STORY..
