Alan Wake Confirmed For TGS

An official Microsoft promotion page for Windows Vista has revealed that Alan Wake will be present at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show.

"To celebrate the launch of their new operating system, Microsoft is offering one lucky winner the opportunity to be digitally made-over and inserted (virtually of course) into a blockbuster game! Simply watch the Vista gaming demo and you could appear in the latest Remedy blockbuster, Alan Wake, a psychological action thriller with an intense cinematic look. Let the games begin with a trip to Finland to be digitally mastered into Alan Wake's world, then jet off to Tokyo to the 2008 Tokyo Games Show to be on the scene and on the screen!"

They'd be interested if it was a survival horror in Japan, but this game takes place in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.

If you ask a Japanese where is Seattle they'd be like "SEE-WAH!?"

Chad Warden loves to do pullups hanging from sony's b@lls

Is E3 only for america? the answer is NO, press from all over the world go to E3, the same applies for TGS.

1.9 - You're right!
The only things Japanese people care about is spikey-haired, metrosexual, pedophile protagonists with girly voices and horrible dialogue. Well, that or dating simulators because they're too sad to have a real life and a real girlfriend (like the majority of N4G).

@Chad Warden

Com on Chad.
Max Payne was absolutely AAA.
And Alan Wake is looking awesome. Of course we have only seen it on PC, so we don't really know how good it will look on 360.

Gears 2 and Alan Wake are the only two games that have kept my 360 alive.

BTW when is TGS?

Well they're spreading out the game information. I mean, E3 was awful by all companies, however I think MS had the best of the three. TGS and E3 are the main gaming events and I think that it's wise not to put all your eggs in one basket.

Say goodbye to those bubbles, jade.

Also, good to see Wake is still alive-- I'll be watching this one and probably getting it when I get a 360 again a little down the road.

EDIT: Wow, didn't see this was so old.. Still, I hope it shows up, although my doubt is gaining momentum.

Well, it's about time Alan Wake has surfaced, but I'm afraid one of the only games that will matter at the Tokyo Game Show is FFXIII, possibly Team ICO's new game, and other games by Japanese studios. Japanese developed games will be getting the spotlight at TGS from Japanese gamers, Alan Wake should have been at E3.

not to show that at E3 and decide to show it at the Tokyo Game Show. It's going to be ignored by the local press there.

those guys should have shown it to a western audience where it is most appealing, TGS is a plays for Japanese developers and co to show off mostly RPGS and anime and all that, Microsoft made a mistake because the other games that will be shown will completely overshadow it :/ im a PS3 fanboy and i was actually interested in this game..

17 - Actually this Microsoft is starting to wise up a bit
Microsoft is actually finally coming out of their Idea that they are Gods of Gaming and tech and expect all gamers to kneel before them regardless of the hundreds of crap games that grace my Xbox 360 and resurrection of burn out sequels............

They are actually competing and making smart, business decisions.

Sony obviously is holding out on all their big gun exclusives til the bitter end which is not a bad move; considering Microsoft threw everything out on the table and then some only to find out that most their attacks only put a scratch on Sony while they securely hide in their bunkers for the right moment........

I am sure even Sony is taken back by the 180 degree marketing turn Microsoft has initiated since E3......

However, I believe for Microsoft that its too little to late but Microsoft has it right here. Japanese love Survival horror (or horror in general) and Microsoft finally realize that Sony has been in their bunkers waiting with all their Massive Weapons of Destruction that are their Exclusive Games (that take PS3 and gaming to the next level).

Microsoft needs to defend themselves and so Halo 4, Gears of War2, and Alan Wake are their defense. I believe Microsoft will probably bunker down themselves a little and we won't see much from them this year. However, Sony has the momentum this year and still hasn't unleashed their really good stuff yet to the public which will be next year.

Sony has put themselves in a good position. Despite Microsoft's big 3 to 5 really good titles for 2009 that could go head to head with Sony, more than likely, Sony will be able to hold their momentum thru 2009. Then if and that is a BIG IF, Microsoft can Slow the Juggernaut down. Sony still has room on the HARDWARE side to play around:

(such as a Slim down PS3 with perhaps upgraded components such as UltraWideBand (UWB) Bluetooth and USB 3.0)

that would improve functionlity of the PS3 without changing the architecture. Heck, Sony could even add more memory and change the RSX to accept GDDR5 memory (effectively increasing the Bandwidth even if it stays at the Same amount of Memory: See AMD/ATI strategy for details as to why this works) and still would improve how the PS3 works without significantly changing the entire architecture and render any attempt at Microsoft coming out with a new system useless - especially if Sony also drops the price $100 too .....

Heck, if Microsoft is feeling the heat and is coming in a strong 3rd place more and likely they will come out with a new Xbox Christmas 2010; 4 years after the Xbox 360 and just use the excuse that this was planned from the beginning (same length of time the original Xbox was on the market)

Microsoft is doing the right thing here but not sure they can dig themselves out of the whole, this round even with the Mighty Xbox 360.....

19 - The 360 is for a niche crown in Japan
Alan Wake will be their kind of game, I mean they like games like Silent Hill, Resident evil why not showcase AW over there? Also TGS is for Asia not just japan, and outside of Japan specifically in Korea the 360 is the number 2 gaming system right behind the PC over there. Once again it only appeals to a niche crowd, but to the guys over there who are former pc gamers, or don't have enough bread to keep up with their pc gaming buddies the 360 is a nice alternative.

I want to see some gameplay footage and hear possibly a release date. If the Japanese don't care about great video games then that is their cultural problem.
