Nvidia Jumps to DirectX11, PhysX Overwrites 3DMark Vantage Files

Nvidia seems to finally give us an answer to whether it will make its next generation graphics cards DirectX 10.1 ready or not. The company simply says no to this only because it plans to
jump over ATI's DirectX 10.1 and go straight to DirectX 11. Also, its latest PhysX drivers, believed to cheat on 3DMark Vantage results, seem to be overwriting DLLs on the same test.

good move, 10.1 isnt really that big of a jump, skipping out 10.1 and go straight to DX11 is a smart move. No need to waste resource for development on DX10.1

PC hardware evolution is advancing faster than the development community is, and also, the consumer-base. You may be able to move to DirectX11 but nobody has the runtimes for it nor are developing game for it.

1.2 - this is silly
there are hardly any DX10 games yet. It now takes longer for a dev team to make a game than it does MS to redo their API. I say the game dev's stop the BS and go back to OpenGL. At least in OGL, XYZ makes sence...dang.

This is getting abit sad... Buyin a graphics card recently is such a problem... You buy one with DirectX10.1 then one week later 11 is out? No wonder the console market has so many gamers running too it... Creat something worth getting that benefits the public for a change... Dx11 will probally support pubic hair rendering :P LOL At least let people start adopting 10 before jumping for 11...

dx10 cards will be cheaper, then dx11 cards. I know because I bought dx9 cards, when dx10 cards were becoming the new thing to have.

2.2 - No game requires 10 yet
Everyone is fine. I upgraded to a 10.1 card only for more power. I still play everything in DX9.

I think this sucks I just bought a Radeon 4870 and I thought it would last me 3 years for PC gaming and now I hear that DX11 comes out next year.

3.1 - Any electronic for that matter
Anything PC, only is good for a few months. Spend $4,000 this month on a top of the line PC, I can get it at half price within a few months time. Because by then, something better has just became available on the market.

Your 4870 will last you a long time. Just because newer technology releases doesn't mean your 4870 suddenly becomes crap.

And they wonder why PC gaming is steadily losing steam. This is crazy. No one is fully using DX10 yet and they are moving on to another architecture? What's the point?

directx 10 sucks thats why. I would say the same for 11 but maybe, i doubt it, but maybe will be good.

Developers just need to stick with OpenGL. If voodoo was still around Glide was the best, and could still be if more developers/card manufactures would support it. But it's been a while since then, when glide was king.

OpenGL is so much more versatile that DX will ever be, it's just harder to program. On the plus side, it requires a lot less memory overhead.

5.1 - i personally found
GL to be faster at rendering the same number of triangles (compared to DX 9), easier to use, and offered more freedom. I HATED programming using DX. Its just lame. OGL FTW.

6 - Any games made for dx11
will still run on dx10. no dev will make a dx11 only game for a very long time. I'm willing to bet that dx11 will just be an extension of dx10. of course dx9 support will probably die off when dx11 hits or when the next xbox hits. I'm not worried about dx11.

zayne: "You buy one with DirectX10.1 then one week later 11 is out?". No they don't make a new version of dx every week. LOL you ever hear of backwards compatabilty?

M$ is really smart. They just rebranded DX 10.2 as DX 11 and everyone thinks they brought a new revolution..

7.2 - i dont doubt
nVidia has a hand in this decision to launch 11 so early. As right now they refused 10.1 and now will look like the future by supporting 10.2..er..i mean, "11". LOL. nVidia + MS + intel = shady for the moment.
