Pedophile Uses World of WarCraft to Meet Girls

An Australian man was arrested recently after he convinced a 15-year-old girl he met while playing World of WarCraft to run away from home to be with him. He even paid for the trip. How sweet.

The 31-year-old Anthony Taylor formed a relationship with the less-than-half-his-age girl, which eventually led to sexual messages and phone calls. The girl's father found out about the relationship and threatened to kill Anthony, so Anthony did what any self-respecting pedophile would do - he sent her a plane ticket and some money to cover the cab fare.

I agree. Our pedophile laws need to be relooked at. I can understand pedophillic acts are atrocious when it comes to really young children, but 15-17 year old? Considering that used be a marrying age in the earlier parts of this century and legal elsewhere in the world still to this day... I wonder why it was implemented? but you never thought about (or did) hook up with 17 year old girls (not because they were 17, just because they were hot) when you were in your late teens/early 20s? If you ask me, the problem with the whole pedophile thing is the conservative/holier-than-thou nature of the US. The rest of the civilized world has reasonable limits set for "statutory rape". The whole family-first, girls are innocent and naive and have to be protected faction.

The whole mandatory minimums with respect to statutory rape is ridiculous in my mind (especially with the bar set so high compared to the rest of the civilized world - France, Germany, Spain, Sweeden, United Kingdom, etc. - basically everywhere). Sure, there should be some penalties in extreme cases where predation is actually proven but in most cases there should definetely be a measure of leniency given to the defendant. It should not just be, "oh you had sex with a minor, you have to serve __ years, no questions asked".

Prepubescent is an adjective of the word prepubertal. It directly corresponds to the word prepuberty. Prepuberty is a period of development immediately preceding puberty (14 for boys and 12 for girls). So any girl over the age of 12 is fair game to you?

Now let's take a look at the very meaning of the word child. Merriam-Webster states all the obvious definitions, but 2 caught my eye. 3a - a person not of age and, 5 - one strongly influenced by another or by a PLACE, or by state of affairs. And according to the AMA and WHO, a pedophile is "generally" used to describe those accused or convicted of child sexual abuse under the sociolegal definition of a child (quoted exactly from Wiki no less lol). The girl in question resides in Illinois, and as an American citizen, is subject to US law. Until politicians change the laws, she is a minor until she reaches the age of consent, 18.

Ok, so let's see. It starts as early as age 12, but doesn't end until societal factors (i.e. governments) deem children adults. Therefore, in the US, the term prepubscent categorizes any female child between the ages of 12-18. He's 31 and an adult, she's 15 and mentally immature. HE'S A FRIGGIN PEDOPHILE. It's not loosely thrown around by all people, it's just casually dismissed by the ignorant ones.

He should have aimed for 16 year oldies :P... Well at least in Argentina peophilia is aplicable until the girl turns 16, after that you can have sexual encounter but you cannot live with her (unless you get married) until she is 18.

Guy uses Wow to hook up with kids? HAHAHAHA. Maybe some of those parents out there should try some parenting. Youknow, just the usually talks---no drinking, no drugs, no running off with strange males(no matter what age) that you meet online. I havent heard of this being a common thing on WoW. Usually I hear about the "pervo's" going after the kids on Mayspace.

EDIT: Not saying EVERY parent out there is a bad parent. But I am saying some parents need to do a better job. I know a couple that lets their 15 yr old stay out as late as she wants, she has pictures on her myspace that put most Maxim Models to shame, she has the whole "no one comes in my room" thing going on, and she wears "hooker uniforms". They came to me for help and were TOTALLY shocked when she got preggers by a 28yr old with no job. I told them I was sorry but it was just a matter of time. She was a party-whore too. I feel bad defending the paedophile but what the hell...

I didn't know it was against the law to date 15 year olds? sex is off the table but dating?
At the end of a day a 15 year old is smart enough to make her own mind up. She chose to go, she wasn't forced.
He could really only be sentenced for convincing an under-age woman to leave her home. And I highly doubt that's a real crime.
7 months is too long IMO.

And finally to prove I don't take the side of paedophiles...He seems like a threat if he's tried this before and for encouraging an undrage woman to leave her home he probably should get his head checked out.
