Wow has gotten 10 million people to pay 15 bucks a month for it. Halo can.t do that. Metal Gear can't do that. Gears can't do that. GTA can't do that. And Blizzard is definitely one of, if not the, greatest developer ever. Their games have quality. If they don't, then they cancel it. Look at Starcraft Ghost. To sum that all up, this guys an idiot and needs his first amendment rights taken away, until he earns them back.

He's mad because people are stupid. Blaming Blizzard because kids are failing school and other crap happening is just ignorant. This is just the same as blaming GTA for every shooting out there. He's just focusing on the bad press that WoW gets but I'm sure WoW brings a lot of people together as well. Really though I think this guy is just jealous that he isn't on the WoW developers payroll.

In what way is the gaming world in a "poor state"? Creatively, 2007 was arguably the best year so far for interactive entertainment, and I'm sure MGS4 fans would assert that 2008 hasn't been too bad so far either. Financially, the industry is more healthy than ever.

Moreover, the writer doesn't back up his presumptions about the social effects of WoW with any evidence whatsoever. So overall... WTF?

I don't agree with him that Blizzard produces mostly mediocre games.... Warcraft 1-3 were "good" Diablo was "amazing" and Starcraft was "good fun" IMO anyways.

But I do agree with him that there are a lot of people who take WoW way to seriously and spend WAY too much time on it. Especially if they are older gamers like myself who have jobs and families that NEED TO TAKE PRIORITY. However, these people who do have problems are the minority (I hope) but that fact still remains that there are enough of them to have caused problems and issues regarding being addicted to WoW.

Anyone who doesn't want to admit that, is probably addicted to the game themselves, and the first things addicts do, is DENY they have a problem.

WoW and Blizzard, put gaming into the main stream, it gave PC gaming a new world stage that people had never known, it opened the eyes of many corporations, and the movie industry to finally show that a lot of people (not just KIDS) play games. And it gave PC Gaming a major shot in the arm so to speak, that it really required...this is all GOOD for gaming and PC gaming in general.

So in short does Blizzard make crappy games... NO, are Blizzards games addicting at times... YES. Do some gamers out there put GAMING first, ahead of EVERYTHING else in their lives? YES.... is that a problem... (for those people and their families...) YES!

If u want a real MMO i highly suggest CCP's EVE ONLINE
1 SERVER WITH OVER 200,000 players on simultaneously not 10 million fractured players on shards guessing where ur friends are and battlegrounds which in my opinion is a joke of pvp. Dont get me wrong blizzard are great dev's and diablo 3 FTW is gonna be amazing but WOW is meh .... when it comes to mmo's. Everquest and EVE are where its at. Fleet up and find out what happens when my Officer equipped Navy issue raven sends some torps your way. :)

Do your homework, kid. Blizzard is one of the most rock-solid developers in the business. They have a great reputation for making quality.

...and if EVE or EQ were so much "better than WoW", why do they have downright horrible subscription numbers compared to WoW?

I've played wow for 2.5 years now. I recently quit when I got my ps3. So I've experienced pretty much every aspect of the game, so this is my 'informed' opinion.

Wow is a great game yes. The scope of the game is huge, parts of it are very fun and blizzard have done a great job developing wow. However, I believe they have goten lazy now. They see how successful they are now and know that they won't have to produce much to keep that 10 mil player base. They have done a lot of stupid things to the game. Class balancing, pvp balancing, bringing out patches very late, not listening to it's player base, and don't even get me started on arena.

I've become very sick and tired of their crap and will not put up with it anymore. Blizzard take way too long to fix anything in their game when it gets reported broken, and when they finally do, it's usually a half fix.

Yes they created an amazing game back when it was first released, and it still is very amazing, but I see s many game problems and design flaws in the game now. Blizzard have now become big, fat and bloated. They don't make decisions based on their game now or their customers, they base it on 'will it get us more money'.

That's fine if you disagree with me, but if you haven't actually played the game for a good while I will assume you don't really know.

Blizzard is one of the best developers and there is nothing you can do about it, I played WoW and I got VERY addicted, had IRL problems, had to make decision and then I quit WoW. I never blamed Blizzard or the game it was my own fault and I cant blame others for it, I lacked will power and I paid for it. Now I learned on my mistakes and taking it easy in AOC, so far I manage to control my self.

Some things in WoW are very annoying, to much time needed for everything so when you feel like the game is forcing you to spend more time than you have you should definitely think about changing your goals in game or just quit.

What the guy says about diablo is just stupid, if you dont like some game or cant get into it then dont start talking crap or saying the game is brainwashing. Diablo was great game I completed both many times. I still remember playing Diablo 1 on ps1 with my brother, we gone throe the whole game around 5 times. played warcraft 2( i think it was 2) on ps1 LOTS. then enjoyed warcraft 3 with all expansions.
even thought I didnt get into starcraft-online that much I still enjoyed the campaign and some skirmishes.

Anyway the guy is just envious with Blizzards success, guess the diablo 3's announcement drove him to hating rant.
