We'll Have To Wait For More Assassin's Creed

In a new article lauding what it calls Ubisoft's "ascent" as it contends for third place (behind Electronic Arts and Activision) in the industry, Forbes heard from Ubi's North American president, Laurent Detoc, on its strategy for spacing the Prince of Persia games.

As the article points out, Ubi's first franchise re-up happened in 2003, followed by two more titles back-to-back. And then three years of radio silence. Why?

The publisher's doing well enough now financially, the article explains, that it doesn't have to rush out franchise follow-ups and can afford to cool its heels a bit in between to spur demand. Detoc also told Forbes that they can afford to whet your appetite for the next Assassin's Creed by making you wait:

"When we bring it back, there will be more anticipation for it," Detoc says.

Agreed.

I know people were mad at this game. And It's not become one of the 'greats' but it was nowhere near as bad as people liked to shout about.

And the story was intriguing enoguh to make me beg for a second, especially if they have some Euphoria goodness, and improved/streamlined mechanics.

I'm willing to wait a long long long time for a follow up to that turd of a game. It was the biggest gaming disappointment of the year for me.

6 - Take your time
Ubi, there's no need to go the EA route and put out a new game in a franchise each year. Take your time with ass creed 2 to have a more verbose selection of side missions and make the desmond parts better.

Making yearly sequels lead to a fierce deadline, which leads to time-crunching, which leads to cutting corners like extra misssions or no Online Co-Op, you get the idea.

Kudos to Ubisoft by not giving in to the annual release trend in order to make their games better (hopefully) :)

Other than the repetition in missions that everyone has pointed out, one other thing that hardly gets mentioned about ac that really needs to be adddressed is the utterly broken combat system.

The sword fights involve absolutely no skill or strategy and are ridiculously easy. You can either just tap x over and over again until your opponent dies, or wait and time a simple one hit counter move thats an instant kill. Also, the ai is the worst i've seen since tenchu z. You can kill a guard, watch as others come to see the body, and just stand there pretending to pray and none of them notice the random guy with huge knives and a sword right there at the scene of the death.. to its credit though, ac is a great looking game, and the controls are pretty slick, but a sequel would require a LOT of work to be worth a buy for me.

It really was a bad game. I played for about 2 hours and never picked it up again.

If they can make the same game without the retarded repetition then it will be worth the wait. Otherwise I'm not holding my breath.

If they fix the problem with repetition, and the combat system it would be worth waiting for. I don't much like Activisions tactics these days. They're trying to play it safe with everything they do. They obviously knew that hype sold a fair amount of copies, but the game got mediocre scores so they don't want to release a game that will obviously sell less, but what about all the people that actually liked the game for what it was? You can't leave that big of a cliff hanger for a game that sold that much unfinished.

considering how assassins creed is somehow in the metalgear universe, since the philosphers of the mgs universe is actually the same ones from the assassins creed universe. So really assassins creed is a really really really long prequel to metal gear solid, aahahah no wonder they have the assassin creed costume in mgs4.
Lets hope kojimma helps ubi this time and make a really awesome game, instead of an ok game.
