Top 10 Games to Make into Films

Games being turned into movies - it's happening a lot these days, and not always when it's a good idea. Next week NZGamer will be covering those bad moves in detail, but this week they thought they wouldd give interested movie companies a helping hand, by hand picking their top ten games that they feel could make good movies. Of course, even with a solid franchise, it's far from a sure bet that the actual movie will turn out to be any good.

1 - IMO, I think they've missed out a game perfect for the big screen translation.
Its' name is Freedom Fighters.

(Also it would be quite a feat to even fit MGS2 into a trilogy)

3 - MGS 2 ? Ethan Hawke as Raiden ?
I love MGS-games, but why pick the weakest of them (and the most confusing). It would also make more sense to start with either MGS1 or perhaps MGS3. I think MGS3 could be cool too see. It will be interesting to see where in the timeline the upcomming movie will be.

God of War, yes please. Diablo would be cool too, but not too much CGI. Half-life, why not.

Sorry but I disagree with you. Part of the beauty of Shadow of the Colossus was sense of loneliness and freedom it gave you.

This would be pretty much impossible to replicate in a film, and if anything spending half of the time watching a horse and rider run across a mysterious land wouldn't make an amazing box office hit.

Bottom line: it can only be done in a game.

I would have to say David Hayter would make a perfect snake cause he is Snake damnit it would be awfull to use a different person Hayter is more than qualifyied to play Snake in a Movie

and Goldberg as Kratos hells no i think Vin Diesel would play a better Kratos hes gotr that voice just like the character

It's obvious that the possible success of a movie really depends on the actors that are in them. If you have a video game being made into the movie and if you've got someone like Tom Cruise or Denzel Washington in the movie, then it's going to be a hit and it will attract people to the movie that are non-video game fanatics of that particular movie being turned into a game.

Gerard Butler would be the perfect guy for Kratos in a God of War movie. His performance in 300 was awesome, and God of War is somewhat similiar to the movie 300, so basically he has already proven himself to be a possible candidate to play as Kratos in a God of War movie... Heck, for all I know, the entire 300 cast should be in a God of War movie!!!

I personally can see Vin Diesel as Kratos. But I heard a while back that there is supposed to be a God of War movie and that Kratos was being played by Djimon Hounsou (black dude from Blod Diamond)!!!???

12 - personally i find most of those movies wouldn't work
the list seems to be full of either very shallow experiences with too much sensationalist nonsense (*cough* mgs *cough*) or they're too bizarre to ever work, like diablo, or the games actually rely on it's gameplay to properly tell the story (bioshock, killing little sisters would never properly convey the emotion as it does in game).

The best games to be made into movies would either need to follow the comic book formula (halo), revolve around trite story plots and real world events(splintercell) or games that revolve around more implicit and deeper storylines (ico).

I think COD4 would work as a black hawk down like film, warcraft would have to be a lot like lord of the rings, splintercell would have to be more of a political thriller etc.

I think Folklore would make a good movie. It could be gone about in a Narnia sort of way. I'm thinking something along the lines of Pan's Labyrinth as well. Like a twisted fairytale type movie.

The title should read: 10 Great Games to make into films that Hollywood will turn into Garbage.

Anyway I would say Uncharted would make a good movie but it's a movie already so no need. Allot of RPG can make a good movie, like final fantasy crisis core or brave story, they have good stories that can be made into a 3 hours movie.
