Bill Gates Promises Windows 7 Will Be Less of a Resource Hog

There are but scarce details pointing the direction in which Microsoft is taking the development of Windows 7, and the operating system, for that matter. Nevertheless, if Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates is to be believed, Windows 7 is going to be less of a resource hog than its predecessor, although such a comparison can only be speculated upon and was not actually stated. On May 7, 2008, one day after the Redmond company dropped Windows XP SP3 via Windows Update and the Download Center, Gates was in Tokyo, Japan, at the Windows Digital Lifestyle Consortium and he
mentioned the fact that there was a focus in making Windows 7 play well with less physical system memory.

The startup time for even a top-end laptop is way too long compared to WinXP. Also a simpler SKU like the Mac OSX would be great too.

Just make it do what an OS is supposed to do...allow me to run my applications. Don't let it stand in the way of this basic functionality, and all should be fine.

3.1 - so
what you are saying is that it should be the next OS X? Unfortunettly for apple, MS is becoming there OS more and more with each OS, and when they perfect it in there own way, it will be the end of apple computers as we know it. I personally love apples computers because they are so stable, but there is no denying MS and there OS. If they come out with an OS that people "love" then it is all over.

"Redmond, Start your photocopiers"

Funny cause so far Bill Gates said he stepped down from MS and is out of the day to day business ...

Windows 7 will be the same pointless resource hog every other Windows version is and was, cause MS is keen on monopolizing everything imaginable with an OS, mediaplayer? MS tries to force people to use WMP, antivirus? they try to get their worthless version stuck in, email? outlook express is a a horrible solution .. especially if you want to keep your mails over a long time .. one tiny bug in the mail file and outlook express DELETES all the mails and uses a "fresh, clean" mailfile. Ditching your 1000+ mails without a warning or question. Whatever you wanna do, MS wants you to use their subpar software attempts. And if you don't feel like it they stuff it down your throat with deep integration into the system. It took several law casess and hundrets of millions in fines to get them to stop replacing YOUR choice of browser and mail program every other day by putting their error ridden IE as default software.

No, Windows7 will be a failure of Vistas proportions. And thats mainly cause Microsoft always has the copyright holders and media companies placed first, and the user placed last in their considerations. Add a feature to spy on the users and make an even more draconic DRM .. up they go and do it, fix some old well known bugs and make the system safe and usable? nahhh, that can wait ..

9 - The problem isn't resource hogging
it's cost. Resource hogging goes away with moores law. Nobody wants to pay the $250 for the OS. The cheaper versions have features stripped out of them making them less than ideal. Microsoft's next OS is just as likely to flop as Vista if the price isn't brought down to $100 for the full feature version.

Windows XP is an old OS so of course it will run alot better than Vista lol. If you have seen the stuff that may come with Windows 7 then I think you would say its pretty cool.

Would not say that OSX is that great tbh.
