2 - True words
"have made some call for a boycott of the titles and others to declare an intention to pirate the game out of spite."
amen personally i wont support any game with this kind of retarded copyrighting. Furthermore this will certainly drive demand for the cracked version to new heights.

If it can be created, it can be cracked. It's upsetting that piracy exists, but I think the solution is to target the Torrent sites, not punish customers who wish to actually own these games legitimately.

Amen. All they are doing is screwing their legitimate costumers while not achieving anything regarding piracy. Good way to keep PC gaming alive...

I agree.
On a happier note, TorrentSpy.com was hit with a $100 million lawsuit from the MPAA. They won't be stealing games or movies ever again.

5.3 - you can`t stop sharing.
btw, piracy - is when you are selling an intellegent property, that doesn`t belong to you.
also, you can`t steal an intellegent property. =)

This over the top protection is killing the PC games wise. I was very much looking forward to Mass Effect but since they are doing a Bioshock I will do what I did when I heard Bioshock had this protection, I simply won't buy it. Now before you all leap on me and go "yeah you will pirate it". I have never pirated PC games, I do not need too and I don't see the point of doing it. I will admit to getting cracked exe's though so I can play the game without the pathetic DRM though. So anyway congratulations EA you just killed Mass Effect and Spore sales on the PC. I would like to make a suggestion next time just don't bother, if you cannot bring a viable product to the PC without crippling it, then really save your money PC gamers are not interested.

Meh. It won't take long for someone to figure out how to make it think that it doesn't need to phone home any more. I'm surprised people still bother to make PC games, considering how much piracy there is.

They @#Q$ up Spore! I'm going to buy the game and throw it in my closet. Then I'll download the cracked version. Hopefully the cracked version will still be able to download new creatures. If not I'm sure a giant torrent would pop up with tons of creatures.

Well its funny when I first heard Spore I thought it was an online game to begin with; a MMO like Asherons Call or World of Warcraft.
Thus, in order to play online you have to have internet access.
Then of course it says "Massively Single Player" which by Wikipedias defintion for this game is that "The game periodically uploads the data made on your PC to a certain server"
So once again; internet access.
So if a person does not have any access whatsoever then Spore isnt for them. And if you have Internet Access what is the big deal on registering a CD Key?
Reading the article, bout the only thing I would be upset on, is activating it 3 times; 3 times to install. Yes that would be bad but I'm sure by then they will resolve it. Probably wouldnt be any different then say an Operating System. You have a key to activate Windows but after a while it locks it up; therefore you have to call the 800# and they will give you a new CD Key. No big deal there. Unless someone really loves doing a fresh install every 3-4 months.
Either way I'm sure I wont win in this heated battle.
I personally think that using these methods; having a CD key to register a game might be the safest route when trying to limit pirating; however I am sure I am wrong because other people has found a way so I'm not gonna argue. Again as my first 3 words 'I personally think' but again that is just conjecture lol
So with the internet I'm sure there is no safe way anymore.
I will say this. Assassins Creed was released on the internet a few weeks prior to release; whole game (or supposedly). I believe hundreds if not thousands of people downloaded that game for the PC weeks before release and you know what they said:
"When I arrive at Jerusalem, I cannot enter, why?"
Reason: It wasnt the full game, I believe some file was missing to complete the game, thus people had to wait for the true release day for people to install it properly.
Several of my friends do the same, download a program, use some CD Key Generator and voila they just saved 300 dollars on a program; they dont have the box, they dont have the receipt and they dont have an instruction booklet.
However I'm the opposite. I believe I practically read all the fine "terms and conditions" because if I have a legit copy and it doesnt state it anywhere in those Ts and Cs then by golly (lol) they better help me with my product.
When I dont have a receipt when I dont have proof that my copy is legit then why on earth should I even try to get tech support.
Thats like (no offense to people just a complete example); stealing a credit card from a customer at your workplace and using that credit card at your store. Or if you're a customer you steal an item from a certain store, then a day later you return it to the same store and try and get credit. ROFL!!!

13 - Autofail
Copy protection is an autofail. Its like shooting yourself in the face to prevent acne. It doesn't work. It's provened that it doesn't work, the hackers are just too smart and will figure it out in days.

14 - I wonder...
...what EA would do if this game sells ~1.5 mil but only 250k ever activates it? Because IF im going to buy this game, which is doubtful, i will be playing a cracked version and never even open up my box...

15 - Ironic
So let me get this straight. Being in the military I might play one of these games before a deployment. Get deployed, do a year without my desktop, cancel my internet because why the hell am I going to pay for internet that I'm not using for a year. Then come home, activate internet again after being gone a year and find out I can't play a game I legitly bought because the stupid privacy invasion program didn't detect an online connection for over 20 days?
So that would automatically make my paid for game pirated?
Point 2: I like to upgrade PC's or sell off the old one and buy the latest and greatest. So I can only load the game 3 times? What ever happen to you buy it you own it?
Heaven forbid I buy a game play it for a few months, put it away for a few more months. Buy a new computer, reinstall game play for a few more months. Repeat process 1 more time then Boom! HD craps the bed. Need a new HD, oh but wait...I used up my 3 tries and got deployed for a year. Sh!t out of luck....I don't pirate but this kind of crap may lead me to it.

the only people b!tching are the noob torrent pirates and its their own fault the honest gamers have to deal with this.....the only thing i dont like is the 3 install thing because i format all the time but i sure don't mind a cdkey check every time i log onto a game, i deal with it every time i load a multi player game like BF2.

17 - Things Change!!!
Press Release:
"Honestly people make too many fast decisions that they never wait the final verdicts. They just announced that EA/BioWare will not have that re authentication every 10 days. Looks like you are still limited to installing it up to 3 times but at least you will not have to use the internet to activate/nor re activate every few days."
