360 and PS3 Battlefield Heroes unlikely - Microsoft certification process and Xbox LIVE billing system cited as reasons

Videogamer reports that A Xbox 360 version of upcoming free PC shooter Battlefield Heroes is unlikely because of Microsoft's control over Xbox 360 LIVE, according to developer DICE.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at an EA Games label event in London today, Ben Cousins, executive producer at DICE Studios, said that he didn't believe there would be any point in porting it to the PS3 or Xbox 360 because "Everyone's who's got a 360 or PS3 also will have a PC that can run this game".

Battlefield Heroes, set for a closed, invitation-only beta on May 6, will be a completely free, 250MB download. The game will make money through the sale of customisation options, like new clothes, and through advertising on its website.

3.1 - It has nothing to do with PS3 or PSN of BF Heroes
The person that wrote the article just added PS3 because the dev said that everyone who has a PS3 or 360 has a PC that can run this game.

Yep. Crappy story, blaming Microsoft as usual. How would xbl effect psn? Indeed. Really objective journalism *wink*
Anyway, someone already basically made this excact game for the 360.....The Outfit.

If you don't have a PC that can run this game, then it's time to upgrade.

If you can't run this game, then your computer must be as old as the PS2.

My PC was last upgraded to play FFXI. Other then that i don't care about upgrades. Yes it is almost as old as my PS2 and just like the PS2 my PC still works fine.

8 - How does XBL prevent a PS3 version
Well, if they're going to spend the money to dev. a console version, they're going to want to release it on both. The games selling point is that it's basically free, but because M$ is greedy and they charge ppl to play on their inferior P2P networking this presents a problem.

Although I would think they could bring this game to the Wii, apparently it has "incredibely low system specs".

Too bad its not coming to PS3, kinda lookin foward to this one as an alternative to TF. I was really dissapointed with the new TF, it was such a departure from the old one. They don't even give you nades! And the levels aren't wide open like they used to be...

If they can't do an XBOX Live version you won't get a PSN version as they won't want to upset fans just before the release of their premium title Battlefield: Bad Company and potentially have sales hurt by angry fans boycotting the game. Sadly I think Microsoft's draconian control over XBOX Live stops us getting a lot of content on PSN free that developers used to give away free on PC versions like new maps etc. They figure if they charge on XBL they can charge on PSN or indeed must charge on PSN so as not to upset fans on XBL.

I don't agree that people who have a 360 or PS3 will have a PC fast enough to run this game and besides who wants to sit at their PC and play if there is a console version they can play on their large screen TV in the comfort of their sofa.
