No pause option for Dead Space?

CVG writes:

"In space no one will hear you pause, take a few deep breaths and revive yourself, before continuing. Or at least that's an option EA's dev team is looking at for its upcoming survival horror game, Dead Space.

We've all done it, or at least been comforted by the fact that if the rabid dogs in Resident Evil got a little too much, you could hit pause, calmly cycle through your inventory and ram a few health packs down your throat. You're now able to take a few more bites to the leg before seeing the You Died message. Well done you."

To be honest, it's highly impractical. Say you needed the toilet, needed a half an hour break or just a cup of tea. While pausing may break the mood, I’d get highly frustrated if it’s not there.

1.3 - I think you're talking about Activision...
Yeah... EA is like ten times more innovative than they are.

Let's think of Activisions new games:

COD5: Back to world war 2 with a horrible developer that ruined the third game.

Guitar Hero 4: Really? You're still trying? GH3 was crap compared to Rock Band, isn't it time to give up and stop giving awful devlopers good games?

Spiderman 4: More crap.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 11: After Proving Ground I think this series is a joke.

Now let's look at EA's recent games:

Skate
Fight Night 3
Command and Conquer 3
Tiberium
Crysis
Rock Band
Burnout Paradise
Dead Space
Mass Effect
Mercenaries 2

Those aren't even all of them, but compared to Activision they are the most creative people on the planet. Activision hates consumers. They hate you.

Theyll probably have places u can hide (like a cupboard or bathtub or sumthin) so u can take a sh1t while youre character is hiding

1.5 - well
they can make it so you are only allowed to pause when you are not near an enemy. Like, you can pause if your character is alone in a locked room, or, alone in any room. Just like in hero movies: **CLOVERFIELD SPOILER KIND OF** in cloverfield, the heros "pause" when they are in the subway station, in the small locked room with the soda machine. This could easily be done in games, and i believe would be a great idea for EAs new title.

You will be able to pause the game. You just wont be able to cycle through any of the menus while pause (ala FF VII).

I hope they make it optional but make this option completely pause less so there is no stop and escape in middle of scary parts.

I hope they go thru with this.. it sounds like a great idea to me..

If only this game had online co-op as well.. this would be a MUST but.. more people need to get on the ball with the co-op in their games..

survival horror would have the best ever if done right

Don't be such wimps! I've never paused during scary parts (like in Fatal Frame 2). Instead, I made sure to play all the way through, so I can fully appreciate the scares. >:)

I think it does add an atmospheric nature to the game, but it may end up frustrating if the real-time inventory navigation is clunky.

Its about time.. That should really had to the intensity..and frustration which alot of games lack now a days.. I mean how intense and frustrating was it in Old school games .. YOu die back the very begining.. It put much more pressure on you not to screw up.. In a scary game like this.. can you imagine 15 straight mins of intense scaryness just to die and then start from the begining agian.. Its one of those things you would HATE to LOVE.. I know it isnt close but.. Running for my Life in twisted metal when all the lifes are taken and your down to red.. That intenseness and the lil tingle it gives me (like climbing the rope in gym class) has been missing from games lately (or at least single player games).. Too Shay EA Too SHay

Yes, but that tingle of adrenaline was 90% of the time followed by instense anger, overwhelming frustration and swearing. I hate when a developer decides to make their game harder by just removing checkpoints. It is NOT fun. Games like the ones you are talking about cause more damage to gaming equipment than the RROD, mainly due to keyboards and controllers being smashed to pieces in fits of anger.

You could just pause the game by pressing the PS button or the equivelent button on the Xbox controller though.

That doesn't pause every game. Some games happily speed along regardless of your pressing the PS or 360 button.

Is this saying there is no pause menu at all or just when you're trying to heal or access your inventory? If it's just pausing then wouldn't hitting the PS button or the Xbox equivalent pause?

If it's only from the healing side of view that time doesn't stop when you access your inventory then it's a cool idea. It's not the first game in that you have to find a safe place to heal but it may well be the first survival horror to do so. It's been ages since I played a Silent hill so can't rightly remmember for sure.

Steel-battalion had no pause option either. But gamers found out fast you could unplug the controller and stop the game for as long as you wanted to. I bet you can still hit the center dashboard button on 360 the controller and stop the game.

I wish I got a chance to play Steel Battalion with the giant controller. I wish Armored Core would embrace the same concept. Or better yet, Remote Control Dandy

If steel-battalion was mech bliss then steel-battlion line of contact was a mech porno in gaming heaven. Line of contact was the first game you could record, replay, save, and share game videos. Yes halo 3 is not the first. And it was the first game I have played where you can custom paint your VT (vertical tank) and sell it online in an auction. Yes again forza 3 was not the first for that either.

Sounds awesome. Japan has a few arcade games like Gundam that play in the same fashion: huge controller peripherals, booth vessels that react to what's happening in the game, individual customization and ownership.

I'm a big fan of Armored Core (check out Armored Core For Answer coming out next month), and R.A.D./Remote Control Dandy

I won't buy it if you can't pause.

That is just silly. I am not one of these WOW players that is willing to sit around in a pile of my own sh*t because I don't have a life and can't get up for 5 mins to use the toilet.
