EA To Release New Orange Box Games As Separate PC Titles

During Electronic Arts' financial conference call today, company execs stated that they plan to release all of the new games in Valve's Orange Box collection (Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal) as separate retail games for the PC. The three games will ship to stores for the PC sometime before the end of March; no prices for the games were announced. Of course, Steam owners can already pay and download those three games as separate products.

It is quite pointless, in my opinion.

1.1 - good idea
its basic economics and its the best decision. they should have done that since the beginning.

If the price is right i ll probably get ep1 & ep2.
i already played HL2 and im not interested in teamFort & portal.

You should really give portal a try - it is widely regarded as one of the best, if not one of the shortest, titles of the year.

umm maybe but i until it comes at a *very* reasonable price considering its shortness then i might :)

(PSN download or smthg)

the way i see it, it has no replay value... since u know how to solve it.

Not really sure how this will boost sales, other than taking up more shelf space and increasing visibility, but oh well.

HL2 and HL2 Ep1 already have retail boxes. The other three games don't.

No point in buying them separately for $20 a pop. Even if you already have some of the games in the OB, you can just give them to a friend as a gift.

Portal and Team Fortress 2 are the only reasons I even like The Orange Box.

I am just interested to know how Episode three is delivered for consoles when it is finally ready (god know when that will be).

A standalone download is possible but I would much prefer it if Valve released another bumper disc consisting of something like portal 2, Episode 3, a collection of the best HL2 mods and maybe the re-skinned version of Half life that was made with the HL2 engine.

No matter how it is released I will be getting it but it would be great if Valve pulled another great package out of their ass.
