World Wide Web Consortium releases draft of HTML 5

The World Wide Web Consortium has published a public draft of the first major upgrade to HTML in over a decade.

Released on Tuesday, the first working draft for HTML 5 is a result of work carried out by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) HTML Working Group, which brings developers, browser vendors, and content providers together.

In its final form by 2010, HTML 5 is intended to bring the markup language forward into today's richer Internet environments, with new application programming interfaces to control audio and 2D video content.

As a professional Web Designer I have this to say: HTML 5 FTL!! XHTML 2 FTW!!!! XHTML 2 is going more in the right direction - there are a few cool ideas in the HTML 5 draft, but they could easily be incorporated into XHTML 2 where the inverse isn't really true.

dude....xhtml 2 is ded, and also dangerous since most web apps written in html4/xhtml1 will fail if the doctype is changed to xhtml2...i'll stick with the safari, opera and mozilla guys (members of the WHATWG)...maybe you should check out the html5 draft that these guys came up long time ago....so as i said i'll stick with these guys cuz so far they are the ones fighting the most for web standards

wow....the w3c finally released a draft for html5....wait didn't the WHATWG had a working draft since god know how long....i hate the w3c, they are sooo slow and the direction that they are taking it's bad...
BTW...XHTML is overrated, and not XHTML 2 is worrying since it seems that it won't be backward compatible with anything (html or xhtml 1)...so hopefully people will not jump on the xhtml wagon like they did in 1999, i mean how much fun is to write xhtml serve it as html, therefore creating invalid html....the irony...(surprisingly most of these people don't know that xhtml can't be served as a xml app since most browsers...coughIEcough...don' t support it)...
