Dead Space 2 'more action than horror'

CVG: Dead Space 2 will feature less horror and more action that its predecessor, according to developer Visceral Games.

The studio - whose Dante's Inferno hits UK stores on Friday - said it has a dedicated team working on DS2 and that the new game would "empower" players.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't do that ... plz don't do that..

More horror then action plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't go Re5 on me now :(

Well i guess i wont by this game then...

TheDudeAbides5195d ago

DS was pretty much a horror game in the first 2-3 chapters, after that it wasn't scary anymore for me at least.
I doubt they can keep the horror pace through whole game.

snaz275195d ago

couldnt agree more, dead soace was such a welcome suprise and defo in my top 5 if not top 3 games this gen! they go down the more action route then its a no buy from me too! i mean the first had planty of action anyway! you think they wanna increase sales by reducing the age rating or something? such a shame! what other horror games we had this gen? the only decent franchise and they ruin it already! i wish they would do a project zero ps3 game! man id be all over that, loved those games!

Venatus-Deus5195d ago (Edited 5195d ago )

the 1st was my 3rd fav game this gen.

No Horror... NO BUY!

EDIT:

@ TheDudeAbides

Nothing can maintain being scary for 10-12 hours because the surroundings become too familiar. What DS did brilliantly was maintain scenarios that had people on the edge of their seats. Even in the later chapters the player has heighten levels of readiness going through doors and around corners. You don’t actually have to experience fear for the game to continue working.

And don’t get me started on the Sound! DS should have been awarded Oscars for its use.

LOL… Dead Space fan boy right here!

Nihilism5195d ago

*puts fist through monitor*

EA, you suck.

-

From the guy who bought Dead Space, Mirrors Edge and a lot of EA published games in recent times.

DARK WITNESS5195d ago

@ Venatus-Deus

totally agree with you. Dead Space was actually my favorite new IP this gen and it was my personal game of the year for 2008 above gears 2 and resistance 2.

it's a shame they have gone down this path.

they could have dominated the horror scene, but by doing this they will now have to compete with all the other action games out there.

I am really sad at the thought of this, I suppose it was too good to be true.

Guido5195d ago

RE went the way of action and it now sucks arse. Too bad they are now doing the same thing to Dead Space. It was awesome being scary and now it is ruined with more action.

Chris3995195d ago

For how to ruin a franchise.

The guys at Visceral must have missed the memo.

Baka-akaB5195d ago (Edited 5195d ago )

Dont forget that some of the people responsible for the first dead Space went away to activision .

That should have been a first clue things would be the same . That and the decision to do Dante's inferno .

And EA most likely want it to sell far more than DS1 , hence the action and co-op idea.

Of course then , when or if they fail again to sell as much as they want (as if 1.5 million unit for a new horror ip was a failure , but hey that's EA's greed for you , along with people deciding that 1 million isnt a lot anymore , based on max 5-8 games selling in the range of 5 each year)

bacon135195d ago

OH C'MON! The horror elements of DS1 were great. This is a classic case of dollar signs winning out over fan service. More horror than action or GTFO!

raztad5195d ago

I knew EA was about to ruin DS just to get casuals on board. I wish them well. I dont need another TPS. Time for replaying the original.

dragunrising5195d ago

I'm not all concerned with this news... I've played through the game 5 times and am desensitized to the horror aspect of it. I can't wait for the sequel! Day one purchase.

fossilfern5195d ago (Edited 5195d ago )

OOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFGGGGGGGGGGGGGG G !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY THE F**K!!!!!!

Here Visceral Games remember what happend to RE ? yeah your heading down that path you stupid twats

lovestospoodge5195d ago

who the hell would ever be like
"DS 1 was just way to scary for me"

ffs

CaptainKratos5195d ago

FAAAK!!! i liked it more then the resident evil 4 and 5!!! cuz of the horror!!! man this sucks.

ThanatosDMC5195d ago (Edited 5195d ago )

What happened to the original devs who loved the idea of scaring the balls off players?

Maybe it's because they're adding co-op? I bet there's a way to make it scary even with co-op.

AntoineDcoolette5195d ago

"We're more focused on the action than the horror this time. We're more empowering to the player. We've got a lot of feature innovation and we feel comfortable because we have something with resonance and we have something that's so capable."

He didn't say more action than horror >_> He just said more focused!... As in they possibly want more intense action moments compared to the first game. Never once was it mentioned that DS2 will be more action than horror. Hey, I'm trying to be optimistic here. -.-

BlackTar1875195d ago

My uncle was the floor manager for the developers at EA and helped make most of the guns in the game and he left and took a bunch of the dead space team to Namco. He loves when i tell him how much Dead Space kicked ass because it was his final game at EA. I doubt he's spiteful but ill tell him how they seem to be ruining it now and that will probably piss him off.

ChineseDemocracy5195d ago

Okay. well, i guess that solidifies my decision in not purchasing this game.

Gen0ne5195d ago (Edited 5195d ago )

Aww man, you blew it EA. You blew it. Couldn't resist the the call of the RE5 band wagon could you? Well, chalk that up as the 1st major disappointment of 2010 for me. I'll buy it used just to spite them. Hopes and dreams dashed guys. Excellent work.

Edit: Ok, that was my knee jerk reaction. After reading some of the other less emotional and more rational posts here, I do understand why the felt the need to go this route. That would be money. Gotta pay the bills. But, that doesn't mean I have to like it, cause I don't.

RE5, in SPAAAAAACE!!! *ugh*

Nikuma5195d ago

Gdamnit.

This game just fell off my radar for now... who knows if it'll make it back on.

THUNDERMARE5194d ago

I'm second in on that, what the hell??? is surviving horror genre now not involving horror anymore??!?!

Meryl5195d ago

nooo why WHYYYYYYYYY
I was starting to think of dead space as the new RE.

redsquad5195d ago

And this franchise may have been nobbled just out the starting gates!
First one: Great reviews and popular with the public... What do they do? Change it!

BeaArthur5195d ago

Yeah, if you are too scared to play it go back to Pokemon green (or whatever color they are on). If it ain't broke don't fix it.

OneShotThrill5195d ago

They just wanna rake in more sales

EA Shoots Down Dead Space 2 Remake Rumors: 'No Validity to This Story'

EA has shut down rumors that EA Motive considered a Dead Space 2 remake before shelving it due to low sales of the previous game, saying there's "no validity" to the reports.

XiNatsuDragnel15d ago

Sure.... right.... at least remake dead space 3 w/o microtransactions bs.

XiNatsuDragnel13d ago

I sometimes I wished I didn't Ngl lol

Knightofelemia14d ago

Why not remake DS2 whether shot down or not it's still my favorite game next to DS1. As much as I hate EA I would buy or would have bought DS2 day one.

MeteorPanda14d ago

No validity XD "Guys guys, we cant possible make a good game or cater to the gamers wants, stop"

Yi-Long14d ago

I don't know if sales met their expectations or not. I just know that the high review scores received my attention so I was interested in buying it, but its price stayed high (50+ bucks) for so long that I simply never bothered picking it up.

Tacoboto14d ago

Doesn't pay full price
Doesn't pay *any* price
Ponders if sales met expectations regarding an allegedly canceled sequel.

Gee...

Yi-Long13d ago

Well, for starters, I'm sure there are plenty of games I never bought which did, somehow, still, meet their sales-expectations.

Concerning Dead Space; I never played and thus cared for the original. It's in multiple genres (shooter, sci-fi, horror) I don't particularly care about so it was barely on my radar pre-launch. I was never its target-audience.

When reviews hit, and it was scoring big, it gathered my interest, so while it wasn't in my field of interest, it mrans that I wanted to give it a fair shot and at least give it a try, as I do with many games across different genres; I tend to just cherry-pick the good stuff and see if it's for me or not.

But, I do wait for sales on those games I take a risk on.

Kornholic13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

Lol, you are a huge part of the problem. If a very high-quality game is not even worth 50 bucks to you, then what is?

13 Years Later, Dead Space 2 Is Still A Perfect Video Game

Nameer from eXputer: "Dead Space 2 is a sequel that delivers such a feast that by the time you're done, you're not only full but also satisfied."

Aaroncls734d ago

It was amazing. All 3 DS games game solid for me, but 2 was special.

hombreacabado34d ago

i can do without ds3 but the first two are solid.

mariopasta34d ago

Hope they remake this one too. Just like they did with number 1. The remake of Dead Space 1 was perfection

Terry_B34d ago

thanks to the digital pass for it it was not perfect..in fact its difficult to find a working copy since many years.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled137d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa137d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno136d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac136d ago (Edited 136d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast136d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial136d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!
